Official May 17th Alaska Cruise Thread!

Congratulations to those who are celebrating something special on this cruise. I wonder if it is too much trouble to ask if those celebrations be recorded on the "master" FE list? I would love to acknowledge your accomplishments!:cheer2:

I can do that, the DISers who responded back with a celebration (completing masters degree, birthday, etc) will need to respond back with who is celebrating the event. Thanks!

Nick, thank you for keeping our information straight! Today, after learning that our stateroom's verandah had the solid white wall, we asked our TA to make a change, and she did. Our cabin number has changed to 6118. :cloud9:

We are sailing to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary, and Steve specifically asked to have a verandah so we could sit on it and enjoy the scenery. I am so thankful we were able to change!

I'm so excited we have more people to participate in our FE...is there a cut off date? Just wanted to know so I can start getting to work on our gifts...there's a whole thread of great ideas..

Yes, there should be a cut off date for the FE. It gives everyone an official final count and time to finish up FE gifts before they take off. Everyone has different departure times from their respective cities, some will leave sooner than others. By setting a date, it will make sure everyone has sufficient time to complete their FE gifts.

What does everyone think of May 1st by 11:59:59 EST? That allows 16 days to complete all FE gifts. Too soon or too late? Your opinions, please!

You're welcome, Liane!

Just an FYI... after we have our final list set, I will create a spreadsheet of all staterooms and post it as a PDF file for download.
That way you can easily print it and use it when passing out your FE gifts. :cool1:

Just received our documents. So excitied. Our cabin #1070. Please add this to our names on the FE list.

Thanks from Martha and David. Can't wait to meet all of you.

While doing some research online for the cruise, I came across a book that is just awesome. I ordered it from Amazon and just received it yesterday (in 3 days by normal shipping). The name of the book is "The Alaska Cruise Handbook. A Mile-by-Mile Guide" by Joe Upton. It includes a 22"x34" illustrated map, with easy to use navigation system for following the ship's progress (all words from the cover). It was printed in 2007, this one is 2008 edition, it has 286 pages, tons of beautiful colored pictures and information I have not seen anywhere else. New it is about $13 but I got a used one (looks in perfect condition to me) for $6.82!!! I don't think you will be disappointed if you get one.

Nick, when did you request the servers you wanted? When you booked or when you got on the ship?

Hello All,

We have been on the Magic twice and this will be our first cruise on the Wonder. Does anyone know, Is their major difference between the two ships. I think the restaurant Lumiere's is replaced by Triton. Otherwise I do not know of any differences.

Thank you

I believe it was about two weeks before our cruise.
I've read somewhere they do dining assignments a week before.

Just call DCL and request the server by name (and country helps as well).
We had requested Jayson/Adriana as we heard they were a great team.
Our first night after arriving at our table, we were ecstatic to see them! :cool1:

There are some stylistic differences. The bow of the Disney Magic has Sorcerer Mickey; the bow of the Disney Wonder has Steamboat Willie. The stern of the Disney Magic has Goofy painting, while Donald Duck and his nephew Huey are painting the stern of the Disney Wonder. The interior of the Disney Magic is art deco, characterized by slender forms, straight lines and a sleekness that expresses modern technology. The interior of the Disney Wonder is art nouveau, characterized by an "art from nature" feel, with whimsical, swirling wave designs. And the statues in each lobby are different: Helmsman Mickey in the Disney Magic and Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid in the Disney Wonder.

The Magic has Beat Street and the Wonder has Route 66. The Wonder also has Outlook Cafe.

Thank you so much. My 5 year old wants to show his aunt, her first trip, around the ship so we were curious.

Wow only four more Mondays till we all leave for the cruise, that is if you leave on Monday if not then it is 5. We are getting excited and have the packing itch although I am trying my very best to ignore it. Can't wait to meet everyone. I hope that we get more kids for the FE it is always fun for them.

Besides the theming (art deco or nuvo) I don't think the magic has the expanded quiet cove bar. They expanded to the second floor on the wonder. Moved the tween area to deck 2. The adult areas are basically the same with different names and decor. Same thing though. They even rearranged the Cadillac lounge to match sessions with the piano in the back. On has funnel vision (magic) one has aerial vision but are the same thing. Believe it or not they charge different prices for wifi though.

Anyone think of anything else?

OK everyone for those that wanted to do shirts you should have gotten an email tonight with the finished Mickey pirates heads and the image of the Wonder.

@DisneyBasket

I need you the names that you want on the heads.

For those that want to do shirts please PM me with the first names of your family and an email address that I can send to finished images to.

Also if anyone has an iPhone let me know and I can send you a copy of the Disney Dream ringtones, all 6 horns. I was going to give them out as a one of the FE gifts but figured you could enjoying now pirate:

I got my cruise docs today in the mail, so excited. I did notice that in the cruise docs it shows that we dock on sunday in Ketchikan at 12:10 not 10:30. I am glad we have no excursions that day till 2:30 so we can still do a little shopping and looking around.

Thanks for the shirt photos, can't wait to make it.

It seems like most of you are spending the night in Vancouver. We're flying into Seattle and are spending the night in Seattle before taking Amtrak to Vancouver on Tuesday morning.

Do you think that will be an issue? The train leaves around 7am and arrives before noon.
