OFFICIAL JULY 2009 THREAD!!! The wait is on!!!

All this talk about Car-ma!! Scares me! Lois had practically brand new cars and they went bad! We own a Chevy truck that is just over 100k and I plan another 10 years for it. My van that we're driving to Disney is a 2001. I have fixed that darned Chevy so many times (and we've had so many Chevys) they should give me a permanent fast pass at Test Track.

My van has a VHS tape player in it. But its ok. I have 105 kids VHS videos... probably more than 1/3rd of them Disney. I get to drive to Disney estimating the amount of gas in my tank because GM can't figure out how to fix the gas indicator. They replaced the sending unit twice. Its more like a spending unit now. But I REFUSE to get a new vehicle just cause the Obama admin. wants me to!! There's been talk of forcing people to retire their old gas guzzling trucks!! NO WAY!! Besides, last time we exited Test Track, we went into the new car showroom they have there. We looked at a Traverse. It was tempting... but it doesn't really get better gas mileage than my van (1 mpg) and it carries the same number of people. If I buy a new vehicle I want it to do something better than what I have. I wasn't feeling the GM Love.. and now with the taxpayers owning it... I'm NOT feelin' the love. You'll see my old silver van clunking down 95 with my DVC bumper sticker and Stitch magnet on the side, and my UMD Va tags... that'll be me!

Funny story.(but it wasnt funny at the time).. last time we drove to Disney, DS kept blowing fuses with the inverted that he had plugged his Playstation 2 into. So we stop in this McD's parking lot to see if we could figure out which fuse it was. So DH opens up the hood, and finds a fuse box. He randomly grabs a fuse and pulls it out.... and drops it into the engine!! We spent a good amount of time trying to retrieve it. Then it turns out, the fuse box that the correct fuse was in, was INSIDE the van.. not in the engine. So then, he finds an extra fuse, and puts it in where he dropped fuse went, and it turns out that was the fuse he needed to fix what had blown. So then we had to find a auto parts store. Luckily, the McD's we were in, had a Sears on the other side of the mall from us. We went in, bought a whole box of fuses and were on our way. This time, we're bringing all kinds of fuses, a tire repair kit, and anything else we can fit. We once blew a headlight at 9:00pm on Christmas eve in the middle of nowhere on the way to MD from TX. Luckily there was a Walmart in sight that had the right headlight in stock!!

Oh, by the way, I investigated that Its A Small World music box today. The one that started playing all by itself while I was showing DH my purchases for Disney... well.. its is STILL broken. I could NOT get it to play. It just played so loud and clear on its own that time.. But it still won't work. That is extra spooky! but it a good way.

I now have an ADR for Hollywood & Vine Fantasmic Package July 20 3:30PM. I cancelled our ADR for Tony's Town Square at 6:30PM.

I was also able to make a reservation at the Pirates League for my son and daughter. They are going to love it!! I am getting so excited.

Still waiting on my Mickey Mail though!

Fantasmic is a great way to start your trip! Are you on the meal plan? Buffet's are great on the meal plan but not so much for paying cash. I think the price for kids is high at buffet's, so if you're on the meal plan.. extra value.

Is anyone else bringing their laptops to Disney? We get free high speed internet at the DVC villas, so wooo hoo.... can stay in touch with our July people! Do other resorts have internet?

The Mason family will also be starting our trip on the 20th, with dinner and Hollywood and Vine for the Fantasmic Package! We'll be there at 5:30, though!

Well we did it. We now have not one but two new cars. The cars are much better than what we had. One car is silver with 15 miles and the other a red with 2500 miles. We got both with payments at just 66 dollars more than we were currently paying. We can handle an additional 66.00 per month. The goal is to pay even more and try to pay down the debt. But Disney keeps getting in the way.

I think we will be happy we made the move at this time. Got to get to cleaning the house since I spent the day buying two cars Lois

Congrats to both of you! That's not a bad deal at all. You both got two new cars that are both a step up from what you had and all for only $66 more? That's great!

Just got back from a day at Six Flags Great Adventure!! It was fun, but it was NOT disney!! I took a picture with Robin (of Batman and Robin) and then he asked me what time it was. Can you imagine Aladdin asking you the time? Then we past by, who I assume was the Riddler and some cat woman (not Catwoman, she was in some sort of tan leapard outfit) and they were BSing about people they work with or whatever. You would NEVER see anyone break character at Disney!! The bathrooms were disgusting, we had to pay $25 for a "Flash Pass" and we waited 30 mins on the entrance line, which were so poorly organized, people were just squeezing in around us. Oh AND, my, almost 1 year old, niece came with and she wasn't allowed to ride ANYTHING because she can't walk yet, which apparently is a requirment. I mean, even the carousel, which, if she could walk or not, my sister was going to hold her up on the horse. Oh well....

Ewe...what a horrible experience for you. After reading this, I found myself appreciating Disney even more!

We usually bring our laptop just in case DH needs to log into the office. However, we do NOT get free high speed at the ASMuFS. I think that we had to pay for it last time.

Nikki - I totally agree! We have to keep in touch! I have a whole new circle of friends that actually understands me! I don't know if we'll go back next year or not. DH says he wants to alternate 1 vaca at Disney with 1 on a beach you have to have a 4WD to get to??? I hope this trip changes his mind!

2 weeks from now I'll be trying to get my gang up so we can make it to Tusker at 8 am!

I believe there is Wi-Fi around the Disney resorts (I know YC is in the lobby & Storm-along-bay) .. and it's $10 per hour, i think??

DBF has an iTouch but I am going to encourage him NOT to go online while we're on vacation... however I much luv the DIS, facebook etc ... i like to be completely surrounded by the Disney 'bubble' when I'm in WDW, with no internet!!

Had dinner at DBF's parents house last night and we're are all getting sooo unbelievably excited about the vacation now! we've made a pact to still have a fantastic time if DN can't come .. but we're all keeping our fingers crossed that her Mom comes to her senses and lets the little princess go to WDW!!!

Fantasmic is a great way to start your trip! Are you on the meal plan? Buffet's are great on the meal plan but not so much for paying cash. I think the price for kids is high at buffet's, so if you're on the meal plan.. extra value.

We will have our laptop, which reminds me I need to sit it up to plug my camera in to, along with our external hard drive. Staying at POR so we have to pay for our internet, can't remember if it is $7 or $9 for a 24 hour period.

I agree with you. I would hate to give up my truck. I laughed reading your stories, I know they weren't funny at the time. We were moving from MD to TX one time and my alternator started going out just south of Little Rock. I was driving our Saturn and the DH was driving our truck pulling a trailer. So, it was 100 degrees out and I had everything turned off and the windows down. Stopped at one stop sign and looked at my dog who was so hot hanging out the window and thought "He's going to fall out!" Just as I reached for him, yup, he fell out. We had walkie talkie's to communicate with each other so I started screaming and crying "the dog fell out, the dog fell out!" I opened my door to jump out and get him thinking he would get run over. Nope, he was standing at my door with this look on his face "I fell out of the car, let me in!" He was fine, a little cut on his jaw. The DH had finally pulled over and when I caught up to him, he just yelled at me to get out of the car before realizing why I was so upset. The car finally died right there in an abandoned parking lot. We finally got help and got out of there, but it will be the move we always remember.

About Harry Potter. We plan on seeing it the 16th. We will be leaving Universal and moving over to POR. The DSD didn't want to do Disneyworld, so we will eat dinner and then go see Harry Potter. She gets on the airplane home the next day. I wonder how early I should order tickets? Anyone else going?

Do not worry even the cars that we traded in did not go bad. They had 70,000 miles on them were out of warrenty and were going to begin to need regular work done like brakes. They had been and still were very good cars. That is why we bought the same make just a different model!!!

We wanted four door cars and now seemed to be a good time to do this. I was willing to go to 300.00 per car and one is at 313.00 per month the other right at 300.00, In order to do this the loan is longer than I perfer but that is because we still owed on our older cars. So we need to back off of Disney and work on paying some extra on the carsso the next time we trade them in they will be paid off.

We are bringing the laptop but only to download pictures from the memory cards. That way I can take as many pictures as I want and not worry. We have an Olympus 770SW and two older Kodak. The kids will use the Kodaks and I of couse will have my olympus which I love. It is waterproof so I do not need to worry about the rain when it happens.

We are at 10 days!!! It is so close I can't stand it!! Lois

FYI, fellow July DIS-ers, Harry Potter tickets at the AMC Pleasure Island are now on sale. There is a midnight showing on the 14th (well, technically the 15th, I suppose) and it opens with regular screenings on the 15th. We're going to the noon show on the 15th. Can't bring myself to do the midnight show this time around.

Oh I am soooo excited for this movie!!! Luckily, they changed the opening date from the 17th to the 15th or else I'd be seeing it after my rehearsal dinner the night before my wedding!! I can't believe tickets are already on sale on PI. That means it's sooo soon!!!

Due to us going to Kennedy Space Center to see the launch on the 11th, we also decided to cancel AKV for that night and spend an additional night at CSR instead. It'll be too much of a hassle to have to pack, check out and check in somewhere else and still make it to the Cape at a decent time, plus we won't get to enjoy the AKL the way we intended to. It's easier and cheaper to stay at CSR.

BUT... the big question: to book room only or to add a night to our package, including DDP for 3 when there's only 2 of us at that point? Any advice is appreciated!

So I finally, finally, finally got my ME vouchers and luggage tags!!! I'm so excited. I called again last week and they had originally mailed them 6/2. I never received them, so they sent out another set. I don't feel so left out now
