OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

Wasn't someone throwing around the suggestion that it was a Three Cabelleros theme? I don't know who it was or how they said they knew but I thought I read that somewhere.:confused3

I was sort of surprised to see them have their own float in the Soundsational parade in DL.

I'm glad I'm not the only one surprised by that. I didn't think they were THAT popular but maybe since they were added to the Mexico in Epcot and IASW in DL, they're making a comeback. :confused3

Maybe they were just trying to find a way to give Donald more attention?

Well, seeing as this is an anniversary year for the half and Donald is the mascot, for lack of a better word, of the half it would make sense to somehow feature him in the 5k. The race is also at Epcot and since the Three Cabelleros are featured in an attraction there it wouldn't be out of place.

As Todd mentioned though, the 5k theme is announced in advance but usually closer to race weekend. I think their rationale is that the theme of the 5k isn't all that important as far as getting people to register. I don't think someone would register just because of the theme or not register just because of it.

Did u run the VA Beach this weekend too? What a great time!

I wish I did, did you do this one?? I had a lot of friends running in it and they had a great time, but my next race is the Richmond half marathon

I did however take advantage of the cheaper price for the WDW marathon at the expo :thumbsup2

Oddly enough, my DBF is one of those rare few who would register based on theme. We did the DL half and when he saw that the 5K was Star Tours themed he was extremely disappointed I hadn't signed him up for that. He then wanted to do the 5K in Jan but knowing that it probably won't be Star Tours, he's less inclined. :confused3 Fickle fickle.

If I'd have known...I had an extra 5K from a friend who was unable to make it. :guilty:

You should! I'm thinking of doing the DC Rock n Roll this spring after the Disney marathon.

Thanks!!

Thanks! It's the Rock n Roll Competitor Series that holds the event. They hold races across the country (Vegas, DC, Philly, etc) and they have bands along the course. No huge names along the course, but some were kids in local bands which was very cute! They also did a concert series that weekend, bands along the VA Beach boardwalk. The big groups after the race were Tonic and Bret Michaels (yes THE Bret Michaels!).

I highly recommend!

I'm enjoying everyone's hydration stories. I need to start figuring out what to eat, when. I have to start trying out some of the gels and stuff.

sounds like fun.

4 months from today the 1/2 marathon will be history and the full marathon will be underway!

If I'd have known...I had an extra 5K from a friend who was unable to make it. :guilty:

Damn, I wish I had had a way to contact the boards. We didn't have a way of checking/posting and he didn't know the theme (t-shirt and medallion) till we got there. Live and learn I guess. :guilty:

I did! My father in law and I did it. The expo and the race were excellent... very well put together, such a great time!

Good luck in the Richmond Half! You'll have to report back on how it goes!

Im going to order everything from room service that involves cheese!:thumbsup2

I was thinking more along the lines of all the unhealthy park food I'm going to have to forgo for a couple days like Giant cinnamon rolls on main street, chicken fingers (I don't know why I love them so much more at Disney than anywhere else,) and Dole whips (those are kind of healthy right? They're fruit flavored...) After running 39.3 miles and walking around the parks for a week after that, I think I'll be able to justifiably eat a few treats without feeling too guilty.

You guys crack me up!! :rotfl: I just want to be able to move after the Goofy! The Marathon was not the most fun this year for me, so adding an additional 13.1 miles is going to be pushing the limits...but all those foods are starting to work as motivation to train enough so that I can get them in the parks after finishing the race! I am hungry now. popcorn:: I have never had the giant cinnamon rolls or the chicken fingers! I will still run away from parades though...even if I can barely run! ;)

I wasn't planning on running Goofy but since my life schedule changed I'm definitely considering it. I'm trying to recruit someone locally to come along so they can pace me for the 1/2 and I can run on my own terms for the full. There's at least one local DIS-er who I've been in contact with so I might coordinate some training runs with him. Four months of training should be sufficient. I need to renew my passport as well.

I want to celebrate by drinking around the world.

That sounds a great way to celebrate.:)
I definitely run to eat and will be having some great park snacks when the Goofy is over.

Me too, not sure if I said on tghis thread, I lost 8 stone years ago and on my list of things to do ( it was a long list after being so fat for years) was to run a marathon, now Im terrified to stop incase I get fat again.
