Disney has a new authorization form that will need to be completed by you. The form appoints your friend as the authorized party to pick up your package. So they will have to have an original signature authorization form , the original signed waiver, a copy of your ID and your friend will also need to show ID.

Per a note I received from Disney Running, on what is needed for someone to pick up your packet:

1) Your signed Race Number Pick-up Form/Waiver (to be available in early December)
2) A letter from you giving a specific person permission to pick up your packet
3) A copy of your photo ID (preferably a driver's license)
4) Their photo ID (preferably a driver's license)

Alright, it's my turn to have a question for the experts... what to do about DRASTICALLY changing my shoes at this point?

I've run in the Nike Pegasus for about 2 years, now. This includes training for the Goofy last year - no problems, no injury, no pain. Before that it was the Nike Max Moto, and the Asics Nimbus... these are all very neutral shoes and the Nikes are particularly soft. I was fitted for them at a running store and the employee even made the comment, "wow, you don't pronate at all!" Around month 5 of my pregnancy (while training for a half marathon), I started having arch pain in my left foot. I figured it was just all part of running while pregnant and sucked it up. This arch pain has been getting worse over the last few months, after taking 2.5 months off running while VERY pregnant and after delivery, and it finally dawned on me over the weekend that it was probably my shoes.

I went into Road Runner Sports and did the barefoot running test on the treadmill... and it wasn't pretty. I now pronate severely in my left foot and my arch has dropped significantly. The guy who was helping me at the store (and who was AWESOME!) said that I could even wear a motion control shoe on that foot, but it would be too much for my right foot. Anyway, I tried a few stability plus shoes and we did the treadmill test a few more times before finding a winner. I went from the Pegasus (one of the softest shoes out there) to the Mizuno Alchemy (a very firm shoe that sacrifices cushioning for stability). I also did buy the heat-molded custom insoles, hoping they'll help with my sagging arches.

So, can I just put on the new shoes and go back to training, or am I going to need a break-in period? I've been wearing very cushioned shoes for years and now I'm going to a very stiff shoe. It's pretty late in the game, but my problems were just getting worse in the wrong shoes. Help, please?

It's not the best situation to change everything about the shoe with 20 something days left but it is not the worst hinge either...

I do not remember if you are running goofy or the full. If goofy is highly recommend your old shoes on Saturday and the new ones on Sunday

Most new shoes really do not require a huge break in today. I would take them out for a couple short runs and then an intermediate run. I would save a long run until marathon day. What you are trying to do is overwork the smaller stabilizer muscle and develop a muscle issue. You should be looking for 10 or so miles inn the new ride then race day.

Post race a great spend of funds would be with a personal trainer who has a corrective exercise specialty they may be able to help work the legs back to where they were....

Anyone getting worried that we may have a repeat weather situation from last year? Yikes - it has been so cold in Atlanta for two weeks now, when it had been such a mild winter. I am hoping that the mild temperatures come back before the race! :worship:

oy, oy -- my worst fear! I'm freezing in South Alabama!!

I'm more worried about having temperatures on the opposite extreme. Cold = good; heat = bad. :)

Ok, so I have mine - 25960. Any guesses about where that will put me?

In the race!! Ok maybe 2nd corral ish.

No worries here. As we covered on a different thread it is kind of inevitable. Cold is better than hot; cool better than warm The finish line better than the start!

New to the boards! this is my second marathon. I ran hartford on 2008 and also did the disney half that year.

I'm going with happy thoughts: its going to be GREAT weather.;)

planning to bring warm items i can toss on the course and a contractor garbage bag to wear in case of precipitation. I can take quite a bit of cold but you never know. i've been told that taping your forefoot of your sneaks with duct tape can keep out the water..though not good for ventilation, but i'll take dry and hot over wet and freezing.

My family is vacationing at WDW during the marathon week...
I'm not that worried about race day, I just want my vacation to
be nice and warm :sad2:

Thanks for the advice, coach! I'm not expecting the shoes to need much of a break in, but I was wondering if I would experience a "break in period" where I have impact issues, because I've gone from lots of cushioning to almost none in a short period... But not doing a long run in the shoes until race day should help with that... at the very least, if I'm going to injure something, it'll be during the race instead of beforehand!

I took the shoes out for a very short run (2 miles) last night, because the instructions on the custom insoles stated to start very small at first... they felt pretty good, so I'm feeling better about the whole thing.

Sarah_Rose: Just a random comment, I'm on my 5th pair of Mizuno Alchemys over the last 2500 or so miles run. Needless to say they do wonders for me, and I used to have a lot of medial shin splint and stress fracture issues.

Glad to here that, Matt! I'm a bit nervous about going from such a soft shoe to the Alchemy, but obviously the soft shoe is not doing me any favors right now! It's more the transition that I'm concerned about than the actual shoe, KWIM? It was amazing to watch the progression of my pronation, though, as we tried out different shoes with the filmed treadmill test! It was like watching a car crash in reverse. :lmao:

Count me in on the Mizuno Wave Alchemy wagon. I'll be buying my 2nd pair in Orlando as the price difference between US stores and Canadian stores is close to $80 for a pair of shoes. I've logged close to 300 miles, so it's about that time for a new pair anyway.

Another Mizuno Alchemy wearer. I wear them for my long runs and the Nirvana for my short runs.

Bad news on the injury front. I went for my last really long run yesterday. I had decided to do 20, because of my previous achilles pain. I was fine for 2 miles and then, my ankle felt twingy, if you know what I mean. At mile 3, I felt a real pain and there was no more running for me. Luckily, my hubby was home and was able to come and get me.

I came home and started called all the sports doctors in the area. No one can get me in before the race. No one!

I'm icing again and using Aleve. I'm massaging. What else can I do at home to get me through this race? I looked at some taping videos. Will that help on race day?

Oh-no :(

In lieu of a sports doc, you could try going to a regular family doctor. They should be able to tell you if you've got a sprain and order imaging for you if necessary.

You could also try going to a physio or chiro who have experience with sports injury. They might be able to "patch" your ankle up enough to get you running for January. When I had ankle pain back in March, my chiro did ART and acupuncture on it. He also gave me some strengthen exercises but (here's the part you don't want to hear)... the main thing that's going to get it better is rest.

My chiro said my sprain was a grade 1 so as far as taping went, all he did was have me get a roll of sports tape from the drugstore and use one piece from outside ankle bone to inside ankle bone. And that was just to make me aware of my ankle position - to keep it straight. Compression socks will do the same thing and I've also used three pieces of tape when I started running again - I crossed two pieces from ankle bone to ankle bone and the one around leg.

But before you go taping or getting compression socks... go to a regular doctor, physio or chiro who can better assess the situation. You have my email so if you have questions, I can forward to my practitioners let me know pixiedust:
