OFFICIAL Jan 2011 Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Dopey or Goofy Challenge Thread

Good luck, or should I say Congrats by the time you read this, on the 10K. I love the cabbage freebee. That has got to be one of the more unique things I've heard about at races!

Thanks kim, though if you think the cabbage is funny, DH did a 9K in the summer and got a trout :rotfl2:

BTW on the showing issue, I'm in the shower before group (and after, obviously) ;)

I always shower also. It's just part of my wake up routine, so why wouldn't I? I also will have to have enough time to eat and visit the necessary room (as Charles so delicately put it). ;)

Belle: You will have to explain the cabbage. Why? If it was St. Patricks Day I might understand it, but even then, it's weird! :lmao:

Beth: I have 2 rest days going and I want to run! I don't enjoy my "days off". I'm going to take it easy today and take a zumba class tomorrow. I'm still trying to make my calves feel better, so I guess it's needed rest, but I still don't like it! ;)

Yeah, this week marked the "official" start of my Half training...and I had to start it with three days off because I pushed to do a 10K (to get a time to submit) with 2 weeks' notice and my IT bands weren't too happy with me, making my knees ache a lot. Oy! And of course, NOW I find one the first Sunday in December. I'll probably do that anyway as that's roughly the distance of my long run that week. Maybe I'll improve my time!

I was going batty not being able to run or even do exercise walking. Even knowing the third day was technically a scheduled rest day anyway. Blah. BUT it was worth it...I just stretched and played on my foam roller and things felt all better.

Belle ~ Congrats on the 10K time! That's awesome!!!

DH and I will be doing our first 1/2 marathon in January and we are VERY excited! This is a great thread with excellent information- I just finished reading all 29 pages.

Thanks for all the great advice!

Just catching up on my reading.

Belle, congrats on the 10K

I ran my first 6 mi run today in 67 mins, I was so excited. Then I realized that hey, I could actually do a 10K now so I'm on the hunt for one to do before the half in January, hoping for one in November.

I'm new to the Marathon; so excited to run in the most magical place on earth! Bringing hubs; my 2 girls and my Mom. Mom has never seen Disney; I don't know who is more excited-her or my girls to eat breakfast in the castle. I'm so glad to see all the great info on this thread; keep it coming!

Well, now that all the fall halves are out of the way it is time to concentrate on getting ready for the full in January. Today was a LR of 12 miles. You know the marathon is getting close when the long runs includes stops at the mailbox for GU and water.

Hey, I still have my half coming up (next weekend) and there are at least three more halfs in my area. Plus I have friends running in San Francisco and Washington DC in the next couple of weeks.

Sidebar: Firedancer how on earth did you get your dancer to look like just a little bit tinkerbell??? I didn't know there were others in the world like me- I should send you a pic of my DMB posters next to my disney maps; or my DMB mermaid tour shirt I picked up this summer. If you have Tshirts I would buy one ...just sayin.

I guess I should have said all of my fall halves.

I had no idea it did look like Tingerbell. I just used Photoshop to make the image and then did a vertical motion blur on the Firedancer layer.

Next year will be strange with no tour.

I'm curious about the free entry on Monday, the 10th. I read that you need to bring ID and your finishers medal to the ticket window to get your ticket. I'm wondering though if I could get my ticket and then, give it away? I don't need it because we always do park hoppers, but, maybe someone else could benefit from my running. Do you think it'll be a no-no or not?

Hi everyone! I just submitted my paperwork for my Team in Training recommitment. I'm doing the full this time! I don't know if I'll finish, but I'm definitely going to start!

I bet you will do great!! :) The only odd realization I had with jumping to the full is that the half seemed nearly impossible initially and now suddenly it looks so much easier! The added support you will get from the coaches and fellow runners will push you through!! :cheer2:

If they do the marathon entry the same way they did the GAD vouchers then no. I had to have my finger scanned when picking up the ticket and then that scan had to match when I used the ticket to enter the park. I would imagine Disney would do it the same with these.

I figured as much. I was just going to give it to a stranger anyway, so no biggie. I was also just going to get one day less of parkhopper, but it only saved us $5, and, it's not worth that to have to stay in the same park all day (at least not to my husband), so I guess I just won't get it. Of course, I'm still going to be wearing my bling all day! ;)

What's the free ticket thing? Is it only for running the full or do you get one for the half ?? Can anyone give post a link to details???? Thanks!

Just finished my first ever half marathon this weekend en route to the WDW full in January. Finished strong with a 1:52 time and a day later my legs are feeling fine. Hope I can keep it up!

Keep going everyone!

Congratulations. Sub 2 hour for a first half is a really good time.

And I too miss Horizons. My first trip down was in 1991 and it instantly became my favorite ride. It was closed while we were back in 1995 and the next time I went after that was 2003 so it was long gone.
