Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

Hi everyone,

Long time disboarder, but first time to this thread. Wish I would have found this sooner! Just curious if anyone has any tips for a newbie. Can't seem to find a lot of info about night races in particular.

This is my 2nd Disney race. My advice, have fun! I ran the Royal Family 5k in Feb and was so worried about being swept, I didn't stop for pictures since the lines were long.

2nd piece of advice: don't try anything new on race night. Wear the same clothes, socks, shoes, etc. Whatever you are used to.

I can't give hints for night races, I haven't tried running at night around here. We have skunks and fox around so I will find out how I like them in 3 days.

Good Luck!!

leaving tomorrow!!! so ready for this trip!! so sorry that so many of you are dealing with illnesses and injuries!! hope you all recover and are in tip top shape for the race! had to laugh about the side trip to McD for McFlurry's duriong the race....sounds like a plan!!

someone posted this tip last year before the Wine and Dine and i thought it was great.....pack baby wipes or a wet rag in your bag to check. you can atleast wipe off when you change your clothes. it really did help me not feel so grimy!!

i have no costume.....so bummed!! I just couldn't find anything that i liked, and I spent $60 on the Sparkle Skirt during the summer, then got DD one to match it for the Color Run we ran...just didnt; want to spend any mroe. BUT>.....if I find something cool at the expo i'm so getting it!! i really liked the Raw Threads shirts that glow in the dark, but i didn't see anything that would match my pink swirly skirt!!

See you at the starting line!!

Leaving tomorrow night...getting in late.

Officially in my usual packing paraylsis. I need a support group.

Safe run everyone! Can't wait for the ToT and my personal favorite, the signs people hold up along the way!

Have a great trip to all that are going!

So excited - we fly out early, early Friday morning, and I'm basically all packed! Don't know how I'm going to focus on work tomorrow...

Have a safe trip and a great race everyone...we fly in late Friday night. See you at the start line!

Good luck all you TOT runners. It would be great if you would post about the Expo and the race. It will be fun hearing about the runDisney merchandise, and hopefully there will be some cool shirts to buy. Keep us posted! and most of all have a great trip and race! pixiedust:

I love that under the events section of my Facebook it has the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10 Miler Weekend listed under tomorrow!

I depart after work today and arrive early Friday morning. I don't like those flights but I wanted to get to WDW in time to pick up my runners packet and for a tour I have planned on Friday afternoon.

Thanks so much! I'm worried about being swept, so thanks for the advice.

I don't know if I'm excited or nervous!!! My wife and I finished our costumes on Tuesday and we'll soon be on our way...

I can check in for my flight in less than 2 hours. We leave tomorrow just before noon and should be at the expo by mid-afternoon. We're staying at BWV.

Anyone else already getting the pre-race jitters?
YES!!! ::yes:: I've been up multiple times a night feeling anxious and, though I haven't had any race nightmares exactly, I keep having anxiety-ridden dreams about other stuff. This is the l o n g e s t week ever.

I will be the Witch Dr from Princess and the Frog.
Cool, cool, cool! :thumbsup2

Welcome! My only night race experience was the Expedition Everest Challenge. In addition to what's been said, my tips are:
~ Stay off your feet that day, as much as possible!
~Don't slack off on pre-hydrating in the hours before the race.
~ It's much harder to see dips/bumps in the pavement and random stuff (bushes, posts, etc.) along the sides of pathways in the dark. Be aware and slow down some as necessary. I may or may not have collided with the arm of a stray bench.

i have no costume.....so bummed!!
Me, neither - you won't be alone!

Everyone's leaving before me, NOT FAIR!!!! :)
I won't get there until late morning Saturday! :(

Good luck all you TOT runners. It would be great if you would post about the Expo and the race.
:thumbsup2 I, for one, promise a full recap in my blog, post-race!

Did my final short run last night... pain free again!!! :cool1: Nothing to do now but finish packing and wait...

Wishing everyone leaving before me (which I'm pretty sure is EVERYONE, lol!) safe travels and a fun trip! See you at the race

Fyi to all those not down here yet...it is HOT and humid! It was actually really nice earlier in the week but it keeps getting hotter!

Hee hee - "hot" is relative: I was so happy to go out to my car at 5pm yesterday and find it "cool" enough to not be drenched in sweat over the 30 feet I walked from office to vehicle... I'm downright chilled after sunset these days! ;) (I'm about an hour and a half west of WDW)

YUP!!!!

Got out at 6:35AM today for my 10K. final walk at 10:04mpm average so things looking good for Saturday. The temp. was 79F and humidity 83%. Going up to 90's and supposed to be like that for awhile.

Everybody better make doubly sure to stay hydrated beginning today because it could be very brutal Saturday night. The sun will have the roads nice and warm so we could have a very limited cool down.

Safe travels to all. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Well after a day off yesterday, I am feeling much better! Still a linger cough, but I can breathe, which is the important thing! Going to do a quick 2 milish test run for my outfit tonight, and then get to Pilates since it's been over a week and I am having withdrawals! I don't leave until Saturday morning since I am in driving distance. Super jealous of those of you getting there early!

Good luck to everyone running! I won't be doing it this year (W&D this year, hopefully the ToT next year). I am excited for you all!
