Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

Very slow run/walker here. Thank goodness I'm in corral C or I would be in worse trouble. I've been dealing with a recovering stress fracture and major shin splints and arch problems. I'm doing 30/30 and I barely maintain the 16mm and haven't gone past 5 miles in training due to pain. Finishing for me would be a dream but I'm not counting in it. I'm just going to go out there and do my best. If I get swept at mile 3 so be it. I'll just hit the party and have fun!!! :cheer2:

PS-is anyone wearing a non-Disney costume?

Is anyone else having trouble with the igiftbag website? When click the link i get an error saying the link/site doesn't exist.

What's in the gift bag?

Have to admit I was underwhelmed! On the other hand, I always felt badly about throwing away all of the paper in the goody bag, so from that angle I think it's a good thing. Just wish there was something a little more interesting in it!

I also noticed that spectators with a Villains Bash Ticket won't be admitted until 10:00. Does that mean we can't take our family members with us on the bus? Or is it just the finish line that is restricted until 10:00? My "chEAR Squad" Mom is 81 years old and I don't want her to have to stand out at the gates for 2 hours! :scared1:

Your mom can go with you on the bus and stay with you until the start of the race, there's an area for spectators at the start line, then she can go into DHS.
I also was underwhelmed with the igift bag, but wasn't expecting much.

Did anyone else not get the iGift bag? I didn't... checked spam folder and everything. I wonder why:confused3

I haven't received any emails for this race either. :sad1: I wonder if it has anything to do with how I signed up (over the phone while making resort reservations). Oh well, at least I know I'm registered since I have a bib number!:rotfl:

Thank you so much! That makes both of us feel much better :cheer2:

Same here for the DH and I. We're pretty slow as well and will be doing 30/30 and also starting in Corral C! Maybe we'll see you there. Look out for a short redhead with a silver sparkle headband in a black shirt, black shorts and a silver sparkle skirt. Not sure just yet what the hubby's wearing, but he's dark headed and tall!

Add me to the list of those who can't get there iGoody bag to open! I tried from my phone and my desktop and neither would work!

I'm run/walking too. I did the Royal Family 5k in Feb and there were many people who walked the whole thing, even some who were walking faster than I was jogging.

Did you notice in the Goody bag there is an offer from the photography people to get $50 for $30 ecard? I emailed to ask a few questions, but that seems like a good deal. I plan to buy two, one for TOT and one for the Princess in Feb.:thumbsup2

I was interested in the egift card too...seemed like a good idea since I've been meaning to buy my Tinker Bell Half pics anyway...but I couldn't really get it to work. I clicked where it said "purchase", but then it takes you to a screen to choose what year your race was, then what race it was, then you search for your pics...So you just end up in your gallery of pics, not an egiftcard purchase??? I don't understand. I'm gonna keep trying though and maybe give them a call if I have to because it's a decent deal. Did you try purchasing?

Neither have I, other than the registration confirmation and receipt from Active right after I registered...luckily my BF is running this one too and he's gotten all of them. I think there's alot of runners that end up not getting the emails, but I don't know why. For me, the pattern seems to be every other Disney race I do...one race I'll get them, next race I won't, etc...all using the same exact email address. Makes no sense. :confused3

I'm wondering, though, if I will be alone in doing some walking? Are there a fair number of walkers at these events or will I be all alone?
Not even remotely alone! My experience with Disney races has been that there are lots and lots and LOTS of run-walkers and all-walkers. :thumbsup2 As you've already seen from posters before me, plenty of us right here are included in that. I normally run-walk the entirety of long runs, but I'll likely be walking a whole lot more than usual, thanks to nursing an angry IT band. You'll have plenty of company and I'm quite sure that if you can run a full 5 miles, you absolutely can run/walk 10! :cool1:

I got my email, too! And I remain unimpressed with runDisney's "gift" bags. :rolleyes2

I clicked on the TOT 2012 link and it took me to a page to buy the Ecard. I haven't bought it yet. I'm waiting to be sure I can use it on the CD, since the fine print says it is not good on other discounts. Actually, I need to check the math and prices before I buy. They sent me a 20% discount code for the Royal Family several months after the event since I had not ordered. I used it on the CD and ordered all of the photos since they had myself and my running buddy in them. I will LYK what I find out when they email me back. If I will save some money, I will buy two of the ecards I think.

Also, the Goody bag link in the Final Instructions email is not working this morning, but it was working last night. :confused3

Only 6 more training runs to go, folks! And after Saturday's 8, only 5 more and they will all be SHORT!! So happy!!!! Of course right after TOT I'm jumping right into half training as I have my very first half on December 1. So I still have a ways to go. But, thinking in terms of what's left for TOT helps me to mentally break it up and I'm still sooooo happy!!!

Well that's strange...I wonder why it just took me to my photo Gallery? I can't get the page to open up today either now. This is why they should have just stuck to the physical goody bags! :badpc::furious::badpc:

You could easily walk from Boardwalk to the start line. They want all the runners to meet at the parking lot of DHS so it's about a 15min easy walk from BW

My DW and I were talking about this last night, and because we wanted to verify that this is possible (the walkway from the Boardwalk won't be blocked off, or anything), I called the RunDisney folks. Walking from the Boardwalk will be fine. The walkway will be open.

Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else had the same concern or question.

What Would DIS-Runners Do?!

My goal is to tackle 8 or more miles this weekend. I know I can finish that, but I need to do so without compromising my IT band stuff. So the dilemma facing me is how to do the 8+ miles...

My first thought is to break it into manageable little chunks that minimize running time, but stretch the run intervals across the entire distance: intervals of walk a 1/4 mile (about 16:00/mi pace), run-walk a 1/4 (about 12:00/mi pace). Over 8 miles, I'll have run-walk only 4 with solid stretches of walking between. Overall avg pace should come to about 14:00/mile.

OR...

Given that the pain's been setting in at 3miles, I could divide it into thirds: walk 1/3 mile, run-walk 1/3, walk 1/3, etc. Overall avg pace about 14:40/mile.

I'll say that running slower does NOT help; in fact, it makes it worse. So I'm also planning to drop back to :30/:30 or :45/:30 run-walk intervals in which I can run at a faster speed during the run portions.

Any thoughts on either approach or suggestions for something else altogether? I'm going for my first run in 5 days tonight and will drop to the shorter intervals for a 30-min session, so I hope that sheds some light, too.

Meanwhile, my new shoes were delivered an hour ago and are awaiting me at home, and my Team Sparkle skirt should join them any minute! I also found a pair of C9 compression shorts to wear under the skirt on my lunch break, as my old pair wasn't comfortable. Here's hoping my good shopping juju carries over to good running juju! :wizard:
