Official Hurricane Frances Thread - Part II

My son just came in here to day good morning. He saw a picture of the hurricane on the computer (he is 5) and asked what a hurricane was. I told him what it was and that we might not get to go to FL on the cruise this weekend and that maybe we will go next weekend. His eyes lit up and he said "That is okay Mommy, that storm looks to scary. We don't want to get hurt. We can go next week." Then he asked "Mommy, are you sad?" I said I was sad for the people in FL and that some people will get hurt. He then gave me his Woody doll (from Toy Story) and said "this will make you feel better- I love you". I though he would be upset and would have a difficult time understanding. Kids can really surprise you. I have a great kid.

it is not only the passengers and port stuff that needs to be relocated, i think the biggest problem would be to supply food and all the stuff that needs to get on board right in time ..

So i think Disney would do best in cancelling this weekends cruises to risk no harm to anyone involved in the cruise business.

By the way the Tom Joyner Family Reunion has been cancelled, as well !!

HURRICANE FRANCES DISCUSSION NUMBER 34

Summary:
REPEATING THE 8 AM AST POSITION...23.2 N... 73.5 W. OVEMENT
TOWARD...WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 13 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...145 MPH.
THE FORECAST TRACK CALLS FOR LANDFALL IN SOUTHEAST OR EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA IN JUST OVER 48 HR. HOWEVER...PEOPLE SHOULD NOT FOCUS TOO CLOSELY ON THE EXACT TRACK...AS SMALL CHANGES IN DIRECTION COULD MAKE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE LANDFALL LOCATION.

It's still a YIKES.

Frances has quit listening to our pleas to turn.

Our prayers are with those in Florida and the Bahamas and all others impacted by this storm.

I have to correct myself. It was NOT local 6, It was WESH 2 that stayed on the air thru Charlie, even when the hurricane was moving directly over the station. They have a lot of fixed remote cams all over the area that they use mostly to cover traffic. They also did live remotes, and went to a live webcast the evening Charlie hit. They are part of the Orlandoweather site, that's what jogged it for me. Keep an eye on either place; they'll put up a link when they're going to go to live coverage. http://www.wesh.com/index.html

i guess they need to know what kind of damage is at the ports before we can actually leave

Heavens to Betsy CM_Mom! Did you get ANY sleep??

I know I tossed and turned all night and here I am back on the boards at 5:41am PST.

Yes, it appears Frances is still a very big YIKES.

We are scheduled to arrive in Florida a week from today on a red-eye from Los Angeles for our 9/9 Wonder cruise.

Here is the official word from Port Canaveral on operations:

HEY Y'ALL....

Let's don't hope that Frances turns northeast too much...that's going to put her right here where I am.....

If it does turn and comes this way....we have no place to go. All the hotel rooms are booked, our Orlando house is out of the question because of the storm, so I guess we'd have to sleep in our car!!!!! We would not go to a shelter because of our dogs..and we would definitely not leave them.

Let's just hope that whatever happens there is not too much loss of life and that property damage is as minimal as possible.

Just my 2 cents.......
Phyllis

Guys, I realize that you are all disappointed about your cruises, but Florida is not the place to be right now. The hotels are booked, the schools are closing, the stores don't have bread, water, and supplies left, and thing are crazy. People who live here are desparately trying to figure out what to do and where to go. ?The major roadways are packed. The size of this storm is unbelievable. There are way too many projections out there to really know which end is up. If the high pressure builds, it's probably going to hit Miami and come straight through Naples where I live and it it weakens it will move northward. The news doesn't know where to tell people to go. My cousin in Jupiter doesn't know if they should come here, or if the storm is coming through here. His son in law who is a sheriff in Palm Beach County bought 2 plane tickets and is flying his wife and son up to Boston for the duration of the storm.
This is very, very serious and I would honestly rethink coming to Florida and worrying about your cruise. People are getting very cranky and nerves are frayed. Remember, quite a few of us already went through this exactly 3 weeks ago. They had a sheriff at the grocery store this morning to make sure that things went smoothly and I can tell you , shopping was not a great experience. August in Florida without electricity and AC SUCKS! I got to experience this after Charley and I"m dreading the thought of going through that again.

Just my thoughts, please don't shoot me for having them, but I'm pretty much a basket case today.

Carolyn - I absolutely agree with you. Yes, none of us wants to have our vacations ruined, but let's get real, folks! The ones we should be concerned about are the folks in Florida who are getting a double whammy this year!

Please, let's keep our Florida friends in our prayers, and don't forget to send some $$$ help to your favorite disaster relief fund!

Blessings - Lin

Hang in there Carolyn, we here on the east coast of Florida are also in a state of near panick. Store are running out of everything. I feel for the store clerks who are there to help us and not being able to go home and prepare. It has been a yoyo ride. On news has the storm right over Melbourne (where I am at) and another has it through Palm Beach. Don't know who to believe anymore... Talked to relatives in WPB and their news is forecasting a direct hit on WPB, talking to relatives in Miami, their local news is forecasting a direct hit to Miami, just like Andrew. No matter where this thing goes it will be huge, and most of Florida affected. Unfortunately there is no forecast taking it back out to sea!!!:(

Turn Frances, Turn!!!

I'm nervous, we live in Orlando and are also booked on the 9/4 sailing of our first Disney cruise. I'm worried about our home, our relatives who live nearby, and worried about our first vacation in quite a while. I think I would be more relieved to just cancel and ride out the hurricane in my own home.

Your mailbox is full, so please forgive me for posting this here:

I'm not sure what arrangements Disney will make for its CMs, but in the event your daughter doesn't know where to go, she is more than welcome to weather out the storm with us. We're about 30 miles inland from Canaveral and while not in safe zone, much safer than being by the port.

So please, please let me know if she needs anything!

Marcy

We were just at the DCL website and they now have a pop-up that no official announcement will be made until 1:00pm

Had just gotten off the phone with them, since we are flying out today but the only change they said was made so far is that we will be going to CC on Sunday.
