Official 'how to get from point A to point B while at WDW' thread.

If I am not mistaken I can park for free at Downtown Disney, take the bus to a resort and than monorail to anywhere in the kingdom? I can't find a good site to list bus times ie how often they run and how long the trip takes. The one OLP WDW Transportation Wizard doesn't have times and was reported to be inaccurate. (I can find time of the first, last buses to/from parks, downtown but nothing about in between)

I am planning to stay near the park. My hotel offers shuttles but only 4 times in am and 4 times in Pm. I am not sure how that will work for our plans each day so I was planning to drive everyone to downtown disney, park for free, and than take disney transportation into the parks each day. Alternately my hotel is less than 2 miles from Downtown: Is Hotel Plaza BLVD and Buena Vista drive to Downtown safe to walk along?

Is it a hassle to get from downtown to the parks? (Plan to go to each one on different days) It looked like AK might be a pain to get to.

Sorry, but is because of people like you who abuse the system that mess it up for us vacationers who genuinely want to visit DTD and use the bus system.

I am staying offsite and my hotel's shuttle drops you off at MK TTC and so I will be relying on Disney's complimentary shuttles, park-park are easy enough but for me to get to DTD, I have to take two buses, one of them to a resort I am not familiar with, thus taking up AT LEAST two hours of my day getting to there and back to catch my hotel shuttle... so thanks for that. Typical that others have things ruined for them by people abusing the system and thinking they're so fantastic for doing so.

Two questions:

1. Can I take a bus to/from Downtown Disney to Typhoon Lagoon? I'm thinking of heading to DD for dinner after TL (and on another day heading to DD for an early lunch from POFQ, then TL until close). I know it's super close, but it might put me over the edge after a long day of climbing stairs :rotfl:

2. Do you think it would be easier to take a taxi after Pirates & Pals Cruise (Contemporary Resort) -- and how much do you estimate it would cost to POFQ? I'm not opposed to walking back to MK and taking the bus, but if it would be way easier to take a cab, I'm not opposed.

Thanks!

Before 11 a.m., almost every bus leaving TL is going to DTD. Between 11 a.m. and around 12:30 p.m., you should be able to find a bus from TL to DTD, if you wait at the bus stops close to the water park entrance and watch for a bus with DTD on its marquee. After about 12:30, you won't likely find a direct bus from TL to DTD, but you can get on a bus to a nearby resort such as SSR or OKW and ride thru the resort; the bus will return to DTD after the resort. That trip takes about 30 minutes.

After 11 a.m., almost every bus leaving DTD stops at TL. Before 11 a.m., bus service out of DTD is limited, and there are Transportation cm's standing at the Marketplace bus depot to assist Guests. If you speak to one of those cm's (in an orange safety vest), they will get you on a bus to TL within 20 minutes or so.

This answer really helps a lot - I will plan on an early lunch at DTD, then take the bus over to TL - It will be a lot more complicated the other way

Disney doesn't much care if people head to DTD to use buses to resorts. When people decide to use up close to 2 hrs of their time, in order to save $15 for parking, it's their choice. It doesn't change anything for the rest of us. It's an issue only for those silly enough to use DTD as a way to get to parks from off-site resorts.:thumbsup2

Is there a direct bus? Thank you!

There was a test being run, last fall, that allowed guests to go from AK to DTD, directly. BUT...it wasn't available until after 3pm. The test has ended....we have no idea if it will ever be back again.

I have a question about taking a Disney bus from the WL to DTD. Looking at the map it looks like there are 2 bus stops... one at either end. Is that correct? Do the resort busses stop and pickup from both?

There are 3 bus depots at DTD:

  1. Marketplace
  2. Pleasure Island (at Planet Hollywood)
  3. West Side (at Cirque du Soleil)
Disney buses use both the Marketplace & PI depots. The West Side depot is used only by Lynx (public transit) and a few outside hotels.

Disney buses stop at MktPl only before 11 a.m., at both MktPl & PI from 11 a.m. until midnight, and at PI only from midnight to 2 a.m.

This will change at some time in the future as the Disney Springs construction zone expands to encompass the PI bus depot (probably later this year.) I don't think the plan is in place yet as to where the buses will stop at that time.

What's the fastest way to travel
from Magic Kingdom
to International Gateway - Epcot
at roughly 12 noon on a weekday?
(Which resort stop is closest? Bus? Monorail? Boat?)

THANKS!!:goodvibes

A bus to YC/BC is going to be your best bet. Get off at the BC, and then walk to IG....about a 5 min walk.
You can take the BW bus as well.....walk is about 8 mins from BW. Whichever bus comes first.

Ok...we need to move past the whole parking at DTD issue. It has been addressed. Period. Everyone is welcome to park there, free. If they are stupid enough to spend up to two hours getting to a park in order to save $15, so be it. It isn't ruining it for anyone. Not to mention that while DTD is under construction, parking is a nightmare to begin with. We are done with this topic.

On the first page, someone asked a near-identical question to what I'm going to ask;

(IF) I land a ressie for 'Ohana at 7:30AM, is the best way to get there from AoA to hit the MK bus at 6:30AM, pop on the monorail and get off at Poly?

Yes, using disney transportation, that would be the best way.

For an ADR that early, I would take a cab.

Thanks! I thought the Boardwalk Resort was closer - guess not! Sounds any of the three are "close enough" though. THANK YOU!

If you decide to take the bus, be sure to tell the driver you are going to Poly for breakfast. Many buses leaving MK in the early a.m. stop at CR & Poly on the way out, or the driver may offer to drop you off if you're the only ones on the bus. Travel time by bus from MK to Poly via CR is about the same as the Resort Monorail, but you would save the walk to the monorail station and the wait for the train.

Personally, I'd take a cab.

In March I have a 3:30 pm reservation at TRex and am planning on spending the morning at Animal Kingdom. What time should I leave AK and what is the best way to get to DTD?

I am staying at POR, so I thought at first it might make sense to go back to POR or POFQ and take the boat. Is that the best way?

Okay, second question?

How would I get from AoA to OKW for a 7:30AM ressie?

...thinking about taking an Olivia's breakfast instead and not fret over Ohana as much as I am.
