Official "Heroes" discussion thread - Caution: Speculation and Potential Spoilers

I am going to give this a try. DH and I like these type of shows, so hopefully it will be good.

On the BG and Sci-Fi note, we both really miss it! When Sci-Fi went to digital, we lost it as one of our basic channels. We are still contmeplating if it is worth paying $30 a month for, when right now our cable is free. (part of rent/association)

I posted this on UKWILDCATS thread before I saw this thread......so I'll post here as well.

We have a very personal interest in the show as my DD18 is very good friends with Hayden Panetierre who plays Claire on the show. They have been good friends for years and we are very excited for the series to air. Hayden has been in a ton of things to date and was the voice of Princess Dot in "A Bug Life" way back when..

Here is a link to her IMDB page to see all the stuff she has been in....

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0659363/

And here is a link to the Heroes website....

http://heroes.nbc.com/

So, we are very anxious to see the show tonight and wish Hayden, the cast and the show all the success they deserve!!! GOOD LUCK HAYDEN!!!

Another comic nerd chiming in here. In fact DH saw the commerical for the X-Men 3 DVD last night and turned to me and asked "do we really need to own that?"...The look of horror I shot him was enough to let him know we indeed DID. "It HAS 3 alternative endings!" I insisted. What more reason could I need?

Anywho, we too have "Heroes" scheduled on the TIVO. I'm hoping it's good. We already are regular watchers of Smallville. I never thought that one would captivate us, but it sure did!

Man our tv schedule is full! We already watch:
Lost
Smallville
Biggest Loser
Survivor
Project Runway
Nip/Tuck
Boston Legal
The Simpsons
American Dad
Family Guy
Mythbusters
Flavor of Love
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
SNL
And a host of other stuff.

DH is practically giddy with anticipation and he is never like that with network tv (just shows on sci fi).

So we'll definitely be tuning in tonight.

I can't WAIT!!! I'm DVRing it tonight!!! Self described "comic book geek" here, too!!!

Well, the major networks haven't been kind to genre shows -- especially NBC; anyone remember Earth 2? Still, maybe NBC will consider the success that recent superhero movies like X-Men have had and give Heroes a chance to find an audience.

Earth 2 was awesome! Of course, I was only 12 when I watched so I might have a different opinion now...

Back on topic-- I will be watching Heroes. I really like Milo Ventimiglia and I've read that Masi Oka is a scene stealer.

If the show is any good (writing and acting) it should catch on. I think the fact that there is no spandex and capes and tights will draw a different type of audience than just self-professed "comic geeks." It also leads into Studio 60 so that might help.

On the other hand, it might be hard to get into the whole idea of a "superhero" if there is nothing that makes them physically stand out... The premise is intriguing, I just hope the execution is good. The show makes me think of the 4400 and of Unbreakable.

I have been seeing this girl all over the place lately. I just watched "Remember the Titans" a few weeks ago and loved her performance(also loved the fact that her characters name is Sheryl, like me). Then I caught "Raising Helen" on Bravo last week. I knew I recognized her. So, I checked out IMDB and sure enough, same girl only grown up. Now, I see her tonight on this new series. I loved her character. She is on her way up.

I really enjoyed this show. I am not a comic book geek, but I love all things sci-fi and supernatural. Just based on this pilot episode, I am hooked.

We really loved it, I can't wait till next week. I didn't call the older brother flying, that was a nice twist, do you think the younger brother will have powers too?

I don't want to say too much because I don't know who's seen it yet (and I hate spoilers) but my favorite so far is Hiro-san. ;)

Since the episode already aired it's OK to post about it, at least that's how it's worked on all the other Dis TV threads.

Well, so far I'm impressed. :thumbsup2

My biggest fear was that it would be very corny or very campy. Instead, it was very well done, a good start to answering the question "how would people react if they discovered they had superhuman abilities?" There's a nice mix of personality types, from the enthusiastic geek (Hiro) to the scared teen (Claire).

Nathan and Peter were a surprise. I was expecting Peter, but not Nathan. From the looks of things, might Peter be able to fly also? How frustrating would that be for him if he can't? And at least the politician isn't the one who can read minds.

In a way I'd like to see them take some time before all the characters interact too much, so we can get to know each of them a little better as individuals. Right now they're all probably feeling like lone freaks (well, not Hiro; he seemed pretty jazzed about the whole thing). How would someone like Claire feel after she finds out there are others like her?

Lots of potential with this one. I just hope it's able to realize it.

Okay, instead of bouncing between two different threads, I figured it made more sense to have one discussion thread like several other tv shows.

Let me know if I need to merge this thread and the one TOV started earlier tonight.

I loved this show!!!
I tend to talk to myself/the tv while watching a show (you could probably have me committed :rotfl:) and DH was laughing in the other room because I kept saying, "Is he a bad guy? Oh no!!" when they showed the cheerleaders (claire?)dad.
He must not know that she has powers, or does he?

Anyway, I loved it and I'm so hoping it doesn't get cancelled like so many other shows I've liked.

As soon as they showed him as her dad, my 1st thought is he does know what is happening with her, and maybe that is why he is involved?

She seemed very stand-offish with hr mom, because her mom was so self absorbed, not really listening to her. Maybe, when her dad is home, she tells him things and he believes here, or she has showed him.

Hayden has been in a lot stuff lately (but has been doing TV since a small child) and is also one of the current Neutrogena spokespeople. My DD is flying out to LA this weekend to visit her (Hayden's an East Coast girl but has been in LA most of the summer filming the series).

I liked the series very much.....I think it has potential and loved all the characters....but how did the Taxi driver learn the streets of the city so fast after coming here from India!!!LOL!!! What did you all think of the garbage disposal scene..... popcorn::

Having it in HD would be a dream come true. We watched them again on DVD and the quality is there, just lost because of lack of HD on SCi-Fi.

If you have Digital Cable, there is a station called Universal HD that just started airing Battlestar Gallactica Season 2 and Firefly in HD.... It looks amazing.

Just joining in here.... I liked it!! It looks like it is going to be good!

That's cool that your daughter knows her. I hope she passes along what everyone here is saying about the show. It's one thing for fans of this sort of show to praise it, but definitely another for the atypical fans to praise it.

Going in I wondered if Claire's powers were invulnerability (like Superman) or healing/regeneration (like Wolverine). I saw it was more of the latter early on, but the disposal scene was definitely an interesting way to show exactly how her power works, and to what extent.
