Official ground breaking of Star Wars land

Its such an interesting thing, though, trends/popularity/customer loyalty/social phenomenon. WDW is, undoubtedly impacted by all of those, in many ways it is a social phenomenon. Its rooted in our society, you know that whole "you just won the super bowl ..." thing. Disney is so huge, and such a juggernaut that its very difficult to see this stopping, the inertia is has built up is incredible, and yet, there are countless such behemoths, that no one thought would fall by the wayside, that have. The British Navy/Empire, Black Berry, US Manufactured Cars (remember when imports were all cheap and crap?), of course you can look at each now and point out "why" they are no longer dominant, but there was a time when people thought they would always be, that they were unstoppable, nothing would ever compare. And people were -sure- of this. Personally I still think that of WDW, I think the people running it are too smart to give up their market dominance, and will adjust things however they have to in order to ensure dominance, if that means after all this up-charging and squeezing of the customer turns people off of WDW they need to discount deeply, they will, and they will bring the crowds back and all will be well (assuming the crowds go away ever). But, what I am getting at here, like so many social phenomenon, so many dominant products subject to the whim of the market, what (arguably) keeps Disney rolling right now, despite the massive price increases and the cut backs, its position in society, the emotional attachment some have, its iconic position as the "it" place to bring your children, etc ... is the same thing that can sink a Ship like WDW in the future. If the market breaks to another product, IF they push people over the edge, if they fail to innovate and keep up with the competition, it might be too late to recover. It wont matter what Disney does, what theme parks it opens or how it cuts costs, all that will be rolled into the social narrative about it. Like I said, I don't think this will happen, I really don't - I -think- they are too smart, but I also think the company is reaching out toward those edges of consumer tolerance and market elasticity, its pressing to see how far they can go and maintain revenue while increasing margins. At some point the market will snap, I just wonder how far they are going to push.

Excellent.

But you know what I worry about?

A cheap suit in his 60's looking to parachute out at the top of the climb...with no Disney to watch. Which was never the case from 1928-2009

We've been saying that for 5 years...
Nobody seems to care. And by "nobody"...I mean Increasing record attendance.

If those that do "care" (or claim to anyway) still attend anyway, you can see why its such a successful product/destination.

Well aware of your stance: "it was great...it is great...it will always be great. People have just been busy since 1971 and are just now discovering it."

The problem is that it isn't correct...it grew with crowds and now is being overrun when they didn't plan for them.

And cheap credit, free spending mentality...but that will last forever, right?

You have my stance incorrect though. I vacation where I get the best value and results. Otherwise I wouldn't go there. That includes DVC, FP+, golf, fishing, beaches, US/IOA and other parts of the world as well.

WDW (and US) can/will use their revenue however they want. If I like the products and how they are offered, I will visit.

I'm well aware of your stance as well, do as I say-not as I do. Vote and speak with your wallets?

By "nobody" you mean you.

You know nothing about my travel habits...

My patronage is down by 66-75% and vacation club is responsible for the other. To say nothing of actual expenditures.

Nothing irks me like groupthink
