Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

Good morning all!

With the Philly half (and a shiny new PR!) now two days behind me, it's all about GSC!!!! I will be taking definitely this week to recover, may take next week too. Haven't completely decided. I may only because I start working third shift on black friday for the holidays, which will mean I can run when the sun is up!!:cool1: I'm going to spend a couple of weeks just doing 30 minute runs during the week with 45 on the weekends before I settle into the plan that I usually use for training about 8 weeks out. I can't wait to just take my time with training and enjoy it for once. I'm very competitive with myself but the fact that I know going into this that I won't PR and that I'm just going to take my time and enjoy it all will be so much less stressful, LOL.

The excitement is really starting to build, ahhhh! I can't wait!!pixiedust:

So an update here...I did not take a rest day after the 10 miler, because I felt fine and wanted to keep my legs moving. I believe I did some yoga and elliptical. Then I ran Thursday and Friday. I went to the gym and did some weight training, then walked Saturday. All through this my legs were fine. Sunday, my hamstrings were sore. I did some strength training moves that I did feel in my hamstrings, so I am thinking that is what it was. I decided to take an unscheduled rest day and run my long run tomorrow. Now, I am still sore and I'm not sure what to do. It doesn't feel like I pulled something, just like I had a really hard workout. Any thoughts?

ETA: Long run this week is only 4 miles.
I'd go ahead and run- don't push it, sometimes getting the blood moving in those muscles will get the lactic acid out and that's what causes the soreness. Start slow on the run and see what happens?
My thoughts, exactly. See how it goes at an easy pace and go form there!

I ended up deciding to repeat this week of training. I wasn't ready for 4 miles today, and I definitely wasn't going to be ready for next week's 11 miler! I started off very easily, almost like a shuffle walk, and was able to pick up the pace. I ended up about a minute and a half slower per mile on average. It hurt a little, by no more than when I started. I am feeling a lot better now! Yay! Being a week behind is a little frustrating, but it isn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Glad to hear it! You give me hope, too, as I look with dread at this weekend's planned runs... :scared:

Don't be scared! You can do anything you set your mind to.

I am really learning the fine line in running between listening to my body and running smart, yet pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. It can be tricky, but it makes me feel like I am really am becoming an athlete.

Yeah, that part I bolded is what scares me... I have a long history of powering through things when I shouldn't, lol! My hip is not good; it's letting me know that in no uncertain terms today, after a very easy walk/run last night. I'll play it by ear, but I'm trying to get my mind to accept that NO running this weekend is probably the best training plan.

Looking at your siggy and your upcoming races, I think you are wise to rest and heal!

You definitely have to listen to your body. I am learning that the hard way! It was with great reluctance I repeated a week, but I think I am stronger and healthier for it.

So excited to do the GSC!:yay: I started my official training this weekend. I ran a half marathon on November 10, so took a couple of weeks off to let my body recover. Nothing could keep me from running this weekend, not even the 3 degree windchill! Can't wait for February! :)

Thank you for the info!!! I appreciate any advice! I have completed two half marathons, both with a disastrous start! I am nervous about this challenge, but I am working through the nerves!

Yeah, I fear it's going to be more than a week at this point. I may need to DNS the WDW Half, altogether. I'll see my dr. tomorrow and see what she thinks, because I truly have NO idea what to do - I did 2 miles of :40run/:20walk intervals Sunday and felt great... but my hip flared up right after mile 2 and I walked home from there. I feel pretty confident that I can get repaired by late Feb., but I'm not so sure about early Jan.

Anyone else notice a glass slipper challenge training program just appeared on the rD site? I am injured and I was going to see how behind I am on their PHM plan, which I was modifying for GSC. But, there was the GSC program. A little late, but there none the less.

Whooohoo! Thanks for the info! I will probably stick with my current plan but its fun to see things pop up on the rD site! I wish there was a pink coast-to-coast training plan. I think that would be interesting to see.

I did notice that. I am glad I used the Dumbo Double Dare training and modified it to a new calendar. The GSC training started in October.
I'm about a week behind because I missed the first longish run. I squeezed it in on Monday though so hopefully I will catch up a little.

Hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend (at least those in the US). Just did my long run of 7 and I'm gonna try my best not to undo it with all the left over goodies I stayed away from yesterday in "preparation" for my weekend run today. (Not likely). Now it's off to see some Holiday lights and train displays with the kiddo and visiting grandparents. I can't believe I only have 3 more really long run weekends before my next race (tink). Of course they all have back to back GSC runs with them - yikes! Training during the holidays sure makes the time fly by. I'm thinking maybe I should just do long runs every weekend so I can eat more Christmas cookies...

I am excited to report that today I ended the month with the most monthly miles I've ever done - 63. Way over the 35 I had set out to aim for last January.

How's everyone's training going?

Just did my 6.5 mile run. It went pretty well. I gave myself 90 minutes to do 6.2 and I came in at 83:55. I messed with my ratios and settled in at a 2/1 run/walk. I think I can maintain that easily for the 10k and the 1/2.

Time to start training....well just actually without too much getting in the way. I did a 7 miler Sunday before Thanksgiving and then have been at my mothers...in the mountains and we got 6 inches of snow Wednesday so I ran 6 miles on the TM this morning. First run in 8 days and I did fine. I am not even going to start back-to-back until the second week in January as I have one more break when we travel to San Antonio for Christmas. Planning on upping each week a mile for the next few weeks.

Hope everyone survived the first holiday and now we are on to the next.

I was just about to post a question about how long it takes for proof of time submissions to be confirmed close to the deadline. But right as I went to open the disboards app, an email came confirming my submission, and saying my estimated finish had been updated! I was worried about an inconsistency with the spelling of my name, so this is a relief. So excited I was able to complete my 10k so soon after coming back from an injury (torn calf). Now I have to be patient and wait to find out where my time (1:02) gets me, and also manage to stay uninjured. I'm not very patient, so I guess I'll have to try and focus on the remaining uninjured part.

Hey everyone! :wave2:

I've been hanging out in the PHM thread for a while and just found this one, so I figured I'd jump into the conversation. I'm running the GSC and the 5k in 2014, so excited! 79 days! :tigger:
