Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

HI everyone! OK so I'm doing this darn GSC but I'm scared to death and a little obsessed! I have a 10k and a half coming up the first and second week in July. Running the 10K for a time to submit to rD and mostly walking the half to get an idea how far and how fast I can actually expect to go. SOooooo, today I'm in the gym progressing nicely (I thought) on my Galloway 10K app. Today was my longest distance EVER. I made it through 8 miles. My time at 10.4K was 1:19'27 which according to my Nike+app is 12:17 pace. I'm good with that but this run took everything out of me, I just know I'm going to be very sore tomorrow. I guess that is why I'm preparing now, right? Does it get better/easier? Can I really expect to run a half, ESPECIALLY right after a 10k (P.S. I'm 55 yrs young!). The app sometimes discourages me because he keeps saying you should finish strong...NOT feeling strong right now...BUT I did finish. If I go much slower I feel like I'll get picked up by the balloon ladies! Give me some hope please

You definitely can do it! A 10k time of 1:19 will definitely keep you from the balloon ladies. And yes, it actually does get easier as long as you don't push too hard too fast.

And I am always tired after an 8 mile run, even if I finished the run "strong." it's still a hard workout!

Try some compression socks tonight, and maybe some ice. Could help w the soreness tomorrow

I agree you are already doing great!! I'd also recommend looking into some kind of gels or fuel during your run if you are not already. And I find that drinking chocolate almond milk after a long run helps with feeling better afterwards.

I don't own compression socks...YET ;) But I was amazingly OK today. I was pretty sore yesterday evening, hip and knee joints, sleeping was a little uncomfortable BUT today I felt good and even did 1mi workout on the treadmill, slow speed but high incline..different muscles. TY for the confidence boost..I need it!

I do some sport beans (love the orange flavor) during the run. 1-2 every 3 or so miles I think it must average. I have a quarter of a power bar before along with about an 8oz coffee (making sure I pee first before getting on the treadmill..I may have to rethink this or make sure it's at least an hour before the run). I sip water, just sips about every mile or so. I eat another quarter of the powerbar after the run even though I don't ever really feel like I want something in my stomach and continue drinking water. I do watch my calories relentlessly because I'm a recent large weight loss (>100lbs) and I don't want to gain weight. So I'm being careful to include lots of lean proteins: turkey/egg whites/shrimp in my diet along with good whole grains for carbs, lots of fruit/vegs and careful portions of nuts/seeds. I LOVE chocolate milk too but right now it's just a rare treat :goodvibes

Most absolutely you can do the Glass Slipper! Lookit where you're at right now - 8 miles is WONDERFUL!! Plus, you have almost 8 MONTHS to get more confident in your abilities - I think you'll rock :)
TY TY for the vote of confidence..so appreciated. I'm just gonna keep plugging along and hope I see some improvements in time/speed as I go. If not if I can just even stay where I'm at and not get injured I'll consider that victory :cheer2:

How many signed up to do Tinkerbell to get the C2C when you registered for Princess?? I keep hearing these rumors about a 10K for Tink too, but if we have already signed up for Tink when we signed up for Princess, are we not going to be eligible for a challenge if they do it?

I registered for Tink and I will be very upset if we are not eligible. I guess I could have waited but I wanted to be sure to get in to stay Legacy.

It's the million dollar question! I plan to do Tink, but held off on registering early when I registered for GSC for just this reason. I cannot imagine that they wouldn't provide a way for those that already registered to do a challenge, but I figured I'd just save myself the headache and wait until normal registration day. I was really hoping to have heard something official about a 10k by now, but I'm more inclined to think it might not happen for 2014 now...just seems like it's too late.

Registeration for Tink opens in 2 weeks.......i can't see them announcing a new race this close. maybe the plan was to have the 10K, but then once they realized the issue with people who already registered during PHM they decided to hold off another year? Although I also read somewhere the issue was DL couldn't hold a race on Friday in Anaheim.....so the 5K family run, 10K and kids races would all have to be held at the same time.....logistically a big issue. :confused3

Isn't this what they are doing for DDD though? I'm not registered for that race, but I thought I read somewhere when it was announced that the kids, 5k and 10k are all on saturday AM with staggered times. I assumed if they did a 10k for Tink, it would be the same. Who knows? I'm a little disappinted though...with all the rumors, I kinda got excited about it! :rolleyes2

The rD contact I heard from said if tink has a 10k it would be same day as the 5k just like DDD

I'm guessing if its happening- we will know this week. Friday at the latest.

If you're averaging 12:xx miles at 8 miles, I assure you - you will NOT be swept. Don't stress over that; really, there's no reason to. I found that the 8-10 mile mark was a huge hurdle. That distance got (still gets) easier and easier as training went on.

About finishing strong... I'm a total second-half runner/racer; I take it very easy for the first mile, pretty easy for the rest of the first half of whatever distance and assess at the mid-point: feeling great? Turn it on and power through the second half. Feeling okay? Pick up the pace a little and reassess in another mile or two. Feeling awful? (This almost never happens because I've taken it easy...) Keep going at that easy pace and live to run another day. It may not work for everyone, but it sure does for me! :thumbsup2

I finished Princess in a 13:10 minute pace and there was a TON of people behind me that finished. You need not be worrying about being swept. If you want confirmation just look at last years race results for Princess and you can see how many people finished after the 13 minute mile mark.

I say focus all that energy on something else! :hippie:

I'm pretty excited! Despite a few tough runs (no matter how early I run, this Texas heat is a KILLER!) my friend and I are averaging a 11:30minute/mile with a walk/run method. It calms some of my nerves about the GSC. Some, not all haha ;)

I too am finding that I am keeping a really good pace with walk/run in this heat!

Anyone finding they are particularly grateful for their feet! I've been taking extra good care of them. Massage, peppermint lotion..I don't think they know quite whats going on :lmao:

I'm a hairstylist, so I tend to get regular pedicures since I'm on my feet so much, but since I started training I find myself soaking and rubbing them at home, too!

I got the email below this morning from RunDisney. When I registered for Glass Slipper, I checked the box that I intended to register for Tinker Bell, but did not add the Tinker Bell to my registration because I was waiting to hear about a challenge. I know a few of you were thinking the same thing.

Dear runDisney Guest,

You are receiving this e-mail because you selected to register for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon while registering for the Princess Half Marathon. However your registration is not complete as you have not yet been charged. Please reply to this e-mail and let us know if you would like to register for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon. If you would like to confirm your registration we will push the charges through on the same credit card you used to register for Princess. Please let us know if you have any questions.

I guess at this point there is not going to be a challenge, so might as well just register for the Half and get it over with.

hmm......i need to double check that i DID register for Tink!! My confirmation says i am confirmed, and my total was extremely large.....i haven't checked my CC statement to see if they did charge that much.
