Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

I have a whole board on Pinterest devoted to marathons around the world I want to do- like one in Germany where you run past ACTUAL castles, and the Sherwood Forest one in England where everyone dresses up like Robin Hood. The Great Wall is on my list but sheesh, those stairs are killer:eek:

Was just thinking I need something new to obsess about on Pinterest. Fabulous idea! And motivational on days when I'm wondering why I am doing all this running:cool1:

Ran a 1/4 marathon (6.55 miles) this morning. When I finished, I thought "in February this will have been the easy part, and I will be gearing up for a 1/2 tomorrow!" Yikes! So excited for GSC!!!:)

I'm in for the GSC and most likely going solo. I've booked a LM room at AoA but thinking of switching to POFQ.

I am going with my mom for the weekend but I am running the GSC solo too and staying at AoA in the LM room. We looked at the POFQ and almost booked it but I fell for the theming at AoA. And it doesn't hurt that it is newer! :goodvibes

I agree! I just got done with my ninth half today and thought I'm going to be doing this 24 hours after a 10k....ugh! :)

We stayed at AoA in a LM room for the goofy this year :). You will love it! And the pool is amazing :)

Looking for a little help from those of you more experienced than me. I am currently benched from running by my doctor. I have ankle tendonitis. I am supposed to be able to resume next week. I have asked for a PT referral as well to try to get some help strengthening some imbalances I think I have which may have contributed to the problem, and prevent future ones. In the meantime all I can do is obsess about training. And swim and bike. But I want to run - and that is unusual for me!

My initial plan for training was to do a 10k training plan, then maintain til the start of a GSC plan I assume we'll see that looks like the DDD plan on the rD site. Now I'm thinking of following the beginner 10k plan, then using a half marathon plan a friend with a very similar level of fitness jut used successfully for her first half. She said she loved the plan and finished better than she'd hoped - 1:50. I expect to be slower than her. I am thinking after I do the 10k program I'll jump right into the program she liked, but do each week twice. To help prepare for the GSC, on my repeat of each week I'll add another run or walk on Saturday, in addition to the Sunday long run. That will give me an even gentler progression of training. Is this reasonable, or is there a factor I'm not considering in my newbie naïveté?

Thank goodness when I bought a planner and scheduled my original plan for training I wrote in pencil jut I case. But I put my races in pen!

People's views vary on back to back runs. I think for GSC that honestly, they wouldn't be necessary (I never did for Goofy). At most, you might want to try once or twice to get a feel of running consecutive. IMO, it's harder to GET UP at 0 dark thirty on 2 consecutive days than to run!

I think the key to the plans is gentle mileage increase--especially back from the injury. I would start very slowly, and a 10k plan--depending on its mileage-might be too much. You might be better served by ramping up slowly for a month or so (even without a plan), then doing your 10k plan, then the 1/2. As a point of comparison, my 1/2 plan doesn't need to start til November. I am preceding that with a 5k plan that I am in now, followed by a 10k plan. As a data point, I am not a novice, but was injured at the start of the year.

But all plans are different, so just make sure you don't start back too quickly. Good luck--and if you can get Coach Charles to give you an answer, you'll be golden.

Hi Ladies.....and a few guys!

Signed up for GSC and Tink last week.....i've done 2 half marathons so far. I'll be running solo but DH may come down with me. then we are going back, again, in April for Spring Break. combined with Tink in January, i'll be at Disney 3 times in 11 weeks! Needless to say, the lack of discounts for Princess were a HUGE disappointment to me!! safe to say no ticket discounts for Tink either?? And after they pushed the special C2C medal, you'd think they would make a special ticket for it. Ugh....time to live on ramen noodles for the next year!

I'll admit i'm a bit nervous about back to back racing.....my 2nd half was a good time, 2:31, but I lost my toe nail and ended up with some pretty serious blisters. I need to be sure that doesn't happen with either of those races.

it freaked me out too, last year when a friend had it happen to her. Now that i've lost mine, it's like another race medal. I'm a REAL runner now....i've lost a toe nail! :rotfl2:

i've heard 2 reasons for losing your toenail.......going down hill, and having shoes too tight. there were a lot of hills in my last half, 10 of them. plus i had gotten a hole in my regular running shoes only 10 days before the 1/2 so i had to hurry and break in new shoes, obviously i didn't do as good a job as I thought i had on that.

I live in Oregon which = hills galore and in 2 1/2 years of running I've never come close to losing a nail or even had sore toes. I always make sure my shoes have a ton of room in the toe box, some brands have wider toe boxes then others. I make sure I have enough room that I can (and do) "fan" all of my toes out and still done "hit" any part of the shoe. I stretch my feet this way every once in awhile when I'm out for a run. Helps relax things!

On a side note I got accepted into the Half Fanatic Club :cool1: last month and this last Sunday during my race wore my shirt for the first time. Good part is a ton of people call out to you, bad part is I keep getting pics posted on my facebook page of me running (which is never a good thing!). Yikes!! I'm a shoulder and up picture poster on FB!

I am wondering about training for the GSC too. Last year I ran the WDW 1/2, and the 5k the day before. Running those 2 back to back wasn't a problem for me, but I think a 10k will be more of a challenge. I was just planning on using a 1/2 training program, but doing the long run on Sundays and a shorter run on Saturdays. Does that sound like a good plan? I am open to any advice/suggestions:)

I took a peek a while back at the Galloway training plan that was posted for the Dumbo Double Dare on the DL Half race website and plan to follow that this time around. Maybe take a look at that and see what you think. I may have to make some changes though because I'm also planning to run Tink the month before so need to be ready for that...I'm hoping that they DO announce the rumored 10k addition to Tink weekend so I can just follow the Galloway plan for 10k/half challenge for that race and then just repeat a couple of the final weeks in the month between Tink and GSC. It would be so much easier to figure out that way!

That's my plan. I have a half marathon training program that will end weeks before the half weekend. Then I'll just start pairing long runs back to back. And separated short runs twice a week with cycling in between.

I've looked @ the DDD & plan to follow w/ modifications for Tink, too!

For those concerned about the back-to-back, yes, it will be a challenge but is totatlly do-able. Throw a couple back-to-backs into training in the last month or so. Even if you don't go the whole distance. I know I've read that lots of folks don't train up to the 13.1 for a half, maybe only 10; so, maybe 4 on Sat., 10 on Sun. Personally, I have to get over the mental hump so I'll be doing the 6.2 & 13.1 in training. BUT it is so true what others have said, that because of the atmosphere & support on race day, it's usually easier than the training.

My BFF & I will be doing the 5 & 10K & she'll need to take it easy. She's overcoming a whole lot & the 10K will be a major challenge for her so I plan to go at her slower pace & celebrate her acheivement.

No matter what, it'll be fun, fun, fun!

For some reason, week 1's long run on the Jeff Galloway 10K app is less than a mile short of a 10K. I thought it was crazy at first, and it honestly scared me a little! I did it though, and I averaged a 12 minute mile! That gives me a lot of confidence going forward, which I need when I am tried and sore!

Here's a link to the website on their criteria page.

You beat me to it! It's such an awesome group of people. When I first got my number and accepted I got over 80 posts on FB welcoming me. It's pretty amazing how quickly you get a response from all these very experienced runners. I'm a total newbie and got accepted into the first level for doing 3 halfs in 43 days. That's nothing compared to what some of these people do! One gal just did her 52nd half in 52 straight weeks...... !!!

This whole losing a toenail thing scares me a little. How do I prevent that?

Funny story about missing toe nails. I go and get pedicures once a month. The last time I was in the midst of training the lady that does my feet was horrified at my missing toe nails and black toe nails:crazy2: she kept asking me why I keep running if I keep messing up my toes. I told her because its so fun!!! She was not buying that at all!!!!

I wear injinji toe socks now to help my toes stay splayed. I only get my shoes a half size up, I just don't like big, floppy shoes.
