*****Official February 2015 Thread! Come check in and chat!*****

There is a place in Downtown Disney where she should be able to get spaghetti! Here is a link to their menu: Naples Ristorante

For snacks, you can get almost anything delivered by Von's, which is owned by Safeway, I think I even used my Canadian Safeway card number when I signed up. Other than that, depending on what hotel you are at, you are likely looking at a taxi ride to get to Wal-Mart or Target. Our trip in March ended with our son getting sick on the last night and throwing up on his loast clean outfit in the morning which lead to me taking a taxi to the closest Wal-mart. (or maybe Target, it was a crazy morning!) I think it was around $20, so not too close.

Edited to add: the closest Target that I can find is 12100 Harbor Blvd, the closet hotels neat the Disneyland entrance are around 1600 S. Harbor Blvd to give you an idea of distance. The nearest Wal-Mart I can find is further.

There is a "Neighborhood Walmart" at 1120 South Anaheim Boulevard. I haven't been there before. But I do know that we have a "Neighrbohood Walmart" in our town and it's basically a smaller version of a regular Walmart. So I am not really sure what all they carry there.

Toddler meals- great point about the cutlery. I had totally forgotten about that annoying aspect! I should bring some for. Y kids! We love the take and toss stuff. We use the sippy cups and little snack bowls like every day. But if the sippy gets lost behind the couch and is disgusting, I don't feel bad about pitching it! The toddler meals are super small. Like come in a cup the size of an applesauce cup. There is no way this would be enough for my two year old, but probably good for a one year old. One time my son loved the chicken and rice one, the next time, it looked super gross and he wouldn't eat it. I think you can switch out the apples for fries. My kids could suck on those pretty young. My kids (preschoolers) are also likely to love the "power pack" that is offered at various places. Off the top of my head, it's yogurt, apples, goldfish, a water and maybe one other thing. I would think you could deconstruct the kids turkey sandwich into a toddler friendly meal. They should sell bananas at the fruit stands. I just saw they have fresh mangos at the Chinese place in DCA. Both of those are pretty soft.

I just googled and saw a photo of the toddler mac and cheese. You're right...the mac and cheese is in a thing the size of the applesauce. That's actually an okay amount of pasta for my son. But when he gets pasta, he also gets vegetables and fruit with it. And sometimes meat as well. So just a tiny thing of noodles and applesauce won't be enough for my kid at all. Thanks for letting me know! I guess we'll be sticking to the kids meals or getting him a toddler meal + giving him some of our food (which should be quite doable for most meals, I think.)

Today on Twitter I asked if there were any substitution for the apples and carrots that come with kids meals. They told me that some places, like Flo's have mashed potatoes or mac and cheese as substitutes. But they couldn't give me a list of others. They said I'd just have to ask at the counter.

I am hoping that any place that services cooked vegetables will let me swap for those. Or even applesauce would work too. I guess we'll see.

Our pediatrician wants our son eating 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. I feel like we aren't going to have any time for rides with meals/snacks/nap taking up our day. Honestly, it does concern me. I think we'll give him cheerios in his stroller for snacks or something.

Look at this cool page I just found! It's two years old, but maybe a good reference. It's only the healthy meals, but those seem to vary more than the other ones anyway.

http://www.510families.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/food-at-disneyland.pdf

Fantastic! I am not the healthiest eater in the world but I am trying to do better with my son.

But seriously...why must all the quick service places have carrots and apples? Some variety would be good. And like I said, for my son, he's too young for those unless they are cooked. Boo.

Because The grand cal is a DVC property, Whitewater snacks has very basic 7-11 type meal options. I know they have half gallons of milk. They might have a bunch of applesauce pouches or cups you can buy and take with you. It might be worth checking out if not going to the regular store.

Here's some good info about upcoming stuff - http://micechat.com/91544-disneyland-diamond-anniversary/ I am glad they are retheming Condor Flats. That area was also so "blah." I will be sad if Toon Town is demolished in favor of Star Wars though.

They will probably still have the 60th stuff going on in November. I know that the 50th stuff lasted a long time. Even into 2006.

Thank you for posting this. We will not be there later this year as this Feb/Mar trip is our only trip, but I do love reading about all the 60th happenings & news. My DH asked me tonight about Disney Aulani, so maybe there's more Disney in our future in next few years after all-LOL. He had info me "previously" this would be our last Disneyland trip for awhile (he's ready to do some other vacations/traveling). :beach:

I know! My kids couldn't eat those until like 2.5!

For something totally off topic...

tygersclaw, every time I read your screen name, I have that poem by William Blake running through my head! :thumbsup2

I'm not sure if that is where you got your screen name from but that is all I can think of!

:offtopic:

LOL actually Tyger/Tygers was a nickname a old g/f gave me 18 years ago...and the name just evolved into tygersclaw as I began operating forums and participating in forums. :D

Thank you for your reply Aladora. The information is appreciated.

The part I highlighted is because I have a question about that. What I wonder is if one can still use Canada Safeway Cards now that they have been sold to Sobey's??

Anyone try lately?

Nope, not me. I've actually tossed my Safeway card since there are none on Vancouver Island. Sobey's bought Thrifty Foods and because of that purchase, they had to close all the Safeways on the island. Sad, that was where is used to get most of my airmiles!

btw...I was not meaning to upset anyone with my 2nd last post, but, all the negativity about the closures and the pages and pages about the closures and no other info overall about what will be happening at DLP kinda set me off.

If I offended anyone, let me know and I will move on from the site with my apologies. From now on I will keep personal opinions/thoughts to myself.

Apologies again.

I know for me, we are disappointed with the closures, we are coming from Australia, I have been saving for this trip for 13 yrs, a graduation present for my daughter. We have spent just over $6000 on flights/accommodation and tours, then add in a few more thousand for spending money.

We picked February to come over, as it is the end of our school holidays/start of the new school yr, thus making flights out of Australia half price at $2300 for the two of us return.

We considered changing our holiday BUT to change the flights alone would cost us $4000, as they were half price plus the fees involved.

Are we upset - you bet your booty we are...have I cursed - you bet you I have, have I cried - too right!!! this is the trip of a life time, it was meant to be able to see EVERYTHING disney has to offer ...the Castle is iconic to disneyland.

Imagine you decide to tour Australia, only to book and then fine Uluru Closed, the Opera House closed, Harbour bridge shut...Or a tour of London only to find Big Ben Shut or Buckingham Palace shut...It is disappointing, It hurts and it makes you upset.

To spend so much money and not be able to change dates, does make it hard and ppl will complain. Some have spent more than we have, we don't have the opportunity to just pop back over another day.

I don't think it fair of you to call out ppl who are upset or "complain" as this is alot of money, this is a once in a life time trip, we may never get back.

I am disappointed, but I am trying to get the "you will still be at disneyland" feel, I am trying to see the positive of "we are going to america", but the castle closure really upset me, I know we will have fun, I know there will still be lots to see, just some things, I may never get to see.

Okay I have another question (sorry), which may not fit into this particular thread/forum (again sorry), but, here we go.

(Can you tell who the DLR newbie is??)

DD5 and I arrive at LAX at about 11AM PST. Hop the shuttle bus (11:45) to the hotels in Anaheim, arriving most likely around 12:30 - 1PM.

We get checked in, and then have the afternoon and evening free. Besides just chilling and relaxing at the hotel, would it be worth while to rent a car for 1 day and drive to San Diego for the Zoo or LA for UDH or???

Basically I am looking for ideas to keep us busy and see some of the sights/attractions near Disney.

I am doing everything Disney on Friday to Sunday so looking for something fun for us to do Thursday afternoon/evening.

Thanks in advance

I was really trying to avoid posting a message like this because quite frankly, I am not a moderator on this forum and I don't really want to be. I've moderated enough forum and sites to not want to have to deal with that here.

I think it is very obvious why this thread has almost 1100 posts and is the thread with the 6th highest number of replies, after threads like the Holiday Superthread, the Disneyland Dining Reviews, the Grand Californian Super thread, the Hallowe'en Superthread and the World of Color Superthread. This thread has so many posts because there are a handful of us here who love to chat and who feel very strongly one way or another about how we feel about our upcoming vacation.

I don't want people to flounce off and never post here again but at the same time, I don't want anyone to feel as though they are not welcome to say how they feel. Having said that, I think there are a few things that have been said enough and I don't know if they need to be rehashed over and over and over.

Yes, there are a number of closures coming up in February. Whether we were aware of it at the time we booked our trip or not, the 60th anniversary celebrations which start in mid May are going to have an effect on our experience next month. I don't think anyone can argue that this fact sucks. But, at the same time, some of us care a lot about the closures and some of us have a more glass half full attitude.

Posting about how terrible the closures are puts a damper on all the fun planning we all want to chat about and telling us that if we are not calling Disneyland and demanding that they do something about it, well then we are all fools is quite frankly insulting.

At the same time, there are any number of us here who cannot just change plans and go another time and for some, this is a once in a lifetime trip so for those people there is more on the line for this trip and more to be disappointed about which makes the "it's not so bad!" even more frustrating to read.

But, those facts and comments and points of view have been posted and talked about and vented about and debated and argued about in this thread enough for now, at least in my humble opinion.

This thread, which was supposed to be a fun, lighthearted, enjoyable place to come and post and share tips, hints, plans and ask questions has morphed into somewhere that people are angry and hurt after they read and I don't really like that all too much.

Can we please all just agree to disagree and move on?

Wow i suppose you would be quite happy if half the park was closed, personally i think everyone going in February who have insisted on a goodwill gesture and succeeded have done a good job, after all why should the February guests be penalized for the 60th celebrations, without any type of goodwill gesture. but for the one`s who are quite willing to accept the closures i can not recall anyone on here calling them fools, easily pleased perhaps but not fools.

GAH NO -LOL. We never tour on a travel day as we are always too zonked. The most we've ever managed was an hour or two at Downtown Disney. If you are arriving at 11, I'm guessing you need to be at the airport at like 7:30 or ??? For us between lack of sleep cause we are too excited to sleep, early wake up cause we have to do last minute "stuff" and the stress of travel we usually end up asleep. I would plan nothing at ALL for arrival day cause likely it will be a waste of money.

I am trying to avoid arrival day fatigue, which is now compounded by my illness, by taking an evening flight instead. We can sleep in, putter our way to the airport, have an early dinner, and get to the hotel in time for bed ... maybe :) I have no idea if that plan is going to work better but this mama is NOT hauling anyone out of bed hours early this trip - lol

We are arriving at 6.30 am, we are planning on getting to our accommodation - we have booked the night prior to our arrival to check in right away, showering and freshening up, finding a supermarket and doing a little shop then hitting disneyland for the day, in hopes to stave off jet lag...hope it works ;)

Out of curiosity, has anyone besides MG3G received any form of goodwill gesture due to closures?

I had emailed them last week, asking about the castle, got a response yesterday, didn't get offered anything nor did I ask. The lady was polite and was very apologetic.

I am not one to demand this that and something else, I will just quietly go about Disney and not raise a fuss with them. Sucker I know, but just not me, besides the way I see it, we have a 10 day pass for a bit more than a 5 day pass, so that is my discount...lol

That's compensation for living on the other side of the world! LOL
