*****Official February 2015 Thread! Come check in and chat!*****

We are going Feb. 7th - 14th, to celebrate our youngest being 5 years post stem cell transplant and cancer free!!!! We are going to tell our kids at Christmas so I am getting excited, but not able to share it with anyone! When he was going through treatment (spent 5 months straight in hospital) he watched Cars nearly every day, often twice a day, so we thought it would be fun to take him to CarsLand to celebrate! We have invited our extended family and some close friends to come with us, it's going to be so much fun :banana::banana:

Welcome and what an amazing thing to celebrate! It will be 8 years since my diagnosis in December and I remember how important getting to that 5 year mark is! :thumbsup2

How old is your son now?

I've added you to the list, it's such fun to see another British Columbian heading down in February. :goodvibes

I hope It's a Small World isn't down at the beginning of February! I was under the impression it would be back open by then. It's one I really think my son would like. I am nervous about him on some of the dark rides but I thought IASW would be okay for him. :([/QUOTE]

Poohbear is a great dark ride for kids. My oldest was scared of all the other dark rides except poohbear when she went the first time, at 5. We rode it a lot.

2 yr old was small and shy and 5 year old was scared of spinning and dark rides. Besides Pooh we did a lot of people watching and spent a lot of time on Casey Jr., Toontown and Bugsland.

Now 10 yrs later I have roller coaster and speed of Carsland fanatics who love their dark rides and meeting characters. Oh how they change.

This was posted in another thread, of course as always refub schedules are subject to change. No note yet about when IASW is closed to remove the holiday overlay.

So sad about Peter Pan. And I hope Winnie the Pooh reopens on time since our last park day is February 10th.

Lately my son has had these weird freak outs in various places. The other day a Santa thing at Walmart started up as we walked by and he cried and started shaking. It was sad. :( And a few times he's done that we can't figure out what it was that scared him. So needless to say, I am stressing out about rides at Disneyland. Originally I thought he'd be able to handle everything because he's so young to really "get" things. But now I don't know. We will probably skip a lot of things we originally thought we'd do with him.

Which means if Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, and It's a Small World are down...that would be kind of crappy. We will probably avoid Pinocchio and Mr. Toad's. And Haunted Mansion and Pirates. So yeah, kind of a big chunk.

I figured at least 1 dark ride would be down. But I hope there aren't more!

Matterhorn, Splash, Soarin....not a huge deal to me. We won't be doing many of the 'adult' rides. We will do rider swap for a few things but this trip is really more about enjoying things with our son.

I just hope these closures don't make waits for other rides super long.

There is always Bug's Land in DCA that is super kid friendly! Also, Casey Jr, Dumbo, Jungle Cruise, Storybook boats, both carousels (DL and DCA)...but yeah, it can get disheartening to see so many scheduled refurbs.

When we were planning our March 2014 trip, this was the list of scheduled refurbs as of 4 months out:

DISNEYLAND:
Railroad:Feb.24-March 7
Space Mountain: March 3-May 22
Nemo Submarines: January 6-Sept.26
Alice in Wonderland: Feb.3-June 5
It's a small world: Jan 21-Feb 7
Big Thunder Ranch Railroad: now-Jan 31
Indiana Jones: march 3-April 25

CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE:
Soarin Over California: Feb 18-June 5

As it turned out, the only things that were actually down for refurb were:
Nemo Subs
Big Thunder Railroad

I was so freaked out about Space, IJ and Soarin' and ended up that they were all open.

Yay! We will be there February 19th through 28th - spending 5 days at DL and CA! Also will see Universal Studios and possibly SeaWorld. Staying at the Tropicana. So excited :)

Bummed about some the refurbs, really hoping some of them are actually open. :)

I think I'm most bummed about Splash Mountain being down while we are there. Such a bummer, that's one of my favorite rides! (Well, aren't they all? haha :rotfl:)

So what's everyone plan for the first thing to do when they enter the park on their first day?

Originally we thought we'd head straight to Peter Pan for our son's first ever Disneyland ride.

But instead I think we are just going to take our time down main street and really just soak it all in. Get some photos in front of the castle and whatnot. We have 5 days in the park so there's really no need to rush. (Pre-baby we would have gone straight to Space Mountain for fast passes...ha!)

So what's everyone plan for the first thing to do when they enter the park on their first day?

The first thing we are going to have to do is head to either City Hall or the Chamber of Commerce to get my son's DAS card...after that, we will ride whatever he wants to first! One of the things that we found helps him not get overwhelmed at DL is to allow him to take the lead on where we go. So, if we go to DL first, then we will absolutely have to ride Space Mountain first. In DCA, we will probably get a return time for RSR and go on Monsters Inc on the way there.

This trip will be a little different in that instead of catching the earliest flight possible we are taking a late afternoon flight that gets us in around 7:45 pm so we will not go to DL that first day. When we fly in early in the morning, we have to wake up at 4:00 am which always ends with DS getting super tired in the afternoon and having a total meltdown. By taking a later flight and not going into the park that first day, we are hoping to avoid the first day nightmare and just enjoy 4 full days plus a half day on our last day.

Right now Orbitz is having a buy 3 get 4th free and buy 4 get 5th free parkhoppers but they are only good until the end of 2014. I am really hoping they will bring out a similar deal early 2015 especially since you can get $ back if you go through ebates to get to Orbitz!

Other than that, the best price I have seen is on way.com although you do need to call in to buy if you are Canadian.

As for not wanting to look at DL deals when you are not planning a trip...well, let's just say that is how we ended up going Sept 2013 and August 2014!

Hahaha too funny! Glad I'm not the only one!

I've never heard of Orbitz but I'll keep checking it. We've actually considered getting an annual pass again. We did it for our Christmas trip and after the hotel discount, food, merchandise, etc. we actually saved money by getting one!

Do you have an ebates.ca account? If not you should definitely get one! Cash back for buying stuff I would be buying anyways, heck yeah! They just added Sephora again and they are giving 8% cash back for their stuff right now! :cool1:

If you don't have an account there and are willing to use a link to sign up, send me a pm here and I will send you mine. :thumbsup2

I've never even heard of it. I don't do a whole lot of buying online. Can you use it in store?

So, other threads I have been on have had a question of the week so here is my first one, if anyone cares to answer. This first one came to me when I was adding everyone to the list in the first post.

What does your screen name mean?

I have used mine for close to 15 years. I selected this name out of randomly generated names that I could choose from when I signed up for MSN chat. Not a very exciting story lol

Have absolutely no idea what we will do our first day in the parks, we have never been before, so it is all new to us, think we will just be in awe of it all.

We arrive in LA at 6.30am on a sunday morning. So we are thinking of going that day, depending on how we feel. We have pre-booked the night before we land at our accommodation, so we can check right in, freshen up and start our adventure. We have never been out of Australia, so overseas travel will be new to us.

We have a 10 day pass for Disneyland so we won't have to rush around, we can just sit back, relax, plod along and take it all in.

My daughter is sitting the final of her HSC exams as I type this, so once this major stress is over, we will sit down and work out exactly what to see and do in Disneyland and surrounding area.

100 days to go!!:banana::banana:

Joining! We are heading to DLR Feb 7-10. My daughter turns 3 on the 15th, so we are going right before she needs a ticket. My son will be 4, yep, 17 months apart. Our last trip they were 10 months and 2.25. We are DVC and staying in a one bedroom at Grand Cal. The plan is 3-4 day park hoppers. I'm hoping for a ticket deal, but not holding my breath!

Super jealous, I tried finding someone to rent points from but no availability for the time we were looking for!

Welcome to the thread, I have added you to the list!

We aren't planning on hitting the parks on our first day. We arrive at 6:30am so will check in at PPH as soon as possible, and probably spend sometime at DTD. I imagine we will all (especially the kids!) be completely shattered, and wouldn't really benefit from doing to much that day.
