Official Dopey 2017 Thread

I have to admit, my general exercise has faltered. Mostly due to work this time of year, no AC the the temps the last few weeks have all the sudden went to spring the middle of summer like BAM overnight. So, bottom line is, it's an excuse, but I've just been beat.. Good thing is it's not abnormal for our work.. So it's started to slow down, back on the exercise, and cant wait for 'official' training to start.

Ditto. Although I WAS building a base before that started, but now am just working on getting healthy for the start.

I've got a marathon planned for early November, so my plan has been to train for that starting the first week of July or so. After that, the plan is to focus on maintaining marathon conditioning through Dopey.

Not sure about everyone else, but T minus 20 days until my 'official' Dopey training starts!!

I seem to keep signing up for races so I'm hoping to just keep a good base and work towards a marathon we're doing in October! After that I'm going to do some back to back runs to help keep my stamina up and build towards Dopey.

Is it just me or is it weird that dopey, goofy, and the full are still open?

The weather has also killed my motivation. What does everybody do to keep that up?

I am a bit surprised dopey is still open but either they opened more spots up for it, it's loss popularity due to price, or everyone is waiting for 2018.

Goofy and the marathon usually take a while to sell out.

The weather has kind of killed my motivation along with a bunch of other things but I did get out for a run yesterday. I don't know any other advice for that.

I'm surprised about Dopey, but it's pretty standard for the other two. I think Dopey had something like ~1300 people who had run all three after last year. Outside of legacy runners, I'm guessing a lot of people have checked it off their bucket list and it is no longer a "must-do" on a year to year basis. I expect an increase in popularity during the anniversary year, but with a slight slow down in the road running boom I think this will be a little more of the norm moving forward.

We really only had a few years of the early sellouts for the marathon in any form, so I am not surprised that the challenges are still out there. Most "one and done" folks have moved on to the race distance that they really enjoy.

As for motivation - I run because I can, not because I have to. I want to run, so I run. If I didn't want to run, I'd choose another activity.

I did did a 10k the other day but that was before the Sun cane up. It's hard to log the miles I would like in Florida heat and humidity. Most of my runs are intervals so I can recover with shade and water.

Perfectly Dopey... 917 Remain

So, @DopeyBadger ask me to look at legacy Dopey runners quite a while ago, but I just finally got around to it. I wasn't really sure if I should post this here or in the 2016 Dopey thread, but I decided here since this is the currently active Dopey thread.

In any case, based on my analysis, there are approximately 917 runners who are still perfectly Dopey after three years of the event (2014-2016). I have attached the list of names below. Please note that this list is likely not 100% accurate. Although the analysis was pretty robust, there is only so much data to go on, so there are a few cases in which names might be on the list that shouldn't be or names that aren't on the list that should be. Here are the two main circumstances where there could be a problem:

- Last Name Changes/Misspellings: the last name is the key data item that I filter on first, so although I completely test for first name nicknames and misspellings, there is no good way to test for last name changes or misspellings; therefore, the last name must be identical across all three years for the name to appear on the list.

- Common Full Names: really common first and last name combinations could result in a name being on the list that shouldn't be. For example, if the full name John Smith appears for all three years, but it wasn't the same John Smith each year, it is possible that this name may get onto the list when it shouldn't. I do check for this to a certain extent, but it's not perfect.

Awesome work:worship:

My sister and I both appear on the list...so I can confirm that 2 of the 917 are correct. I'm pretty sure, statistically, that this validates the whole list.:woohoo:

Nice work. I see my cousins name on the lost which She is perfectly dopey but she has called it quits after last year due to family reasons and won't be perfectly dopey anymore.

THIS IS AMAZING! Thank you so much! You truly are a wizard! :worship: pixiedust:

I discussed this with someone else I've met at the last two WDW marathons and this is pretty spot on with the information they got from a runDisney rep at the expo. She was told about 950 people had signed up for the 3rd year.

Jeff Galloway training plan has been updated on the RunDisney site for those who want to use that.

The weather has also killed my motivation. What does everybody do to keep that up?

I'm getting up at 5:30 and running before it gets unbearable. My motivation is lagging, but my son told me that discipline is better than motivation, so I'm trying to be disciplined. I make sure I have all my running stuff set out the night before, and I get up and out the door before I wake up enough to talk myself out of it.
