Official Dopey 2017 Thread

Im looking to go dopey 2017 booked the flights and all as they were to good to turn down lol. Will be nipping home early from work to get the tickets booked assuming that would be ok?

I have my flight booked as well, but my wife and I will be going down no matter what. Even if I don't run for some reason, my parents, who live locally and have booked hotel on their DVC points, will want to see their grandson again. We just need to work on pulling money together for park tickets and food now.

I was trying to remember which resorts were host results for Wine & Dine but, besides the one we were at, I couldn't remember. I assume they are pretty much the same every race. Anybody have a list of host resorts?

Every WDW resort is a host resort for Marathon Weekend.

Great! I didn't know that. Wine & Dine was my first runDisney event!
Wine & Dine is the smallest event at WDW (for now...we'll see if they announce some additions for it this year) - that's why they only pick certain resorts for "hosting." Star Wars - Dark Side, WDW Marathon Weekend and Princess weekend are much bigger, hence all the resorts being host resorts. :)

I'm the same and have already signed up for about 6 halfs during the course of the year as training runs which probably has me more at 95 percent ;)
I found a 1/2 that has a really nice time allowance... The ones that have 3 hour limits I just worry as I figure I'll come in around 245 or so.. Found one with a 4 hour time, and in around the end of August, and matches up nicely with a training program.. Think that weekend calls for 11 miles.. We'll make that work.. So I guess my point is, I think I'm around 99% now haha

OK Dopey buds! I think I want a playlist for every distance. Who has good ideas for Disney or non Disney songs to add??

You know, I find playlist philosophies interesting. Above you've got something I might have for lifting or a 5k when I want the hard hitting stuff to really push me. But for a longer run, it's very different. Sure, I'll have some Gonna Fly Now and that stuff near the end, and I'll want something motivational pre-start, but for the most part I keep it uplifting but mellow. Too much drive and my pace will spike and throw the whole thing off!

The park music is actually pretty good for me. I like the electronic stuff that's played in Tomorrowland, and I wish there was a 20 minute version of the Soarin' music.

I'm the same. During Princess I listened to my Rock My Run playlists.... Stuff like cosmic strides (mellow techno) and remixed oldies and what not. When I train I tend to go for the harder hitting pumping stuff to keep me 'in the zone' so to speak. But if I did that at a race; esp as someone who still struggles with consistent pacing? Yikes! Lol

@Chasing Dopey search for the "Soarin' Queue" music. It's not what's played during the ride but it's an hour long and very nice. I don't have a downloaded copy but I listen to it on d-cot.

I have listened to music for the 5k and 10k before, basically I try to "beat" the playlist, because those are kind of the just get them done races. Mostly I don't ever listen to music during Disney races. Too much going on and too many runners for one of my senses to be oblivious (I use the one ear method when listening to music in races so I'm not completely oblivious).

If you need music during your race I would say that is a matter of personal taste. I like pretty much anything from showtunes to Christian metal (I'm weird, I know) and almost everything in between. As long as its a song I like I've found that genre doesn't really matter for my running.

I have been listening to my thumbprint radio on pandora a lot recently. Apparently I really enjoy Huey Lewis, billy Joel, Phil Collins, Chicago, idina menzel, Paula Abdul, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, no doubt, garbage, spice girls, zao, project 86, demon hunter, reo speedwagon, smashing pumpkins, toto, nirvana, oasis, chvrches, and Andy Williams Christmas songs. I don't know that anything can be divined from that information, beyond the fact that I have impeccable musical taste, but figured I'd share anyway.

I am a strange one also lol.. I will listen to Disney park music, heavy metal music, or the music we play at church.. Now we are one of those "rock" churches with the loud music and flashing lights, so it's not far removed sometimes from the metal :D I've also been known to fire up a book on tape..

Such good tips! I definitely don't use music as much in the Disney races I have done just because there is so much going on but I do like a little noise in one ear. I'm all over the board with what I like to listen to so I love hearing everyones suggestions since I tend to mix a little of everything. I'm getting anxious getting closer to registration and choosing little things like this to keep my mind busy lol

My friend and I are thinking about this but have never done a Disney run, how fast does registration for the Dopey Challenge fill up?

According to this post,

http://www.disboards.com/threads/marathon-weekend-2016.3266760/page-15

The 2016 Dopey AP early registration sold out in about 20-30 min last year.

The 2016 Dopey normal registration sold out in between 3.5 hours and 11 hours. The timing wasn't perfect because the rundisney website said 99% at 11pm, but the link wouldn't let you register thus an unknown fill time. I would guess it was closer to 11 hours. The 2015 Dopey normal registration sold out in 2 hours.

Hope this helps!
