Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

Anyone know when the bib numbers (and associated corrals) will come up? I guess when the waivers are ready? I can't remember from the Princess when that was, maybe about a month before (http://www.trackshack.com/disneysports/prin12w/verify.php) ? I did see they are having 7 corrals (A-G).

Yeah, it's about a month before like Princess. Looking at the calendar, I would say the last week of July/1st week of August.

Tip about the corrals, get there early. The placement of the corrals is similar to last year, and last year, they were only letting so many people go at a time, and it was like a cattle call w/ everyone trying to get to their's. Hopefully they won't do that last year, but just in case they do, I'd get there a little earlier.

Is anyone else doing a costume/Disney-appropriate attire? I think I'm making a running version of the ballerina in the haunted mansion stretching room (I'm saving Minnie for the full in January). I started making my pattern, but I can't quite commit to the fabric, I've grown to love whatever they're using for shirts at Lululemon. I can't go back to cotton!

Hi everyone, I am a deluxe AP holder and of course the race is during a blockout weekend. Does anyone know if there is any special pricing available for blockout day tickets or, if by some miracle race participants will be allowed the use their AP's?? (wishful thinking, I know!)

I believe there are special discounted event tickets that you can buy. Found the link! www.gettravel.com

I'm doing a Cinderella theme. I found a running shirt that's the right color and have a decal to iron on. I also picked up some rhinestone sticker things and scrapbook stickers that surprisingly stick to the material really well. And I picked up the Cinderella mickey ears at the park earlier this year to put on top of my running hat. I'd get the sparkle skirt, but that is just waaaaay to girls for me, so I'm sticking w/ my running capris.

Don't forget about the blackout day tix too. I know they raised the price a little w/ the price raise in Jun, but they still might be cheaper.

The one next to the convention? The shuttle will stop at that hotel as well, but you could also walk. Here are the directions for walking, it may sound a little confusing, but it'll make sense when you there and you'll see others walking as well.

Try to come out of the hotel on the Katella side. You'll be facing the back end of DCA. Turn left on Katella and walk towards DL Drive/West Dr. It's the street that the resort hotels are on. When you get to DL Drive/Katella crosswalk, cross the street so you area on the same side as the PP and turn right. You'll be walking towards PP. This is where it starts to sound weird, but I promise it's not. Once you pass the PP, there will be a parking lot. You can either turn left and cut through the parking lot to the service road and turn right to walk down the service road or cut diagonally through the parking lot to the service road. When you get to the parking lot, you will be looking/heading towards the AMC movie Theater at the end of DTD and the DL hotel. When you go to the expo, if you go to the DLH from DTD, you will see the service road I'm talking about. It's also the last bit of course that we run down to the finish. The staging area is in the DL hotel parking lot. I know it sounds confusing, but it's really not. Plus you'll see tons of people walking and there will be music coming from the staging area so you know you're going the right way. If you walk instead of the shuttle, it'll be about a mile walk.

I did up a map so hopefully it'll make sense! :goodvibes: Map my run map. You can make it larger to get a better sense. Just a note though, when you look at the map, where you turn left into the parking lot, the hotel across the street is the GC, not the DLH like the map says. The towers shown at the end of the route make up the DLH.

Thank you so much for the directions and the maps your provided. This is a very detailed directions you gave. 1 mile before the run is a long walk. I just dont want to be exhausted by the time i get there. :)

Yeah, sorry about that. :rotfl: Plus at 4 in the morning in the dark and your 1st time out that way (?) just wanted to make sure it made sense.

Kim - Thanks so much for all the info! I really appreciate it. Glad to hear the shuttle will be running so early; I think I will aim for a 4 AM "depart my hotel room" time and see how that goes. I always think I need tons of time but then always end up waiting around for like an hour. Still, don't want to miss the race!

Aaron - It suddenly has gotten hot in Oregon too, and my outdoor runs have been non-existent for the last two weeks. I am hoping to change that this afternoon. Are you going to the parks on Saturday at all? DH and I are going to do California Adventure.

I'm not dressing up only because I have a very specific running outfit that I feel comfortable moving around in, and I don't want to change my routine. But tons of people do dress up.

Kim,
I signed up for the Princess yesterday and now I'm thinking about what to wear. Not sure if I'm going to do a costume or not, but can you please tell me where you got your Cinderella color shirt ?? If I do I have to dress as my favorite Princess. Thanks :)

No worries! :goodvibes Did you figure out which chear package and park ticket you're going to get?

I got it at Sports Authority. It's a men's Champion running shirt. They're $18.99, but they've been on sale pretty much all summer. And if they have a coupon in the ad that week, you can get another 20% off! I ended up getting it for $11. Here's what it looks like, but a little lighter in person.

I am not sure about going to the park. I want to but i am going alone. That may not be fun. Part of me want to go cause i never been to Disneyland and the other part is we have Disney World which is 7 hours away. I am sure i am not missing anything there but just want to experience what it is like at Disneyland.

While I have a "very specific running outfit" you can see it below, and most would call it "dressing up." :rotfl2:

No Aaron! You totally have to go into the parks!!! It's a little similar but a lot different at the same time. It's smaller than MK, but it has a few more rides. IASW, HM, Space, POC and the Jungle Cruise are different than MK. Indy is like Dino at AK, but in my opinion, better than Dino. It has the Matterhorn, which is awesome. There are a few more rides in Fantasyland ~ we still have Mr. Toad's, plus we have Snow White, Casey Jr Train, Alice in Wonderland and Pinocchio's. New Orleans Square is the best! If you like to people watch, that's the place to be. And even though you're going alone, you'll have fun ~ you can go wherever you want and do whatever you want. I'm going solo, if you end up going in, I'll meet up w/ you if you'd like.

But you have to go at least 1 day to check it out!! :goodvibes

No worries! :goodvibes Did you figure out which chear package and park ticket you're going to get?

Yes! :) I am going to get DH a Gold Cheer Squad (which comes with a 1day1park ticket) for $99, and I am going to get myself a 1day1park ticket for $71 via GetTravel.com

Also - Aaron, I agree with Kim. Go to one of the parks for at least one day. I have some friends that have gone solo before and they have a fantastic time. Especially if you have never been before. Definitely. Go.

DH and I are doing California Adventure for our park - maybe we will see you around!

By the way - in running news (since this is a WISH thread) - I have so seriously slacked. Ugh. Since the wedding (Feb) I know I have gained a little weight, and DH and I are trying for a baby, and its been hot, and I've still been able to manage a 5k on the gym treadmill about 2x a week at about 32 minutes, but I need to get out and do my longer 7-8 mile runs. Last time I did one of those was June 21. ACK. On the upside, even though I feel a little squishier and my jeans are a little tighter, my average running pace has gone up. Weird. Back when I started running in April of 2010 I struggled with a 14 MPM pace. Then for the Wine&Dine Half in October 2011 I had a good 11:30 MPM pace (though I finished in 2hrs28mins so my pace was better for the race). For the Princess (during my honeymoon) I had about a 10:45 MPM pace during my training, and now, even though I've been slacking with the running, my standard average is more like 10:30 MPM and I can push myself as fast as 8:30 MPM for a whole mile and not get too winded. So I guess my overall endurance has improved? Anyway... the 'slacking on running' stops today. Weather is not has hot, and with about 50 days to go I am hoping to run some distance every day between now and then. I was kinda hoping to beat my PR from the Wine&Dine. Maybe finish at 2hr20min...

Your costume sounds like a lot of fun. I'm going to go ahead and dress up this year. I'm going to be a girl version of Buzz Lightyear. I'm excited.

if you get a chance to go to the parks, please do.

I lived in Anaheim the last 2 years and moved up to Portland this spring. Just went back a couple weeks ago to check out the new California Adventure. It is amazing. Especially at night. CarsLand is everything it is being touted to be. Radiator Spring Racers might be one of the best rides on either coast for Disney. The detail is stunning. Rode it 8 times. Single rider was never more than 30 minutes, not matter what the sign was saying.

And Disneyland has a charm and magic that you will not find at the Magic Kingdom. Totally agree about New Orleans Square. Love the vibe and the people watching there.

Happy and Healthy training everyone!

Great tip about RSR! That may be the route we go! :thumbsup2

Are you coming down for the race this year?

Absolutely!!! 4th time for me.

This race was the reason that I started running. Without it I would probably be 300 pounds and sitting on the couch. instead I am trying to decide what shoes I am going to wear and if I should wear the bright volt compression socks with the bright volt shoes or should I save them for the Goofy in January. :)

Love to see all the NorCal and Pac Northwest Dis'ers on here. So far so good up here in Beaverton. The weather is amazing (even the rain), do NOT miss the LA traffic ( I now walk to work), and everything is just so green and fresh. Not living 10 minutes from Toy Story Lot kinds bites, but I gotta use those frequent flyer miles for something.
