Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

I am like a few of the previous posters and looking forward to the nice cool weather. I am from north Texas and I had to run at night when it was 95 with lots of humidity. Looks like it will be great weather Sunday.

I admit that I'm picky now that I live here. I live NW of DL up the coast and am used to summer mornings in the high 50s for running. But, I did three years at SMU in Dallas so I know what you are all experiencing. You will think it is perfect. Relatively dry and cool, but not cold.

Well, race day is coming soon and I've just come down with a cold. My kids and wife had it over the weekend and although I was as careful as I could be, it's hitting me hard.

All I can do is rest up and hope that it gets somewhat better by Sunday morning.

Oh well, I wasn't setting my sights on a PR for this one, but as long as I finish I'll have completed my Coast to Coast challenge which is the primary goal.

Getting on a plane Friday morning. It's getting exciting.....

Looks like the weather is not going to be as ideal as I hoped. We are still hitting one of the best days of the week, but it looks like race start could be 67. At least they are predicting overcast which should keep the temperature from rising too much. Make sure and hydrate well.

Push a lot of vitamin C through your system. Hope you feel better.

Feel better soon! Get your rest and drink lots of liquids - you want to make sure you're hydrated and it will also help to flush the extra germs out of your system. Safe travels!

i've put on the kt tape last night and it is starting the peel from shower and of course just walking around the office. I am going to let it stay on for a couple more days and then reapply. I would rather have a profesional apply it on. This will have to do. Its getting better and i am not going to attempt to run at all until race day.

You know I was thinking about that because the same thing happens to me. The tape peels off much more quickly at home than it does when the pros apply it. I think the difference is that they wipe down the area with rubbing alcohol. I don't do that. There could be oils or creams on your skin that prevent the tape from sticking completely. Dunno. Just a thought :goodvibes

I have used a different tape before and I do the same thing regardless of what brand I use. I always clean the skin with rubbing alcohol. The other brand name tape stays on for days even with me going into the lake water etc, the KT tape comes off withing 30 minutes of me starting to sweat. I am really interested to see what happens once they put it on.

I think so too but then i did take a shower before i applied it on. Never had pros doing it but i guess i will have to at the expo. Last time they had pros there, it was at least 3 hours wait on the waiting list. My ankle do feel a little better though.

This was from the 5k the day before. I got upstaged by Tink as you can imagine.

That is such a cute photo! I love how the guy to the right is wearing the race shirt backwards! :rotfl2:

As for people w/ KT Tape peeling, try cleaning the area w/ rubbing alcohol 1st. I had problems w/ peeling too and when I used the alcohol 1st, it helped.

i will try the rubbing alcohol once i get home tonight. thanks

If you apply KT tape post shower, give yourself a good amount of time before applying the KT tape, too. I find if my skin is still even a little bit damp it doesn't stick well.
I also have been applying it at least a half an hour before I go start my run. If I run right away, it comes loose more easily.
I'm applying for achilles tendinitis, and I wore it under my Zoot compression socks this past weekend, and I think the compression of the socks made it stick even better because it was on there SOLID for days.

I'm so glad I started using it - it's an amazing product. (I'm using the KT Pro, by the way).

Thanks for the warning about the long waiting list at the expo. I was planning on getting a pro to apply it for the half, so it looks like I'd better get there early.

Hm.. i never thought of the compression socks that would help Kt tape stick. I am just afraid that having the kt tape on and then putting on the compression socks would roll up the kt tape. I'll take a note of that next time i put them on. thanks

Be careful with this though. I had a minor injury this summer (calf pull) and had a family trip to DL planned. I put on KT tape as instructed for calf support, following the instructions. Then put a calf sleeve over the top for support. It was itching a bit, so I ended up taking it off half way through the day. Somehow the KT tape generated some deep water blisters where it attached at the top that were really deep and sore. I'm not sure if it was the heat, or the added compression of the sleeve, but it really made for some raw skin.

To be fair, I was very careful about keeping the compression socks away from the tape on the "down" side around my heel/ankle areas until they were in place. It took some shifting, but I managed it alright.

Ouch! That's so strange. I didn't have any trouble like that, fortunately.

I've also used the KT tape with compression socks. I just have to be careful when taking the socks off that I don't disturb the tape too much.

Also, if you watch the videos, be sure to rub the tape to create some friction/heat to help activate the adhesive. I haven't had any issues with the tape coming off early. It doesn't last quite as long as when my chiropractor puts it on, but it's lasted for 3-4 days.

Vicki ~ have a safe drive down tomorrow morning! Hopefully the 5 won't be too bad.

Thanks Kim !!:)

You have a safe drive down too !!!

Can't wait to get on the road and back down to DL. But first I need to finish packing and get a million things done before we leave.

Will probably run into you at the AP event for DL Tues morning. Hopefully, it will not be too crowded with all the locals back at work and school.

Have a good and safe drive.

For those who have run this before, do you listen to music/mp3 player while you run or is there enough going on you don't need to?

My first half.....

May bring the mp3 player just in case.....I am thinking that once off the Disney property and not in Angels stadium, it may get quiet.

I'm glad to read these posts. I've used both CEP compression sleeves and KT tape but on separate occasions...never both together. It sounds like I can do this as long as I'm careful, correct?

I listen to music on my iphone. There's entertainment all along the route but between bands/dancers/etc it quiet since we seem to be running next to all the tile and graniet and flooring companies in the OC.

I only have one ear bud in so I can enjoy the entertainment.

Have a great first 1/2 !!!!! Besides the parks running through Angels Stadium is my favorite part.

I always use mine. They do have some bands and cheer groups, but like you said, b/w the resort and the stadium, it's industrial and I find that it helps. I usually turn it off after the river trail before the stadium b/c I love the little boy/girl scout troops and through the stadium. I'll turn it back on again after the stadium until just before the underpass of the 5 when we head back towards the finish. Heads up about the underpass though ~ cheerleaders line it and they are loud. But in a good way ~ you need it to drive you to the finish.
