If you pick up a cake at the boardwalk bakery, do you still pay the 18% gratuity? I know if you get one at a restaurant and use TIW then they add the the 18% to the meal and the cake.

Pre ordered a custom cake wed for a sat dinner at Sanaa for my sons 4th b-day. Waiter said that all 6 inch cakes are frozen even custom cakes. We decided not to have the cake because I thought it was going to be a fresh custom cake. Let it be known that ALL 6 inch cakes are FROZEN then thawed. Even pre ordered custom 6 inch cakes. Sad.

So Im thinking about getting a mini wedding cake delivered to Ohana on my husband and I's anniversary in October. Im thinking just a basic cake, maybe with color, and something written on the plate. Do you guys think that would push the price up beyond the $35?

I don't have a photo on this computer otherwise but I found an almost identical cake via google. We got this exact cake (different colouring), with a message written on the plate and it was $35.

Thats even more decoration then I was thinking so yay! :cool1: Did you have any special filling at all or just basic chocolate/vanilla type?

We were charged the 18% even without TIW at CRT. Don't know about pick up though.

I don't think your server was correct unless that's a thing for Sanaa alone. There is no chance our 6 inch custom cake last year was frozen. However I highly suspect our more recent cake was a defrosted podium cake.

The waiter just volunteered that info?? I'm confused as to why the waiter would even know about the preparation of a cake.

Did you order the cake with the waiter?

Sorry, just confused about your post.

My very fancy, incredibly talented, very expensive wedding cake baker freezes all her cakes. Makes them even more moist and easier to decorate.

We had a second tasting because of some circumstances and for the second one she used fresh cake; the difference between the first (frozen) samples and the actual cake, and the fresh, was night and day. I personally want a cake that was made and frozen, given our wedding cake experience. I don't see it as sad in any way.

I tend to agree. I just took a cake decorating course, and I needed a cake to practice on two different weeks. The one I froze tasted better (more moist).

Buddy on cake boss was telling another baker a few weeks ago that he makes the unfinished cakes and freezes them all the time....

How far in advance do I and Can I order the Slipper Desert for my daughter to enjoy at the Afternoon Garden View Tea - She had it when we went four years ago and I want to surprise her with it at our Mother Daughter Trip - she still talks about it. :) I am excited to surprise her! The tea is at the Grand Floridian.

I ordered one last Friday for mon the 10th. No problems at all. I've heard up to 72 hours ahead.

I screwed by DH's 40th birthday (Tuesday) by having sinus surgery, so I'd like to surprise him with a custom cake in our BLT room in a couple of weeks. If I'm reading the thread right, I need to contact the CR bakery (chef Donald now?) and they can deliver it to our room during our stay, correct? I'm assuming they will deliver on a Sunday evening, and they will leave it in the room?

I really have no idea what to request. I know I don't want one of the flat cut outs. Needs to be 3D. He likes Soarin' and Pirates of the Caribbean ...

Yes and yes. As long as you are checked into the room, they can leave it at any time. The Grand Floridian has a 3-D white chocolate Jack Sparrow—you could ask the Contemporary if they can do one too.

YES! Thank you thank you so much! I would hug you if we ever met in person. :)

Looks like I'm ordering a mini cake on Monday!

:thumbsup2

Should be just tax on pickup.

Hi everyone. We will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary at Disney this year and I would like a mini cake. We will be having our anniversary dinner at California Grill. What I'm wondering is if they will allow this and if anyone has any idea where to find updated photos of the mini cakes available.

TIA. :)

Yes, the Contemporary pastry team can make minicakes. However, there is no standard list of minicakes, so there are no updated photos of them. :thumbsup2 About the closest you'll come at Disney is asking for "Mickey's Delight," which will get you some variation of the design below. But your best bet is to look through the photos in this thread or work with Private Dining at the resort to customize a design for your cake.

I emailed the Contemporary this afternoon re: a birthday cake for my husband's 40th. We love the California Grill's sushi and I got a reply within two hours from Heather Hancock, cake decorator and chef assistant. They are going to create an 8" cake with fondant sushi for $105 for delivery to our BLT room on 2/23. Fingers crossed.

That sounds so interesting! Please post a picture!

Will do ... probably should have done something more 'Disney-ish" or at least using the monorail since we are staying at BLT, but I wanted something different.

What a great thread. I read thru and decided upon a mini cake with the castle on top and the plated dessert platter with peter pan brownie type thing and Cinderela Slipper.

Question if anyone knows

1. is the cost of the mini cake with chocolate castle on it more/less than the mini cake that is tiered? Meaning one mini cake on top of the other like photo above this post?

2. Does it matter WHERE I have this ordered from? Meaning if I want it at KONA is it possible or am I better off having it delivered to Grand Floridian Villa to our room?

thanks!
