I have a tea time at GF tea room for 3/21. We will be celebrating my 40th. Just the 4 of us. What options do I have for a small cake. I like the mini two tiered, the white chocolate castle, and the Cinderella slipper. Any of these would work since we are eating sweets there. Any advice on when to call & pricing options? Thanks!

You can do any of those things at the Grand Floridian. I'd call maybe 2 weeks ahead to place the order. Prices are $30 for the 2-tiered mini wedding cake or the mini white chocolate castle cake and $15 for the slipper. (A more elaborate 2-tiered cake could cost more.)

Has anyone gotten really nice cakes from the BoardWalk? I see the GF and the Contemporary are really top notch with their cakes.......I could always do the Contemporary, but I was thinking about having a cake at POFQ so getting it from BoardWalk, but I haven't seen too many really fancy cakes, which is what I want....anyone have any luck getting a nice cake from them?

I got a great-looking minicake a few years ago, but I sent in photos of exactly what I wanted. I really think that's the best way to ensure you get something nice-looking (and even then, you're not guaranteed)—send photos, a sketch, a photo composite, etc. When you leave it up to the discretion of the pastry chef to fit a theme without photos, it can go either way...

Anyone have a FROZEN Themed cake picture to share?

I want to know how much to budget for the cakes. If a 8 inch cake is 35.00 and no charge for the screen print, what is the ball park figure for taxes, delivery and tip? I would do 20% for tip as that is standard for me. I just want to know how much I need to set aside.

In restaurants you only pay tax and tip. Tax is 6.5% everywhere on property except at the All-Stars; they are located in Osceola County, so tax is 7%.

For room delivery, you pay tax + 18% service charge + $3 delivery at resorts that have Private Dining. But at places like Art of Animation that don't have Private Dining, there's no delivery charge.

Also if I have a cake delivered to our suite at Art of Animation: will they deliver it on our check in day? Do I have to be in the room to accept the delivery?

Yes they will deliver it, as long as you are actually checked in. You don't have to be there.

I'm looking to get a cake while we are there in March. We are booked with Memories wedding so I wanted to get a little cake for afterwards. I would like a two tier red velvet cake with the anniversary Mickey and Minnie. Would something like this be available at Animal Kingdom Lodge? Originally I was thinking of having it at BOG but decided it would be nice having it while sipping on some champagne with the new hubby:) Mainly it's the red velvet and the white chocolate figures I'm really interested doesn't have to be the two tier since it would just be the two of us at AKL. If I have it at BOG, there is 7 of us so I would have to get a bigger cake anyways. Thanks!!

The figurine won't fit on a two-tiered mini cake, and a full-size two-tiered cake is $$$, so you may want to get a 6-inch cake. They could put it on the plate next to a mini cake, though. Also, I'm not sure Animal Kingdom has the mold for that figurine—they seem to have the least well-equipped pastry department of any of the Deluxes. It's best to speak with them directly and see what your options are.

Just got back from an amazing week at WDW!!!

Had a fabulous cake delivered to Chef Mickeys on our first night for dinner - it was very yummy - chocolate (moist) cake with Bavarian cream filling - fondant outside - 6 inch cake but it was HUGE!!!!!!
$125 made by chef Donald and his crew at contemporary!

I would totally order again - it was so tasty and just a perfect surprise!!!!

no problem...not to be a downer, but I was disappointed and I just wanted to put my opinion out there. I'm sure others have had great experiences but I found when they really push those screen printed chocolate toppers they probably aren't going to do much more to the cake. I should've spoken up and said something but I didn't want to make a big deal about it in front of my kids...I asked for clowns and balloons and 'lots of color' to be put on the cake and there was NONE of that...I had them pipe on the cake 'to my little clowns' and it made NO SENSE because they didn't pipe on clowns so my kids were like 'huh?' It was like they forgot my cake and was like oh crud throw some triangles on it and bring it up. Like I said, I've seen other cakes that were nice but just because you ask for it doesn't mean they will do it, they did nothing of what I asked...and I also bought my own cake topper and asked if I could drop it off and they could decorate around it and I was told 'no because of sanitary reasons'...but don't brides bring cake toppers for their wedding cakes? Just bizarre...I hope you have better luck with your cake!:)

Thank you, I definitely appreciate reviews even ones that aren't too positive. I can understand why you weren't too happy, with what you described I wouldn't be either.

Was it easy getting an email for them? Since I will have to order through POFQ, I wasn't sure how easy it is to get an email for the BoardWalk. Thanks!

We were ordering for delivery to BoardWalk, so we worked directly with a pastry chef there. But when I ordered for AOA, I was able to email a cake pic to the contact there, and she forwarded it to Yacht & Beach Club for me. So I'd ask your contact at POFQ if you can do the same.

Thought you guys would get a kick out of these Haunted Mansion cakes. The first one was made by the new Contemporary pastry team recently. The second was made by Chef Brian last spring..

I ordered a Haunted Mansion cake for our 10th anniversary! I sent the above pictures and requested the purple theming, but with the frame, caskets, ghosts, flowers, etc. I requested a few hidden Mickey's on the cake; hopefully they remember and hopefully we find them before we eat it! Can't wait to get it. We're staying at BLT, and having it delivered to the California Grill on our first night.

Thanks for the pictures!

Has anyone plated a mini cake WITH a slipper? I would love to do both!

I haven't seen it, but the GF does serve a little chocolate "boat" next to the slipper, so maybe there's room.

Just wondering what has won out for the best tasting custom cake ordered at WDW?

All the Disney pastry teams use the same recipes, so the cakes will taste the same no matter where you order them. :thumbsup2 Some people have reported variations in the freshness, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern of one place having fresher cakes than another. As to flavor combos, that seems to be up to personal taste. Peanut butter cup is a popular filling.... Lots of people report loving the fruit fillings and boozy fillings, but I can't stand either of those, so I'd tell you red velvet with cream cheese buttercream frosting (not cream cheese mousse) is the best. :teeth:

Anyone know where I can get the chocolate slipper? I wanted it for be our guest but they are telling me no. Can I get it at chef mickeys?

Cinderella's Royal Table or any restaurant at the Contemporary Resort or the Grand Floridian Resort.

I'm not sure if anyone else ever ran into this problem, but just wanted to share in case. When we had a cake delivered at CRT in November they would not allow me to use the TIW discount on the cake. I asked for a manager and was told that because it's a special dining experience the TIW card could not be used. It never made sense to me since CRT takes the card, so in planning our next trip I emailed TIW to clarify before choosing a restaurant for our cake.

They replied and told me that CRT was in error and that the discount can be used on cakes in any restaurant that accepts the TIW card. They said they would be contacting CRT to make sure they are aware of the policy.

They even offered to refund me the amount of the discount I should have received if I can find my receipt. I thought that was nice.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone else gets the same misinformation I did.

Has anyone ordered a Monsters University Cake at Contemporary? We are celebrating a 4 year old bday in February at Chef Mickey's. There are only 6 of us so a big cake is not necessary.

I have one (just one!) cake question this time, haha.

Has anyone ever had their cake delivered to their Tea Time event in the GF? I just scheduled my first time there at 3:55PM, and think having the cake delivered right then and there would be super phenomenal for my trip. :hyper:

One final question...which one is better? The mini cake or the chocolate slipper? Anyone want to way in?:goodvibes

Wow, that's some good customer service you got there! :thumbsup2

It really was. I was impressed.

Btw, thank you for posting the pics of the white chocolate Cinderella. I'm still trying to figure out what we want to do but I do think the kids would love a painted princess. All three of my boys are big fans of Cinderella. Thanks!

Here's one somebody got at the BoardWalk. I'm sure the Contemporary can re-create it.

Yes! People get cakes and mini cakes at the Gardenview Tea Room all the time.

I think Disney's white chocolate tastes like wax, and all white "chocolate" is a sham, so take this for what it's worth, but… MINI CAKE!!! :teeth:

Has anyone ordered a Wreck it Ralph cake? I am trying to decide between a Ralph and a Dumbo cake for my DS

Thanks

I screwed by DH's 40th birthday (Tuesday) by having sinus surgery, so I'd like to surprise him with a custom cake in our BLT room in a couple of weeks. If I'm reading the thread right, I need to contact the CR bakery (chef Donald now?) and they can deliver it to our room during our stay, correct? I'm assuming they will deliver on a Sunday evening, and they will leave it in the room?

I really have no idea what to request. I know I don't want one of the flat cut outs. Needs to be 3D. He likes Soarin' and Pirates of the Caribbean ...
