Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

Ok so basically the cake threads are making my head hurt, and I'm still a bit confused.

We're going in July for 5 nights, and have ADRs for 4 of the nights for dinner

50s Prime Time
Cape May Cafe
CRT
WCC

My friend's birthday and her daughters are at the end of June/mid July, and we have notes on our ADRs that we're celebrating their birthdays. I thought the slipper would be nice for CRT, but now I'm wondering if we can get something else for all of us. I know they do the slipper, but would they do a regular cake? There's 7 of us, and I figured that would be kind of nice.

If not, which would be the best place to do a cake for a birthday? I really wanted to celebrate the daughter's b-day at CRT, but if we can't do a cake cake.....idk. My brain hurts. It's not a necessity, but I thought it might be cool.

How sweet! To order any custom bakery cake, call the Walt Disney World Resort at (407) 827-2253. You can get more details about what you can do by going on www.disneyworld.com , roll your mouse over things to do, click celebrate your special occasion, go to the bottom of that page where there is a purple box that says customize your celebration, and click on browse celebration options. You can then narrow the search based on what you want. I hope this helped and have a MAGICAL :wizard: vacation!

Is it ok for me to jump in with a question? By all means tell me to start my own thread if you don't want me here ;)

I'm in the UK and wanting a birthday celebration cake for my son while at WDW. Are we able to call and arrange one while there? Or does it have to be way in advance?
Reason being we're really on a tight budget at the moment, and overseas calls wont go down too well... :(

Also, do you have any idea how much they cost? We'd not be wanting anything big. In fact, we might end up settling for none (or the dry cupcake if it happens  )

Lurkyloo :worship: thank you so much for giving us all this information from your last trip. They can make some amazing things, they just need to get their info organized. Hmmm, maybe you should do a passporter book about cakes, dessert parties, and private dining??

I ordered it from the Grand Floridian Bakery and had it delivered to our breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe 1/16/11. White cake, white chocolate filling, buttercream frosting. It is a mini wedding cake, I did inquire about fondant frosting, it was $15 more to do it, and although she loves fondant I didnt order, the cake we had made together at home for her birthday was fondant covered.
Cost $30.00

If you follow the steps that I gave above you will see all of the possible cakes that you can purchase. I am not sure how much they cost. Hopefully someone else can help you with that. However, certain cakes can be ordered 48 hours in advance (Mickey Mouse Cake) and other can be ordered when you check-in at the restaurant (a plain 6- inch cake either vanilla or chocolate). The other must be pre-ordered. If none of these options interest you, you can mention your celebration and they will bring you a cupcake, slice of cake, or dessert plate with a candle for free depending on the restaurant. I hope this helps!

When I made my ADR's the lady let me know that celebration cakes can be made when you arrive at the signature restaurants and given to you at the end of your meal for like $20 or something like that you just have to tell your server and they aren't anything extravagant just a basic chocolate or vanilla cake with basic frosting, but if you want something more elaborate with different cake flavors you have to call the cake line and I think you can do that up to 2 weeks out or 48 hours you arrive.

Here's what it says on the Disney site:

"Guests may request a 6" cake (non-personalized) upon arrival at the dining location for a charge of $21.00 plus tax and gratuity (no advance notice required), with the exception of Victoria & Albert's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Guests who wish to order a personalized cake may call the "Cake Hotline" at (407) 827-2253. Guests under age 18 must have parent or guardian permission to call. Personalized cake orders require 48-hour advance notice."

Another thing they had on display at the Disney Weddings Bridal Showcase was a huge variety of white chocolate characters available at the Grand Floridian. I spoke with one of the pastry chefs and was able to finally get a list of all the characters available

Hey, do you know much extra does it cost to have a chocolate figurine added to a cake?

I apologize if this has been asked already but with 144 pages, it can be hard to locate just what you are looking for. :)

Our arrival day dinner is set for 'Ohana. We are also staying at the Polynesian. If we wanted to have a cake delivered either to 'Ohana or to the Polynesian, would we call the Contemporary or the Grand Floridian? And would it be better to actually call or to e-mail them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Grand Floridian is the one that delivers to locations at the Polynesian. Better to call! :thumbsup2

lurkeyloo,

You totally rock! Thanks for all of the info. :lovestruc

I own a bakery and am a pastry chef with a particular disdain for fondant, I call it cake skin and avoid it when at all possible (I see it's necessity in deco but I'm just not a big fan)! :p Fondarific is pretty amazing, but not many people actually use it. :confused3 After seeing those beautiful photos you took and I'm sure the talented pastry chef's at Disney can do an amazing pirate cake sans fondant.

Thanks so much and the photos you posted are incredible!

:rotfl2: Cake skin!!! I have to say, I've always hated the taste of Disney's fondant, but I finally had some the other day that wasn't colored (and was probably fresher than what was on our wedding and anniversary cakes) and it was kinda marshmallowy and nice. Still, I'm a buttercream fan at heart...

Seriously! Oh wait... we already have a "Festivals & Celebrations" book—I totally need to add a chapter about all that stuff! :teeth:

The prices seem to vary by resort. Over at the Contemporary they're $28 for plain with gold accents and $45 hand-painted. Meanwhile, the Grand Floridian quoted me $30 for unpainted ones. As with most things cake- and special dessert-related at Disney, it's best to call Private Dining at the resort where you want the thing and see what they're saying right now. :goodvibes

Thank you lukryloo!!!!!:cheer2:

Any time! :cutie:

This may have been answered already and apologize if it has, but for a cake from the Contemporary, we need to get a wedding cake delivered to California Grill. How much time would they need for a wedding cake? I think standard time they would like is 2 weeks, but even if it's a wedding cake?

Wow! I didn't know that was available! Thank you for that information :) I'm hoping to do something extra special for her :)

Feel free :)

I'd be happy with just some sort of cake, so hey, if it's what we can get, we might just do that! Thanks!

Oops, sorry, can't believe I didn't try the link! I think I assumed it was one I had found before that wasn't helpful...

Excellent then, we shall probably make arrangments while there :thumbsup2 Thank you so much for the help!

The custom cakes are way more expensive. I called last week and they start at $60 for a 6" cake. I ordered a 6" chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and ganache with some flowers and a mini white chocolate castle on the top. I have no idea what it will look like but it will be a wooping $90. The price plus tip will be added to my meal bill at that restaurant.

Also, custom cakes can't be delivered at every restaurant. It's mainly at CRT and resort restaurants. For the other cakes, you can have them pretty much at every restaurant but you are better off ordering it ahead of time, like the day before, to garantee to have one. Check out the cake thread on the boards, lots of info.

I ordered a cake for our dinner at Chef Mickey's a few years ago...

DH and I were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. I called about 2 weeks prior and had the choice of a 6" chocolate or vanilla cake. I want to say the price was about $20, and I was able to have "10 years of magic" written on the cake. It was ok... nothing spectacular. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was just a (previously frozen) cake you can pick up at your local grocery store.

I think you can get one of these cakes at any table service restaurant. The specialty cakes can be ordered from a restaurant inside any deluxe resort.

You should also note we have a thread awhile back from someone who thought they would save money by purchasing a birthday cake from the Boardwalk Bakery and carrying it into Chef Mickey's.

They found out that while they were allowed to bring the cake in, it had to be kept at the table and the guests would have to serve it themselves. The poster was anticipating that the restaurant would provide birthday candles plus staff to carry the cake out of the kitchen in order to present and serve it, so they could surprise the birthday person. Apparently this can be done only if Disney delivers the cake to the restaurant (or if you buy the cake from the restaurant itself). They won't allow cakes into the kitchen that were brought in by guests, nor will staff be provided to serve it.

We just celebrated my daughter's 6 year old birthday at CRT. I planned on the glass slipper for her and then I ordered a 6" cake for the rest of us (there were 8 of us). The cake probably wasn't necessary as dessert came with the meal anyway, but it didn't feel like a real birthday without a real cake to sing her Happy Birthday with. It was just $20, so I figured it was worth it.

The glass slipper though was fabulous! When my DD saw it, her eyes nearly bugged out of her head. Then with what felt like one fell swoop, it was gone. She devoured it and loved it. It totally made my day.

I suggest going to the Official Cake Chatter Thread for more custom cake info (as well as pictures).

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2413710&highlight=cake+chatter is the link

Lots of information and there are some rather helpful ladies who have ordered custom cakes from WDW's bakeries on several occasions. HTH.
Sigh-yeah that's where the confusion came from ;) So much info! I've been reading the thread just for the heck of it, and then when I needed to actually pay attention it all started to bleed together lol

Yeah-I totally remember that thread. That will most definitely be remembered :)

There are actually 2 of those going. The first one has the ordering information as well as cake flavors and fillings (although diffrent Deluxe Resort Bakeries have diffrent flavors and fillings)

The first cake I ordered from WDW private dining was a Chocolate with white chocolate filling cake. I believe it was 8 inches with a Lilo and Stitch theme...cost was about 40 dollars. It was served at O'hana in the Poly hotel and looked like this :

The current cake I'm ordering from GF Private dining is running me 180 dollars. 10 inch Haunted Mansion themed cake, yellow cake with baverian creme and strawberry filling.
