So you can order just a 1 or 2 cupcakes for an occasion????? Interesting!! :goodvibes

In theory, yes... it will be interesting to see if Pat actually lets you do it in practice! ;)

All these cakes are amazing! I'm so overwhelmed! :)
I need some experienced Disney cake guidance!:worship:
We won a trip to Disney this summer and then week it is just happens to fall when we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary! YEA!
So, I would love to surprise the hubby with a cake. Nothing horribly expensive. We are staying at the contemporary, so if you were me, what would you think about ordering and where would you get it from? We would be better having something delivered to our room when we got in from the day's activities? HELP! :lovestruc

I'd definitely order whatever you decide on from the Contemporary and have it delivered to your room for convenience's sake. Fancy, fondant-covered cakes usually start around $100 and must be 8 inches or larger, though, so you might want to consider a simpler, buttercream-covered cake if that's out of your budget.

When you say the Contemporary will make a cake for the Magic Kingdom, do you mean only CRT, or can they do other restaurants, like Tony's?

What was posted here is that Contemporary makes all the cakes for MK, so it seems like it doesn't matter which restaurant you're going to at MK. But you could call the Contemporary cake-order line to be sure: 407-824-2955

@joesbutterfly ( since I accidentally quoted someone else and had to edit this)

I also had a terrible experience at The Plaza and will never dine there again. Similar things, we waited over 45 minutes to even be seated for our reservation. Sat waiting 15 minutes for our server to even come greet us ( that's a long time for someone to not even say hello or hand you a menu.) Waited a very long time for our food( meanwhile all the other tables are very well cared for) waited even longer to be offered desert, waited...yet again for the desert to come. Then to top it off had to wave down another server to get our check. I really do think it depends on the server because just like you we sat and watched all the other tables get great service. I'm sorry that happened to you and I can totally understand your complete frustration as I will never again book The Plaza for anything:mad:

I have a surprise birthday dinner planned at Chef Mickey's for DD14 and have never eaten there before. I really want to surprise her with a small cake. I would order through the Contemporary correct? Other than Chef Mickey's the other location I may plan to surprise her is at Cinderella's Royal Table. Who would I call for a small custom cake if I decided on having a cake delivered there? Also if you had a choice between the two places which do you think would have the best cake overall (taste, design ect.) Thanks

Hi, I am hoping to order a cake for DS birthday for our trip in November so I have plenty of time to organize this but it is his birthday on the last day of our trip so we dont want a huge cake and we are hoping to do an illuminations cruise that evening. Does anyone know if they can arrange cakes on these cruises of if I should arrange this with the Boardwalk Bakery. We may also go for the Crystal Palace breakfast that morning as he wants to spend the day at Magic Kingdom but I didnt think their podium cakes looked great. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Contemporary Bakery services both locations so it really doesnt matter as far as the cake goes.

Yes, you can arrange to have a cake on an IllumiNations cruise by calling Private Dining at the Yacht & Beach Club. However, the smallest cake they will customize is a 10-inch, so the only way to get a 6-inch is to order the standard choc/choc or vanilla/vanilla cake that's basically the same one you'd get at the podium at Crystal Palace. :( You might want to talk to BoardWalk Bakery to see if they will do a custom 6-inch cake (if not, it will be the same as the podium cake) that you could pick up and carry on the cruise yourself.

This was our DD's 14th Birthday Cake :-

Location Citrico's at GF, cost $150, vanilla cake with white chocolate filling, asked for Nemo theme and left the rest up to the chef.

I started a thread to ask a question about cakes, but I guess I should have asked here. :) Here's the question..

I know there are some super knowledgable Disers out there regarding Disney cakes. From what I can tell looking at the pictures you can't get a Winnie the Pooh cake, but I was wondering if it might be possible to get a Darby cake since she isn't an A.A. Milne character. Both of my girls love My Friends Tigger and Pooh.

Trying to think of a fun 1st birthday cake for our little one..

I have lots of cake questions, any help would be appreciated!

Should I wait for 180 days out to order my cake? Is it correct that I should call the Contemporary for a cake to be delivered to California Grill? Also, has anyone had a cake w special deco without fondant? Wondering what their abilities are as far as chocolate.

Finally, what type of buttercream do they use? American, SMBC, French? Also, I see a lot of restaurants use the Valrhona line in their desserts, anyone know if they use that in their cakes, and if not, can I request it?

Thank you so much!

I asked this a while back but don't think anyone answered. I ordered dd's cake from CR to be delivered to CRT. Does the price I was quoted include delivery? I forgot to ask. If it doesn't how much is delivery? Thanks.

I think you'd have a good chance of getting Darby, since she's a Disney creation, but she will most likely be screen-printed onto white chocolate.

The recommended guideline is to order between 2 weeks and 2 days out. You would call Contemporary Private Dining for a CA Grill cake. Many people have had cakes done in buttercream or ganache instead of fondant. However, what a lot of folks don't realize is that fondant has buttercream under it, so if you're skipping fondant b/c you're worried about the taste, you needn't.

Those are definitely questions for the Contemporary pastry chef. :thumbsup2 The cake-ordering line there is 407-824-2955.

There is no delivery charge.

Another thing they had on display at the Disney Weddings Bridal Showcase was a huge variety of white chocolate characters available at the Grand Floridian. I spoke with one of the pastry chefs and was able to finally get a list of all the characters available.

White Chocolate Characters Available at Grand Floridian:

  • Every princess except Ariel, Aurora, Tiana & Rapunzel
  • Tinkerbell
  • Peter Pan (2 different poses)
  • Mickey
  • Minnie
  • Donald
  • Goofy
  • Pluto
  • Remy

Also, she said they are working on getting a Stitch prototype approved. They had a lot of these on display, including some that had been painted, so I photographed them all.

No problem—I have to tell you that I was SOOOO excited when I saw the display of figurines! It was like discovering a secret or something, the way Disney is so cagey/disorganized about the options for special cakes and desserts at the resorts. My first thought was, "Oh my goodness, the folks on the DIS Cake Thread are gonna go nuts when they see how much choice there really is!" :goodvibes

Ha! I would have felt the same way! They're awesome! :)

I apologize if this has been asked already but with 144 pages, it can be hard to locate just what you are looking for. :)

Our arrival day dinner is set for 'Ohana. We are also staying at the Polynesian. If we wanted to have a cake delivered either to 'Ohana or to the Polynesian, would we call the Contemporary or the Grand Floridian? And would it be better to actually call or to e-mail them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

lurkeyloo,

You totally rock! Thanks for all of the info. :lovestruc

I own a bakery and am a pastry chef with a particular disdain for fondant, I call it cake skin and avoid it when at all possible (I see it's necessity in deco but I'm just not a big fan)! :p Fondarific is pretty amazing, but not many people actually use it. :confused3 After seeing those beautiful photos you took and I'm sure the talented pastry chef's at Disney can do an amazing pirate cake sans fondant.

Thanks so much and the photos you posted are incredible!
