Interesting!! I spoke with Pat a few weeks ago to order an Anniversary cake for my parents 50th. I wanted a 6in with fondant stamped with golden mickeys...I was told it would be over $100!! I ended up ordering a 6in vanilla with cream & strawberries that would be iced with buttercream and the Mickey/Minnie topper and she told me it would be $66. Why does it seem like the prices are all over the place? I thought the 6in cake that I originally wanted would be closer to the $70 price and when I said as much to Pat - she said "I don't know where people are getting these quotes from..." :confused3

GF prices seem to be all over the map lately—I swear to you that the first cake you requested has been quoted at $55–$75 according to posts here in the last couple of years. Considering that you can get an over-the-top, fully tricked-out 8-inch Haunted Mansion cake from the Contemporary for $100, it sounds like the real bargains are to be found at that resort! You might also try BoardWalk Bakery, which can do the "Mickey's Delight" style you want and doesn't seem to have as high prices...

What a pretty cake!

The subjectivity of the pricing makes me nervous.

Where can I find Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings' cake pricing sheet?

Thanks!

how can I tell my family to do this for my b-day LOL? we'll be up at Disney for my 39 b-day in Sept and I would love to have a cake and not a cupcake LOL

PM me your email address and I'll send it to you... for what it's worth... I guess the GF doesn't really adhere to it if you're a member of the general public!

This was my DD's cake delivered to CRT on 3rd March. It was $75 plus tax and tip. Chef Brian was fab to work with he was so helpful:)

That's a beautiful cake! Could you tell me what size the cake was, 6 inch, 8 inch, 10 inch? I'm thinking I'd like something similar to this one for my DGD 6th birthday this summer.

Thanks Karen[/QUOTE]

Thankyou it was a 10" cake it was so yummy

That's kind of a bummer for me.... I really love the cakes that I've seen come out of the Contemporary, but since we're staying at YC and the closest we're getting to any of those resorts is the Spa at GF... I guess I can't order one though Contemporary.

I don't suppose they accept bribes? I'm a cake snob.... I know what I want, darn it! :snooty:

:goodvibes

I got my cake at the YC, and it was amazing!!!!!!!!!!! BUT, it was not cheap! I was quoted way more than anything on here. I did talk them down a bit, but it was still very very spendy.

Thanks, that makes me feel better! I'll give them a call and see how things go.

I'm also considering trying to set up a special event dinner for us through catering to surprise my husband. Going to give them a call this afternoon to go over a few things and see what's feasible.

I'm insane.

I'm planning on ordering a cake for my daughter's 6th birthday at the CRT. I was confused about the frosting/cake topping. I noticed in a few posts, some people referred to the cake frosting as chocolate fondant but it looks more like chocolate ganache to me. Is there such a thing as chocolate fondant? I always thought fondant was only available in a marshmallow flavor. Also, for those that did use the chocolate ganache, was it soft or more tough? Would you recommend the chocolate buttercream over the ganache?

A friend of mine sent this picture to the Yacht & Beach Club Bakery and asked for something similar:

According to the person who posted that cake it was 8", done at the Contemporary for $130 ($100 for the cake, $30 for the Mickey). The price they gave my friend was $250 for the cake and $65 for the Mickey!!! She did finally get to talk to the Chef and he agreed to do something for $175. Luckily she had TIW and got the 20% off of that. She complained to the chef that Disney should really have some sort of standardized pricing, and he said they were working on it. I hope so! I'll ask her if it's okay to post a pic of the cake she got and if she says yes I'll be back to post.

Here's the cake I mentioned that my friend got delivered to the Yachtsman Steakhouse:

Thanks for posting! Of course I'm no expert, but I can't see what would make that Yacht Club cake cost $120 or even $45 more than the one from the Contemporary...:confused3

It occurred to me that you guys might be interested in seeing the wedding cakes, mini cakes and cupcakes made by the Grand Floridian for last weekend's Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings Bridal Showcase. I know they gave me lots of ideas for future special occasions!

After seeing the beautiful cakes online, I was so disappointed with what we received. Due to my last few weeks reservation, I was not able to get into the better restaurants, so my cake choices were limited. We had lunch reservations at The Plaza for our dd's 8th birthday .

first when calling the cake line, i was told I could only have the cake at the podium or order with her name on it.
I called again, after seeing others had other cakes there.
This time I had an option for an 8" choc or vanilla cake, choc or vanilla frosting, and filling, choice of disney character, and flowers.

Estatic, i was told it would be $39 I ordered vanilla cake, strawberry mousse filling, and chocolate frosting with Rapunzel on it and flowers.

When i got to the restaurant on our slip it showed the cake and $49 price. We had the worse server in the place that I could see , a man CJ who was horrible. didn't offer us the specials, very inattentive. so disappointed as i listened to the other servers. the kids meal came with a dessert and we weren't even offered it to go. well cake came, with 3 candles in it, 2 servers sing happy birthday and leave the cake with 3 small plates, and 3 sundae spoons. NO KNIFE. i sat there getting upset waiting for server to come back as my daughter couldn't even try her cake with Vanilla frosting. (not choc as ordered) the topper image was nice though the dark colors had run some on the white frosting. the gum paste flowers, 3 were broken. No waiter... we stopped another server and was told when he was finished with his table he would help us. now ten minutes has gone by. our server comes with the check and dumps it on the table. laughs and says oh you need a knife. well before getting the knife he stopped at 2 other tables! i was infuriated. comes back with a butter knife. i was under the impression they took the cake cut and served it.
so we struggle with the cake and try enjoying it, only to have our waiter just bother for the check to be paid.
the plates were smaller than the cake slices they were saucers.
when it was time to leave we had to ask for it to be boxed... and well, that didn't happen. he came and dumped the box on the table, for us to do ourself.

the cake itself, had wrong frosting, wrong price, broken flowers, tasted a bit stale, the filling was yummy.

we carried the cake with us for a few hours then threw it away as it was melting away in the heat.

I do not recommend getting a cake at The Plaza or even dining there. My lunch was ok. our dd's carrots were wizzled and old with black spots we were not given the choice of grapes instead like the tables near us.
birthday lunch at The Plaza was so horrid. much better the day prior at Rainforest cafe, and another evening at Fridays.

I know what you mean. Thank goodness for the TIW discount.

That teapot cake is to die for! My friend was next to David Tutera checking in at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Is that what he was there for?

OMG.....those cakes are beautiful!!!! So you can order just a 1 or 2 cupcakes for an occasion????? Interesting!! :goodvibes

All these cakes are amazing! I'm so overwhelmed! :)
I need some experienced Disney cake guidance!:worship:
We won a trip to Disney this summer and then week it is just happens to fall when we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary! YEA!
So, I would love to surprise the hubby with a cake. Nothing horribly expensive. We are staying at the contemporary, so if you were me, what would you think about ordering and where would you get it from? We would be better having something delivered to our room when we got in from the day's activities? HELP! :lovestruc

Except for the Magic Kingdom, where you can get a cake made by the Contemporary Bakery, you can't choose a bakery to make the cake you have in a theme park.

When you say the Contemporary will make a cake for the Magic Kingdom, do you mean only CRT, or can they do other restaurants, like Tony's?
