Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

After following the cake threads for months and debating on what kind of cake I wanted I contacted Pat at the Grand Floridian for the cake for my DD 4th birthday meal at 1900 Park Fair. Being that is was 9 months ago I found what I wrote about it on my PTR...

Well I did it... I ORDERED THE CAKE!!!!!

When the cake came out I was so happy! My daughters eyes lit up and my DW was so shocked that I ordered a cake! I thought it was a beautiful cake, but the problem wasn't with the looks. I was pretty disappointed with the taste of the cake. The frosting tasted like shortening, and the cake itself didn't taste like chocolate. It had a funky taste to it. While everyone did have a piece of cake, I didn't enjoy it like I thought I would.

I would try again for a cake but I think I would try a different bakery.

Tim

What a fabulous dad you are! The cake was beautiful. Sorry it didn't taste as good as it looks.

Ok - just scored ressies at Narcoossee's for my mother's birthday. She wants that darn chocolate mickey head cake LOL .. Will I be able to have that created for her and delivered there?

as soon as you pick POP, you will be on hold and transferred to a person to talk to. since i had a photo from this forum, the man gave me an email address to email it to and the person got back to me immediately telling me they would give me a quote in 24 hrs. it is not difficult at all.

I called the hotline - the prompter did not say anything about any of the restaurants in DTD but did say something about delivering to POP. Would I be able to order the Mickey Mouse shaped head cake and have it delivered to POP? There just seems to be so much uncertainty .. I really appreciate all your help. Thanks!

I called the cake hotline - picked POP and was transfered. They only offer the standard cakes that you can buy in the POP store?!?

Can that be right? Why would they even have an option on the cake hotline if you can't get a cake from them? You can only buy the store bought freezer cake out of the food court lol??

When I called they only offered me those SaraLee type cakes at first and then I said I was interested in a personalized cake. Then he started talking to me about what type of cake I was thinking about. Call again, and tell him that you would like a personalized cake.

Yes, it's a standard option. Just call the Cake Hotline and follow the prompts. If the restaurant doesn't know what you're talking about, you can call Private Dining and order it through them.

I called the cake hotline and asked for a custom cake based on a photo I saw on this forum. They had me email it to Kelly and she emailed me back and said they will give me a quote in a day or two. I asked for the cake to be white with the fruit mousse filling. It is the mickey cake with the fondant and the mickey white chocolate figure painted vs. plain on top of the cake wit the stars and such around it.

I made it very clear I did not want the Sara Lee cake that people are talking about!!!

Now by "personalized" do you mean "Have a name written on it" or "completely custom-decorated fancy fondant-covered cake"? Because any restaurant can write names on the standard cakes they offer.

Cape May can do either kind, but if you want a fancy fondant-covered one be sure you get in touch with Private Dining at the Yacht/ Beach Club and make your request known. If you just ask at the podium or call the Cake Hotline you're liable to get a standard supermarket-style cake frosted in buttercream.

Yay! Thanks for posting these! I'm so glad to see everything turned out exactly as you'd hoped!

I think we are going to end up doing DD's 8th birthday dinner @ Biergarten, a restaurant she loves. I am wondering if there is any way to get a special dessert served there, beyond the normal buffet options?

I'm a pretty big lurker here, but I find it kind of funny...

Do you guys, "the experts", get tired of answering the same questions over and over again??

I am sensing a pattern with the questions... :rotfl2:

Yes, you can get a simple, supermarket-style 6-inch or 8-inch cake by calling the Cake Hotline (see first post).

I dunno if I'm an expert, more like someone who's WAAAAAY too interested in cake, but yes! I guess sometimes the questions that show up here were originally posted elsewhere and merged into this thread by the mods, so the poster never saw the info-packed first post in this thread.

But still... SO many questions can be answered by reading the first post! :teeth:

Agreed! LOL. Oh well, at least you are willing to answer every time! I give you loads of credit. :thumbsup2

Can you get a cool cake at Old Key West? I am wanting something Christmasy. I can pick it up at Olivia's since I know they don't have room service but can you even get something half way decent there? If not where would my other options be? I want it to be a surprise for the kids on the day we get there so I don't want to travel all over the "World" to get it.

TIA
Vicki

Call OKW and ask to speak to Carol. They will do a fancy cake that you can pick up at the podium. The Boardwalk Bakery is the place that will make your cake. Carol was very helpful with my cake.
