I absolutely love your minnie mouse cake!!!!! $143 seems good for a madhatter style with a painted minnie statue! I may have to go with the Boardwalk for my son's birthday cake next month......

Did you have the minnie cake at 1900 Park Fare? Did you pick it up at the Boardwalk and bring it over yourself?

Yes best price out of all the bakeries on property.Yes I did pick it up and take it with us to 1900 Park Fare.I ordered the cake from the Boardwalk Bakery not knowing for sure if we wanted it for dessert after one of our dinners or just to have it for our room (AKV Kidani 2 bedroom). When the cake was ready for pickup we decided we would bring it to the GF for our 1900 Park Fare dinner. We picked it up around 4:15pm on Thursday and while I was walking back up to the valet area I advised my wife to go up to the front desk and have them call 1900 PF to find out if we can bring it over early as our ressie was for 5:55 pm. My wife came into the car saying that nobody picked up the phone at 1900 PF and the people at the BW front desk said just go over it shouldn't be a problem...boy was that a wrong statement. We drive over to GF and I head inside cake in tow while everyone else stayed in the car. I walked right up to the 1900 PF check in desk and explain to the 3 ladies at the desk I just picked up the cake and would like to store the cake until our dinner.Well that's when I heard all about the FDA rule and that I'm bringing in a outside item..outside item I bought it from the BWB a Disney owned property just like the GF.They were telling me about peanut/dairy allergies and again the FDA rule but afraid of making a decision they called a manager. The manager came over and I explained the situation all over again and she started to explain what the 3 ladies expained at which point I stopped her in mid sentence telling her I heard it from the ladies. She then told me that if there was a empty refrigerator that would probably be the only way the Chef would store it.So she went to go see the Chef.Meanwhile I said to myself....WHAT...if there is a empty referigerator they might be able to store it for what I need at this point 1 hour of storage.I waited and then through the doors comes the manager and I could tell by her face she was afraid to tell me what she had to tell me as it wasn't going to be what I wanted to hear. She said there was no empty refrigerators so the Chef said no.Funny how this works, if I paid a $75 delievery charge (half the cost of the cake) they would have stored it with no problem (with no empty refrigerators:confused3) even though the cake was "brought in from the outside" and not only that they would have brought it out after dinner as dessert as a surprise for everyone else in our party to enjoy.Instead I had to take the cake back to the room to put it into our refrigerator so we all could shower and get ready to go back for our 5:55pm ressie.Well we were late for dinner by about 25 mins and I had the cake in tow once again to notice that the ladies at 1900 PF check in were happy to see that the little issue didn't stop us from coming to dinner. As they seated us I asked our waitress Melissa (from our part of the country NY/NJ..:yay:) if I could have a cake platter for the center of the table. She had heard about what had happened earlier as most of the staff did and was more than happy to help out.The wait staff was wonderful as they gave us extra plates, forks and when I asked for a cake sever I received 3 of them. We shared the cake with whomever wanted a piece.I was asked more than once if it was someone's birthday and if the cake came from the GF bakery.I told anyone who asked we are just celebrating being in Disney and proudly saying the cake was created by Chef Christy at the Boardwalk Bakery and I did walk it in.....Would I do it all over again.....YES...:woohoo:

So we will be at the world Sept 25-Oct 3 celebrating the 31st birthdays of twin friends at Boma's on the 26th. As a surprise we (their mom, another friend and I) decided to order them a specialty cake. So we order a 12inch round yellow cake with bavarian cream filling covered in fondant decorated with sugar flowers and with Timon and Pumbaa in a Lion King theme of sort. We just confirmed the order today:banana: like 30 mins ago. I'm hoping it turns out the way we are wanting it to look and taste. Fingers crossed we will soon find out. I will post pictures as soon as we get back or if I think of it I can post while we're down....stay tuned
I forgot when we called to get quote on this cake they called us back and said it would cost $75...so totally can't wait to see this cake

I guess that it is who you talk to. I went off resort for a cake after they told me they couldn't do a fancy fondant cake.

I just ordered a cake for DD 5th bday Oct. 5th and I heard back from Brian almost immediately. He did have to instruct me to physically order the cake we discussed and gave me the # to call. I believe I emailed him Friday afternoon and Saturday morning I had a return email from him. Hope this helps

Sorry to have to ask this...but could you or anyone else pm me chef brians email. I still haven't heard back and now am wondering what on earth is wrong with the email I have!!! Any help would be great

I am looking to order an anniversary cake to surprise my husband. Our wedding cake was originally made by the Grand Floridian Bakery. I want marble cake with white chocolate mousse but since I live locally I have been thinking of picking it up at the Boardwalk Bakery. My question is do they use the same recipe as the Grand Floridian Bakery? I really want it to taste the same as my wedding cake but I don't want to pay the $75 delivery fee and I don't really want to dine at Grand Floridian. Thanks!

I have my fingers crossed for Joie as I cringe to think of how my "Lion King" themed cake from AKV turned from that I ordered last December. I still grumble when I think of that thing. :sad2:

The cake will taste the same, but you have a better chance of it looking like your wedding cake if you get it from GF b/c they will pull your BEO to refer to the design. (If that's important to you.)

I have heard of people being able to pick up GF Bakery cakes by having them delivered to Gasparilla Grill or even the front desk, so you might want to investigate that. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much! I'll call them next week to discuss all the options. How exciting! =)

I emailed him twice. No response to the first email, but then he emailed me back after the second almost immediately.

Hi everyone! I lurk on this thread because I love cakes

I got curious about the mad hatter cake and wondered if that style was copyrighted. Maybe the staff member was talking about the character but maybe it was deeper... :cool2:

I just popped over and asked some of my caking buddies as this had been a hotly debated item. This is what they said about copyright of Mad Hatter style of cakes. Said caking buddies are from all over the world. The name Mad hatter is copyrighted (presumably by the folks who did Alice and Wonderland). People have come up with other terms to describe this style cake - topsy turvey or tipsy or whimiscal cake as a substitute of this phrase. There was conversation that someone (Polly something or other???) has copyrighted the actual name "whimsy cake" so that one really shouldn't be used by anyone other than her when advertising or marketing this style. But I have seen it everywhere and used interchangeably.

I would think if you referred to it as something other than Mad Hatter you should be ok.

Or... maybe it was the character she was referring to.

BTW, I stopped at Boardwalk Bakery during my trip and it was divine. Picked up a cake or two to enjoy for a couple of birthdays. Lovely shop!

 Really? Is it REALLY that important what someone calls a cake? I just think that's kinda crazy to EVEN worry about something that small. It's not like anyone on HERE is actually selling the cakes.

Ice Cube, thank you so much for your reply. We will definitely keep this in mind when ordering!! :) Only a month to go! party:

My wife and I are traveling to the World on September 24th for her 27th Birthday. I would like to surprise her with a nice small birthday cake from Disney. We will be staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort and will not have a car to go pick anything up. At best I might be able to catch a quick cab ride somewhere close to CBR. Her party theme that I am setting up is Cinderella, with the purple, white and light blue colors. I already talked to the Food and Beverage department at the resort and they gave me information about the basic cakes that they could provide. Do you all have any suggestions on how I could make this a great surprise and present her with a beautiful cake? Im looking to only spend less than $70 as I can have a local company build a Cinderella Doll cake with Fondant, with delivery and tax for $68. Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Michael

If you own the intellectual property, it's not trivial. And some people are actually interested in concepts of whether you can copyright (or probably trademark, actually) the style of a cake or its name/description, and whether Disney has bothered to try.

Do you have any ADRs at the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Beach & Yacht, or Boardwalk? They can do custom cakes for delivery to the restaurants.

If you're going to other Disney restaurants, you can pre-order the Large Mickey Head for $48.

You can order a cake through the Boardwalk Bakery for pick-up. Some people have had luck with the bakery delivering to the food courts at moderates. You would have to speak to the Bakery directly to see if that's possible and at what cost.

If you do go to one of the Grand FLoridian restuarants, you can order Cinderella's chocolate slipper which is inexpensive.

Which off-property companying were you thinking of using?

After constant searching and thinking and even posting a few months back for input, we have decided on DD's cake! She wants the large Minnie Head cake!! So glad to have that figured out! So I just need to call about two weeks out for that to have it delivered to 1900 Park Fare right?

We do not have reservations at any of those resorts. I want the cake delivered to the room so we dont have to carry it from place to place. Already ordered the chocolate slipper at CRT, still looking for a cake though. Looking at Butter cakes as the outside company.

Thanks....I read about your experience with the lion king cake....I was kinda leary to order it but that is what was requested by my friend's mother for her twin boys birthday cake. When we talked to the chef they were gonna get it from another resort instead of making in house I guess....I'm not sure but fingers crossed I will let you know

If anyone has the email for Pat over at the GF, please PM me! I ordered 2 cakes from her (one for each nephew) and want to make sure she understood what I was trying to explain I wanted. She wasn't sure who the Evil Queen was (Snow White) so I was planning on emailing her a picture of her as this is my oldest nephew's favorite villain (she kept on asking me, which evil queen, so I'm a bit concerned). Thanks in advance!

If you already have a line on a local place that can make and deliver one at that price (and you've seen a picture of exactly what it'll look like) I say go with them and save yourself the hassle, money and potential heartache of trying to get what you want from Disney. $70 will only get you a very basic fondant cake from Disney, and the experiences on this board have been so mixed that you'll really be taking your chances on whether you get a cake that A) looks like you expected and B) tastes any good. Plus, you'll have to jump through a lot of hoops if you want to get one delivered to a non-Deluxe resort.

Now you might get lucky if someone at Coronado Springs' private dining will help you order one from BoardWalk Bakery and get it delivered, so you might want to start by calling CS and asking to speak with private dining.

This was the cake we ordered for my husbands birthday at Narcoossee's in August. It was an 8 inch white cake with strawberry filling and it was delicious!
