Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

Wow! Are the decorations entirely made out of fondant? Do you mind posting how much it cost, what the flavor choices were, what size it was, etc. for the benefit of the Cake Photo Thread, which your post will eventually be transfered to? Thanks!

No problem. I was very specific with what I asked for. I gave them a $200 budget and told them there was to be no chocolate. My son will not eat chocolate!:headache: The inside was a white cake with vanilla mousse filling. It was actually one of the best cakes we've ever had. It was ssoooo moist and not too sweet. Yes, all of the decorations were made of fondant. The bottom layer was 10", if I remember correctly and then there was a 6" layer on top that "Space Mountain" was built around so it was actually a two tier cake. He still has the car in the refrigerator after six months!!:rotfl: Oh, and I requested that the bottom be blue fondant because he's a UNC Tarheels fan and it's his favorite color.

I've ordered a Pirate cake for our upcoming May trip and they sent me a picture that is already posted here on this thread. I'm hoping they change it a little bit so it's not exactly the same cake.

This is the cake we ordered last August from private dining at Yacht & Beach Club and had delivered to the Yachtsman Steakhouse for my son's 10th birthday. I just never got around to posting it. I thought they did a great job. Space Mountain is his favorite ride so I asked for a Space Mountain cake.

:thumbsup2 That is a great looking cake and I believe it is the first Space Mountain cake that I've seen on here.

After reading this thread and all the others...a day and then some of reading. I want a cake that will be a "speciality" cake to feed 3 adults and 4 kids with a Star Wars theme. Something like the Jedi Mickey that is shown on the gallery. Anyone else have any other designs they are willing to share?

We are dining with Chip and Dale in Epcot the night we arrive for the birthday celebration. Am I right in understanding that I can NOT have a speciality cake delivered to this location? If not, anyone recommend the celebration cupcake instead of the podium cake? Do they even offer the celebration cupcake anymore? Would they delivery to Sci Fi Dine In if not Garden Grill? It's Star Wars Weekend when we are going and I want to make it all the more special with this cake.

Thanks!

Question!

(Because I may have just had a fabulous idea!)

I love, love, love the Haunted Mansion Cake! It's absolutely beautiful!! (My family's favorite ride is Haunted Mansion!)

I had planned for us to eat at CRT on our MNSSHP day. Can I order the Haunted Mansion cake from Brian at the Contemporary to be delivered to the CRT?

If so, can I do it (cake + delivery) for under or right at $100?

Thanks so much!!

Oh, also, how far in advance do you need to order?

Hi, again!!

I asked the above earlier, but I think it got "lost"! :)

Anyway, after some further reading, I think I can answer my own questions!

I need to call Private Dining at the Contemporary and ask for Chef Brian? And then I can talk to/email him directly about the particular cake I want (the Haunted Mansion one). I can also ask him about delivery options to CRT.

But two more questions (there are always more questions, you know!)...

How far in advance do I need call the Contemporary?

And have I missed the number for Private Dining somewhere? Or, would I just call the Contemporary & ask to be connected?

Thank you!!

Another thread so useful it's hard to find the exact info you're looking for! :lmao:

So I'm going to be annoying and just ask right out:

We're staying at ASMu so no getting a cake there.

Won't be doing CRT so that's not an option.

Do have an ADR at Marrakesh but, if I understand correctly, they don't deliver cakes to the paks so that's not an option either?? Or is it that the cake is just something they have on hand at the restaurant and isn't a special cake? A bit uncertain about this.

So the only other option is Boardwalk Bakery? I've seen this question posted several times but have yet to see an answer to it: What are the hours that one can pick up a cake at Boardwalk Bakery? We'll be at Epcot that first night - park closes at 9 - and I could make a side trip to the Bakery *if* it is open for pickup - and take the cake back to ASMu myself on the bus - not very special but that would be my last option before just giving up on the whole idea.

FYI - it's our 20th wedding anniversary that I'm looking to celebrate this trip.

Right—no specialty cakes available inside Epcot. The cupcake would be better than the cake simply because it's free—it tastes the same as the cake. People are still reporting getting celebration cupcakes, but it seems to be at the discretion of the server. DHS has the same problems with cake availability as the other theme parks (except MK, cuz it's serviced by the Contemporary Bakery)—your choices are limited to the choc/choc or vanilla/vanilla cakes with no customization other than a screen print.

About 2 weeks out.

Correct - Epcot just has standard choc/choc or vanilla/vanilla cakes with whipped cream frosting, sprinkles and maybe a screen print, if you want to pay more.

Oh, it's in here—it's just impossible to find! :lmao:

6:30am-11:00pm

Congrats on your 20th anniversary! :goodvibes

Thank you!

So now I have to decide - restaurant simple cake or make a special trip to Boardwalk Bakery and pick it up myself, but have no special surprise with it. It's not like I can smuggle a cake back to the room without hubby noticing.

Opinions?

Lurkyloo-Thank you!

I have heard GREAT things about Brian at the Contemporary Bakery. What about the Grand Floridan Bakery? Which is better? I need to know this for my reservation because if Grand Floridan is just as good as Brian we will be dining at 1900 Park Fare. If not, we will be going to 'Ohana. Also, anyone have any AMAZING Star Wars cake photos?

Do they have a gluten free option? If so, is it any good?

I wanted to post this on the cake pic thread- but its closed for some reason- hope its ok to post here.....

Just got back from WDW. DH surprised me with a birthday cake of ARIEL at LE CELLIER-

I am pretty sure it was a 10 inch. DH asked for a vanilla cake with the vanilla frosting, with Ariel on it. They included the white chocolate shavings to the outside of the cake which DH didn't ask for (but it was great). I loved that the brown writing was actually chocolate- The entire cake was GREAT. Not dry in the slightest, and certainly not frozen.

Price was $32 and worth every penny

The GF and Contemporary seem to be pretty evenly matched in quality of decoration (and all the cakes on Disney property tare made from the same recipes, so the taste doesn't vary). The nice thing about the Contemporary is you can communicate directly with Chef Brian, whereas at the GF everything goes thru Private Dining.

I remember someone posting on this thread last year that they'd tried the gluten-free cake and it was just so-so, but since cake is sorta all about gluten, I'd imagine it would be pretty hard to replicate the taste without it.

Thanks!! Now I just have to be patient & wait... ;) I've even got my DH (who could take or leave cake) excited about the possibility of getting a Haunted Mansion cake!

By the way, your wedding pics are gorgeous!!

Additional questions:

At the Boardwalk Bakery - are the cakes shown in post #2 available there? Meaning, can they make any specialty cake or are there limitations as to size, type of decoration, type of cake, type of filling at that bakery?

I'm about 80% decided that I will order a cake at the BB and pick it up that first night we are there to take back to our room and have all week long (or however long it lasts!). But I want to have some idea what sort of cakes they offer before I go getting my heart set on something I cannot have.

Thank you.

To order the slipper desserts for dinner at CRT , do I call the Cake Hot Line !!Iwill neded 2 for DGDS 16th birthday in August !! Do they offer choices of white chocolate or regular and different mousses !!??

This cake looks so much nicer than the cake we got at Biergarten. We only got 1 layer (no filling) for $41. Hopefully, they got enough complaints to change the Epcot cakes.

I've had some really awesome gluten free cakes. It's time for Disney to step up! ;)

Does anyone know if you can order a cake without phoning the hotline? I mean via email really :)
You see, my phone bill comes monthly, and I don't want my parents to know i'm ordering a cake for them! If a US number shows up on the bill, they'll know something's up..

Have you thought about using Skype? If you have a computer with a microphone, you can buy a few minutes for your Skype account and then you can call any number in the US. Or possibly get a calling card with a free phone number to call which will then transfer you to the US. Both way there wouldn't be a US number on your phone bill. :goodvibes

Not that I know of. I would just borrow someones cell phone or use a pay phone.

Good luck!

Hi everyone. We're staying at the BC end of May-beginning of June and wanted to order from the Beach Club private dining for a custom cake. I was trying to think of something different than Mickey or Minnie and my daughter loves Bolt. I looked all over but hadn't seen anyone else post a pic of one, so has anyone ever seen a Bolt cake?

And have you all had good luck with the BC bakery?
