Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

Hi everyone, great cake threads. A little back ground on me. DH and I got married at WDW in May 2008. In May 2009 we went back for our first Ann. I had the GF bakery re-make our top layer of our wedding cake. Which was very yummy. In fact I had packed tupperware in our luggage so that when we got the cake we could take some into the parks each day. Which we ended up really enjoying. We had a backpack cooler with us and put the cake in there(in the tupperware lol) which nicely chilled the cake and it was sooo good.

With FD in late Aug, we are able to do one last WDW trip before DH starts his PhD in Sept. This is a cheap trip, but I am trying gather info on ordering another cake. Hopefully cheaper then last time which was $75.00 and we picked it up at GF.

We are not fans of fondant, so we could careless if we had it or not. What we like is the choc cake with peanut butter cup mousse. Is there a cheap way to get this? Oh and I forget the size we had last time, Im guessing it was 8".

If fondant is the way to go, I was looking through the threads to see if anyone has done a Pop Century Hotel cake or a Rubik's Cube? I didn't find one, if anyone has a photo of one they are willing to share, that would be wonderful.

Why Pop or Rubik's Cube? We are staying at Pop so it would give me a theme. Rubik's Cube also fits the Pop theme. And I want it to be something DH would really think is cool. He's a computer geek and likes Rubik;s Cube and commented about them at Pop. I looked at photos on line of computers, to tie into his PhD, but all looked like it would cost to much to have done.

DH isn't that huge of a Disney fan other wise I have a character to choose from. But he does like the rides Toy Story Mania, Buzz Light Year Astroblasters and Splash Mt(mostly because he likes to tease me about getting wet lol) He likes other rides too, but those are the ones he request first. lol

Any info you have would be great. Thank you.

Just got back Sunday night. I ordered a 10 inch cake for my DD's 7th birthday and wanted it to be served at Ohana on our last night.

I ordered chocolate cake, dark choc. mousse filling and choc. buttercream frosting and also asked for Snow white to be on the cake.

I ordered about a few weeks in advance.....it cost me $45 for the cake. Here are the pics....

It tasted pretty good, but it was cold. I usually like my cake a little warm, but not too cold. I probly won't order a cake again anytime soon as the price is a bit steep but it is disney afterall.

I'm taking the family to Whispering Canyon for our "arrival" day dinner...there's 6 adults and 3 kids and we're all "celebrating" something. I was wondering if anyone knew about cake options here? Are they available to request when we get there or is it a pre-order type thing? Thanks! :thumbsup2

I am wanting to order the chocolate slipper for my mom's birthday at the Garden View Tea in three weeks. I have been searching for info, and I believe I am supposed to call the GF Bakery to order this, but I can't find the number anywhere. Do I call the regular cake hotline instead? Does someone have the number to the GF bakery?

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

If you can't find it I would suggest calling the Grand Floridian directly. I just got back from my trip and I was very disappointed with my order that I had placed for a cake months ago from the grand floridian bakery. They lost my order the cake didnt show up until we were literally paying the bill and than they expected me to pay for it. Everyone had left it was awful. :headache:

Irishtigger - I am sorry that you had a bad experience. :sad2:

I tried calling the GF, and the lady I spoke with says that there is no "number" for the bakery. She connected me with Food and Beverage, and all I got was a voicemail. Hopefully that person will call back, and I can get this taken care of.

Does anyone know how I can contact the BW bakery? I am going to be there with DH over Memorial day weekend for his b-day and would love to pick up a special cake. How do i order this? Through the cake hotline? The bakery itself?

Thank you!

Has anyone ever had a cake made for dinner at Whispering Canyon? We are having our arrival dinner there and I was wondering if I should order ahead, or if I should call and see about a special order?:confused3

Do you think this combination would be good?

Almond cake, bavarian creme filling with fresh strawberries.

I'm going to try to get a custom cake for my DH for our 10 year anniversary. I have ordered cakes from the GF before, and they have all been delicious, but I've always done vanilla cake with white choc. buttercream. I want something a bit different this time.

Would love your opinions. Thanks!

Sounds delish to me!:goodvibes What kind of frosting are you going with? Can I suggest ganache? That would be absolutely heavenly!:cloud9:

Chocolate Cake with Strawberry Creme Mousse filling is a surprisingly yummy combination! :thumbsup2

Does anyone know if Boardwalk Bakery can make a choc cake with peanut butter cup mousse? If they can is it like what you get from the Grand Floridian Bakery?

They can do individual cupcakes or the 6 inch cake. You can request it at check in

It's not on the list of flavors on their cake-ordering sheet, although they do make it for Escape Wedding cakes, so maybe if you pushed, you could get it.

The thing is, they already sell a peanut butter-chocolate cake slice at BoardWalk Bakery that is WAY better than either pb-choc cake I've had from the Grand Floridian Bakery. I just don't know if you could get them to make it as a whole cake/fancy, decorated cake. It's worth asking, though! :thumbsup2

Sorry, that happened to you. That would be very disappointing.

I think situations like this are the reason they ask people to call no more than 2 weeks out. The longer the orders lay around the more likely there will be a problem. I know people are excited & want to get everything taken care of early, but that seems to backfire when the cakes are concerned.

I see some of you have had problems with the cakes. I had a little problem too. I got a little nervous when I arrived at Ohana at the podium. When I mentioned that I ordered a cake a few weeks ago, the lady looked on her screen and had no idea what I was talking about. She said she didn't see it on there at all.

I started to worry that they never made my cake and she told me she would look into it.

Throughout the meal, I had no idea if she found out anything or if they made the cake at all. Thank goodness, the server brought the cake out in the end or I would have been so disappointed.

Just got off the phone with Sally, ordered the HM cake for Father's Day! I will call that Sunday evening for it to be delivered to the room. Ordering process could not have been easier! I told her that I saw the cake on Disboads, she remembered the first HM cake for a wedding anniversary. Thanks to everyone for the info.
