Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

I've read some questions about this lately and wanted to share my experience from last night.

A few DIS-ers and my family were taking an Illuminations cruise. Because we arrived 2 weeks earlier, I offered to take care of the cake. Then I totally forgot to call & order it until Weds (right at the 48 hr window).

I called Y&B private dining, told them I wanted an 8" inch cake. Options - as you know- were chocolate cake, mouse filling and choc icing or white cake, white chocolate filling and buttercream icing. I chose chocolate.

Because there were 3 people celebrating events, I asked if they could write Congratulations to one and Happy Anniversary to the others. That's all I asked for. Nothing else. They quoted $43 (which included $32 for the cake plus gratuity, delivery & tax). The cake was on the decorated boat when we arrived last night. I didn't even take a look at it - was just happy it had been delivered.

Later before the fireworks when we were tied up under the bridge, I opened the cake box and was surprised and really delighted - it was so much nicer than I'd ever expected. There were strawberries, and cookies made of icing which propped up a scroll which included everything I asked them to write. The icing was ganache. It was beautiful and best yet, it was moist and really yummy :goodvibes

The captain had forks, napkins, a knife and plates onboard. As the person who cut the cake and had to transfer the slices to the plates while the boat rocked, I have one suggestion: bring some sort of cake server. I had some slices fall over and the icing ended up on the side of the plates (which ended up on DS white shorts). Otherwise, it was the easiest, best cake experience I've had (and I've also gotten cakes from Narcoossee's & Boardwalk Bakery).

Hope this helps anyone planning to order a cake for a cruise - especially one who waits til the very last minute.

Happy cruising! :boat:

Hi all!! :goodvibes My daughter will be celebrating her 8th birthday on May 26, our first day in Disney. We are staying at the Boardwalk, and I would like to order a cake from the Boardwalk Bakery as a surprise. How do I go about doing this? Is there a website to show available choices? Or do I need to call the bakery itself? I want to do this before we leave so that it is ready when we arive!! Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!

Thank you!!! I bet that is what he's going to do (without the fondant I hope - we didn't talk about that!).

If it's important to you not to have fondant, definitely talk to him about it because they will almost certainly use fondant (well, unless they use ganache...). However, if it matters, the fondant always has buttercream under it, so it's not like you'll be left with dry cake after the fondant comes off. :thumbsup2

Thanks. I planned on calling again this upcoming week to reconfirm everything. We had the ganache on our cake from the GFC and I wasn't a fan at all so I'd rather have the fondant that I can peel off. I'll make sure I mention that when I call to reconfirm. :goodvibes

I've looked at the order forms and then at the cake photos. Some of them have exotic fillings like passionfruit mousse or choc peanut butter cup. I don't see where you can find out the filling options. :confused3

That's because the filling options vary by bakery. You have to speak with someone at the resort where the cake will be made to know what your choices are. The Grand Floridian offers the most variety, but even then sometimes they give you guff about certain flavors only being available for wedding cakes, or some such nonsense... :sad2:

If you look on the first page of this thread, there's a link to the previous cake thread, and the first page of that one lists all the flavors available at the Grand Floridian. Like I said, they may say they won't do some of them, but at least you'll get an idea of what might be possible.

What, is that like a secret handshake, or something? :rotfl:
Good to know....

From the way it reads, which is hardly a good indicator I know :), it seems to me like they have had incidents where guests don't realize how much a custom/fancy cake costs.

I called a the cake line a few days ago to order a cake for Crystal Palace for my son's birthday. I was asked for the confirmation number and what size I wanted. I asked if I could have the Mickey Head Cake. She said yes asked if I wanted white or chocolate and told me to enjoy my stay. I did not get any confirmation number on the cake just told I would pay for it with our meal. Is it really that easy? Should I call and confirm or have a confirmation number.

Thanks!

I was wondering if anyone could help me withinfo for ordering a cake for DGS's 12th birthday. We are taking him to WDW for his birthday over Star Wars weekend since he is a big Star Wars fan. He wants his birthday dinner at Mama Melrose and I have gotten reservations there for him. When I made the reservation I was asked if I wanted a 6 inch cake and I have tentatively ordered one but it is nothing special and I would really like to surprise him with a Star Wars cake if at all possible, but I am not quite sure where to order it from or how to go about this for Mama Melrose. Any info or suggestions anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We are eating at Chef Mickeys. I am wanting to get me and my husband an anniversary cake. I am wanting to stay around $50. - 60.00 . Obviously dont mind to spend less. Any suggestions on what type to ask for. (size, design) I have tried to read this thread but I still need some advice.

Also I was wanting to get my boys the pirate chest cakes for $15.00 each. Any idea if these come in chocolate.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Call contemp. Private dining and ask for the custom cake email. They will help you from there!

I would like to get a cake but the last cake we had at home we ate less than 1/3 of. I would love to have a nice Minnie mouse themed cake but since there is only 2 of us does not justifly it. Another option is the rice krispie Minnie mouse.

Does anyone know how you would (or even IF you could) go about getting a cake delivered to your room if you are staying at CORONADO SPRINGS?

I don't even know if this is possible. If not, would I have to arrange to have a cake at one of our TS reservations?

thanks!!!!!

Anyone ever brought their own topper?
" " to CRT?

There was a pic of a gorgeous Cinderella cake from CRT on the cake gallery thread. Whoever ordered that cake brought in their own topper. The link is in the first page of this thread.:goodvibes

I've also seen another cake on the gallery thread too that had a topper someone had brought in with them. I can't recall what cake it was though.:goodvibes

ETA: The pic of the cake from CRT with the topper is on the first page of the cake gallery thread, post #10.

Yep. It's that easy. As long as you gave your dining confirmation number, it will be tied to your reservation. I would just remind your server when you are seated. Enjoy your trip and your cake!

There is a Star Wars Jedi Mickey cake in the Cake Gallery. Did you see it? It looks awesome! Go back to the first post in this thread and click on the link in the test for the Cake Pictures. Then just scroll through until you find it. It is a chocolate cake with a Mickey on top wearing a Jedi outfit and brandishing a light saber. Very cute!

Thanks! I had forgotten about the Cinderella cake, but I remember it now that I see the pics again. So pretty! We'll be doing something a lot more simple, but will most likely be bringing our own topper too.

If you want one of the standard cakes, yes, it really is that easy. :thumbsup2 The difficult part is if you want a fancy cake with fondant and elaborate decorations.

You don't need a confirmation number, but definitely mention it at the podium when you arrive and to your server so they don't forget to bring it out.

If you want a cake similar to the Star Wars one mentioned by the previous poster, you will have a much better chance of getting it at a resort restaurant (specifically Yacht & Beach Club or any of the Monorail resorts). The theme park bakeries are not equipped to create cakes with fondant or elaborate decorations. If you're OK with a screen print on a whipped cream-frosted cake, then you'll be fine at Mama Melrose.

Call Coronado Springs and ask to speak to someone in Private Dining (aka room service) about your options for having a cake delivered. :)
