As Christine pointed out, the cake in your picture may not have been covered in fondant. It looks kinda glossy, like maybe white chocolate ganache? That would reduce the price considerably. However, if you do go with fondant, then the estimate she gave you is right on. They do have a universal pricing policy now, and Disney's been charging upwards of $100 for fondant-covered cakes in the last couple of years.

Also, if you can send the pastry chef that picture, she might be able to think of ways to create the cake less expensively—she was just going on your description over the phone. For example, you may not need to cover it in fondant to get that look, which would reduce the price.

Good luck! :thumbsup2

We ordered a beautiful fondant, Cindy..last September. The prices are standard and yours appear to be in line.

Thanks for the responces guys! :goodvibes I did ask her if it would be possible to do buttercream or something other than fondant to cover the cake (and lower the price), and she said that because I want fondant minnie silouets on there, they wouldn't be able to stick to anything other than fondant.
It would be great if I could send her the link to the cake that I have here, but at this point, I'm just going to leave it alone.

Just one other question - I'm getting a 6in cake for 6 people, and the cost of the cake itself is $32. If I call back and ask for an 8in cake, does anyone know what the cost difference will be? I'm already paying so much for this cake, I would hate for it to be to small for everyone to enjoy!!!

I had an 8 inch cake for 7 people, (see above post) and we only finished half. Hope this helps!

Believe me—you don't need an 8-inch cake for 6 people. Disney is very generous with its estimates on these things, and you would have to be cutting everyone dictionary-sized slabs to run out of cake. :thumbsup2

Awesome, thanks! When I asked the AK chef, she told me it would be enough, but only if we kept the slices super small.....

has anyone ever gotten an ice cream birthday cake delivered to their room at WDW???? We'll be going and it's my brother in laws birthday and he ONLY eats ice cream cake and tapioca pudding..... (as far as deserts go...) Thanks for any help.

Hi! Love seeing everyones beautiful cakes! Just wondering if there would be any way to order a "Welcome" cake to our room at Poly?:rotfl:

Well I did it, I ordered a cake, well 2 cakes. I originally was going to order 1 10 in cake to celebrate our 10th anniversary and my 40th birthday. When I called, they talked me into to 2 cakes, the 2 tier Wedding Cake (4 in bottom and 2 in top) for our anniversary and a 6 in for my birthday. She said the Wedding Cake will be white cake and white frosting. The 6 in cake will be white cake with fruit filling and topped with chocolate ganache. I am leaving the decorations up to them. Total is $46 for both cakes

They did call me back, to verify the price because I was quoted wrong. The total for both cakes is $52

Where are you having these cakes delivered/served? I definitely subscribe to the belief that the only thing better than a yummy cake is TWO yummy cakes! :rotfl:

I wanted to post the pics of the cakes I had made from our trip, but I have no idea how. Call me stupid but it needs a link. How ?

That is a great price! Can I ask--Where did you call to arrange for these? You might have answered that already but I am overwhelmed by this thread!

!!!! Last day at Disney was yesterday and my sister surprised me with a Lion King cake (red velvet with cream cheese filling) at Narcoossee's!! I will post pictures when I return home from FL!

You upload the pictures to a site like Photobucket and then there will be an IMG code that you copy and paste into your comments. With Photobucket there is even a code for a clickable code (the image will appear in your post as little but when someone clicks on it they will see a larger picture).

Here are my cakes!!

The first was my sons bday cake. I only have 1 pic with the ear on. As soon as it came out he broke it off! The "hat" on top of the cake was suppose to be a real hat, but they actually made it out of chocolate. The manager came by to say that he thought the cake was amazing and ask how we liked it. I said I loved it but that the fake hat was the only "issue". By the end of the meal...Luke had his ears!! So great service. We dined at Coral Reef. I hade Yacht and Beach make it. No they do not deliver, but we had something special set up. It was a 10 inch and we shared with the kid at the next table as well as the staff in the back!! 95.00 and worth every penny of it!

My cake the amazing Brian did. Our 8th anniversary at the castle. Red velvet with chocolate ganache. It was sooo good. The wording I provided and told him it had to have bronze/copper roses. The 8th anniversary is bronze/copper and we did a rose ceremony at our wedding so we wanted it included. The cake is almost identicle to our actual wedding cake, but tasted and looked 1000 times better! I guess it is better the 2nd time around!:rotfl2: This was 6 inch and it was $65.00.

I was wondering if any of you have seen or have photos of a Lady and the Tramp Cake? Also, who would deliver to Tony's - would it be the Contemporary or the Grand Floridian? Thank you!

Cake at the Wave for my bridesmaids

Arranged through the Contemporary Resort

The only info I gave them was pink and girlie for my bridesmaids and they did a great job. In case you are wondering what the white ribbons on the bottom are, they are cake pulls. They also inserted the cake pulls on the bottom under the cake after it was baked but before it was decorated. Each had a charm to tell something about each girl's "future". Just a cute extra. :cloud9:

Hhhmm....may enlist the help of some of you for design ideas for our anniversary cake at the Yachtsman on 9/18. Definitely want to have something special made.

For now I have a single question:

How realistic could a single long-stem rose be made out of edible materials (gum paste, sugar, modeling chocolate, etc.)? Can't be the traditional cake rose. Nope. Only long-stem. Just in case an edible long-stem rose isn't an option, does anyone know if it'd be possible to have a fresh one laid across the top? The rose element would be key. If I can't do a rose then that changes the whoooole design direction altogether. :thumbsup2

DD's 7th birthday was June 25th. I wanted to do something special -- and we (that is, my mother and I) have always wanted to order a special cake for her.

This year, DD is into Rapunzel big time (like apparently all the other little girls seem to be...) Mom wanted me to call Pat at the GF since we had ADRs at 1900 Park Faire that evening, but all I could think about was hauling that heavy cake around at least back to the resort.

So, instead, I called Private Dining at the CBR and asked for it to be delivered to our room between 8 and 9 that evening. It was made by the Boardwalk Bakery.

Here is the sketch I emailed:
CakeSketch.jpg

And the description I gave:
Vanilla cake with chocolate filling.
Light purple (lavender) with a _Tangled_ theme.

Border: braid to simulate Rapunzel's hair. I was thinking more of the allusion to Rapunzel than actually having an image of Rapunzel on the cake. In the movie, her hair is EVERYwhere...so I was thinking of a yellow/golden (i.e.: blonde) braid that wraps around the top edge, falls down the back of the cake, and possibly goes around the bottom edge as a border. In the sketch, I have pink bows every so often, but I think there is a scene where she has tiny, two-dimensional purple flowers stuck all along her hair.

Top: The magic flower. In the movie, there is only a single flower, so I put the single flower in the sketch. It has some greenery, but otherwise was always alone. I also put Pascal (the chameleon) on top and a paint brush trailing paint.

Other: I sketched in the paint palette beside the cake. (Rapunzel was an artist, and my daughter thinks she's going to be an artist in the future. Both paint, so that is why the choice of the paint palette and brush.) Also, I have the frying pan included.

Wording: Katy's Best. Birthday. Ever! (To mimic the scene in Tangled when Rapunzel is swinging by her hair and says "Best. Day. Ever!")

The bottom line:
10” cake - $45.00
Customized cake in fondant = $30.00
Decorations = $55.00
TOTAL = $130.00 plus tax

Here is what they turned my sketch and description into:
Disney2011483.jpg

Disney2011480.jpg

Rapunzel's hair trailing down the back of the cake.

Disney2011478.jpg

Pascal, in Rapunzel's dress. Not necessarily the image I would have chosen for the cake, but it was cute. :)

A view of the cake after it was cut into.

Since the cake wouldn't fit into the mini-fridge, I had to take all the top decorations off and cut it into large pieces. (Fortunately, I bought Tangled-themed plates and gallon sized ziploc bags.) The fridge was on the coldest setting and it actually froze the cake. Cake is good (although I really am not thrilled with the chocolate mousse, but I'm not much of a chocolate eater.)
