Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part V!

The bakery at Contemporary Resort isn't taking orders. I just spoke to five different cast members. Some of them didn't know what Private Dining was, but the others said since Private Dining is suspended "indefinitely", there's no "line" to connect to. Therefore, there is no way to contact the bakery team.
The last CM I spoke with, Antoinette, suggested I make a reservation at Steakhouse 71 and request to speak to the bakery chef during my dining reservation. Then place an order for a future custom cake order in that manner. Like, what!?
I have been ordering multiple cakes each year (one for each kiddo) from the bakery since 2012 (thanks to this board!), initially with Chef Brian and in recent years, Chef Yvonne. This is a little chaotic to me. And, of course, disappointing considering it was my own personal birthday I was ordering for this time 😭 I am going to miss our traditional mini two-tier cakes

So 5 years ago, I ordered a custom cake for my DD through CR Private dining that was supposed to be delivered to Cali Grill, and was never delivered. I believe my post is still in this thread back in July 2019. I am trying to redeem myself this year, and only have 3 nights. Which of the following would you try to do?

1. 1st night, which is the actual birthday night, we have the Fireworks dinner package at Spice Road. I don't see Spice Road on the list, but I see Restaurant Marrakesh, but supplied by a different external vendor and the option is 6-inch $23 cake in all-chocolate or all-vanilla. I assume that is just a plain cake with no Disneyfication?

2. 2nd night - Storybook Dining at WL - Has anyone gotten a cake delivered here? I may even go for an Evil Queen or 7 Dwarf motif instead of Rapunzel. I'm confused because I see WL under BOTH Contemporary and GF. Which one is it?

3. 3rd night- Raglan Road - Like Spice Road, I think this is just a generic, 3rd party option.

4. We're staying at YC, last option is to have a custom cake delivered from YC to the room on her actual birthday (1st night). Only issue is that we don't really need a 10-inch cake, but if this is the best option, I will splurge!

Note: I was hoping to keep the budget to up to $100 for a custom cake to feed 2-4 people (not the Mickey ears cake). Rapunzel would be the #1 choice, (or possibly Belle, or a villain, or Lightning McQueen).
The easiest options are either A) work with Yacht & Beach Club's cakes team (number in Post #2) to have a 10-inch cake delivered straight to your room (no need to cart it around, but they can be hard to get ahold of) or B) call Grand Floridian Private Dining to see if they'll deliver a cake to Wilderness Lodge. I have updated the first posts to reflect that the Contemporary has stopped offering custom cakes.

If you're staying at the Contemporary but not dining there, I would contact Grand Floridian Private Dining (see top of Post #1 or Post #2) and have them make a cake for you to pick up at the Grand Floridian.

Im staying at WL next month and had the same issues with CL so I got in touch with private dining at GF. Can confirm that they will deliver for $100+ cake orders or you can do pickup for less. They are also doing mini cakes.

Ultimately spoke with Glorimar and confirmed the above when I ordered mine Saturday.

I called this number and was told any cakes are done thru MDE dining reservation. Told CM I wanted a custom cake, but told had to use app. How do I get to someone to place a cake order. Dining and want it for Steakhouse 71 dinner in 2 weeks.
I would go with Daisy Cakes Orlando. We had a great experience with them delivering a haunted mansion themed cake to a restaurant. A 6 inch themed cake was $150 and that is a reasonable price for the beautiful pumpkin custom cake with fondant that they delivered. It had various portraits from the ride all around the cake. The heat from the candles melted the gum paste portraits on top of the cake and we did have to keep the cake with us at the table (someone can probably go up to bell services and pick it up during dinner for a surprise) it was delivered to bell services:

Just FYI. I emailed the GF today about having a cake delivered to AKL next month for my niece’s birthday. I’ve had cakes from them delivered to RIV before. However, I was told today that starting tomorrow GF will no longer be delivering cakes to Disney resorts or restaurants. The email is actually from a CM I’ve worked with in the past to order a cake to be delivered so I feel like she knows. She said it was “per our new pastry chef.”

I think the GF was temporarily making cakes post COVID for delivery anywhere on property but now the individual resort area bakeries should be able to make custom cakes. Do they not deliver to 1900 park fare as well? Have you tried calling AKL private dining?

I’m surprised that the contemporary bakery isn’t offering cakes for Stk71 esp. since they do have their in-house chocolate cake on the menu.

Not every resort has a bakery nor private dining.

Unfortunately, since COVID, only the Grand Floridian has had Private Dining and a team making specialty cakes. Which means that that’s the only place making/delivering cakes. So if they are truly no longer going to deliver to other Disney resorts and restaurants, there won’t be any way to get specialty cakes elsewhere now. Hopefully Yacht and Beach Club is still doing custom cakes, but DISers’ results have been mixed recently.

Has it been confirmed that the Contemporary isn’t making custom cakes for STK71? We had a cake delivered post COVID and it was beautiful and reasonably priced (and they don’t use nuts so guaranteed nut free). This is really disappointing.

We were hoping to get a custom cake in Dec for DD’s 5th birthday (staying at Poly; but will definitely have a STK71 ADR).

Yeah, they were still doing cakes for a while. But recently several DISers have called and spoken to many different cast members and all been told that there is no more cake team at the Contemporary.

Could ordering cakes become a thing of the past? Would a 3rd party vendor just be a better choice?

I think it might be a safer bet to use a third-party vendor at this point. I know there are cast members in the Ear for Each Other Facebook group who make and deliver cakes on property.

Yes. As post 1 indicates there are bakeries serving each resort area.
First you asked me had I tried calling AKL private dining. AKL does not do private dining that I am aware of. Then you refer me to post 1 which from what I read indicates that GF is the one to contact for AKL. However, my initial post was letting people know when I did contact GF, they informed me they are not delivering cakes to Disney restaurants nor resorts anymore per their new pastry chef.

I had a cake delivered from GF to Riviera post Covid but sounds like it’s not gonna happen now!!

Update: the Grand Floridian bakery will deliver a cake to a Grand Floridian restaurant if you have a reservation.

Thanks for that info. We will probably try 1900 park fare on our upcoming visit. Being close to our resort makes taking back leftovers much easier.

AKL was doing private dining pre COVID. GF private dining opened back up post COVID and was initially delivering to all resorts but now started limiting that capability so I thought they might now open private dining back up at the Poly and AKL but alas it was not meant to be.

You used to be able to order the Ohana feast in your room. And I suppose the garden view tea room (anyone remember Ivy Trellis) is history but we can look to a similar experience at the cake bake shop at the boardwalk.

I was hoping to get a cake delivered from Disney but this may be my only option now. So we can have it delivered to bell services and then pick up for dinner? Did restaurant have any issues with you bringing in an outside cake?

We asked for him to deliver the cake at bell services at AKL (Jambo). Once we arrived we picked it up (AKL bell services is always quick) and then informed the restaurant we had a cake with us while checking in. They told us they can’t take it back to the kitchen due to safety reasons and we had to keep it at our table. They provided candles and lit them up. They also do not provide any to go boxes, but it was easy enough to package it back up into the box. We chose not to cut it, but it would probably be better to cut it at a restaurant if it has fondant (vs trying with plastic knives). I suppose someone can step away and go to bell services if you would like it to be a surprise. I would make it the last thing you do so you can take it back to your resort after dinner.

We thought of taking it to our MK lunch ADR at CRT. He said he can deliver to the front of the park and meet up with us, but we would have to take it through security. Also someone would have to leave the park to take it back to the resort. The cake will go bad in about 1-2 hours in the Florida heat.

The cake was big for a 6 inch, most likely you will have left overs esp if you have young kids and you’re at a buffet.
