Well, i have to say I am pretty disappointed by my call with pat at the GF. all i wanted was a mini cake with a small apple or possibly a pencil or something sculpted to top the cake to indicate that my mother was a teacher and she had recently retired. all she offered me was a flat clip art picture of an apple or a book for an extra $15 dollars.

I'm so sorry. Contemporary sculpted pumpkins, witch hat, and tombstone for my mini cake with vines and cobwebs.

About a week and a half ago I ordered the Star Wars themed cake for my husband. I ordered from Yacht & Beach Club private dining and it will be delivered to Captain's Grille on 1/25. They recommended an 8 inch cake, which I think will be too much (we're 5 adults), but I know we'll all be fine with leftovers. It will be vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and filling. It will have a 2D jedi Mickey and the rest will be Star Wars "themed." I asked for lighting effects, too. The CM who took my order ran it by the bakery and the bakery approved ... with a slight upcharge. :) The process was smooth and easy. A CM took my order and the bakery called back to confirm and let me know the costs. I was impressed since the call came in between the holidays.

I'll try to build up to 10 posts so I can post pictures when I return from vacation. Thanks again to this board for all of the information and help!

We aren't eating any meals at the contemporary. Will they bring it over to 1900 park fare from the contemporary?

I'm excited, just started the cake ordering process for my son's 4th birthday on Leap Day this year, so the first time we are actually celebrating on his real birthday! I emailed magickingdomcakes@disney.com to place the order for our reservation at BOG. I asked for a Mickey Baseball themed cake, and they emailed me back within 24 hours with two pictures of Mickey playing baseball to choose from. I have requested a 6 inch Fancy Fondant cake with Red Sox colors and the 2D white chocolate image of Mickey playing baseball on top. I will keep you updated with the ordering process as I go, but so far so good!

I know this has probably already been discussed, but I cannot find the answer, so please bare with me. We are celebrating my daughter's graduation this summer and she is requesting a vegan Star Wars cake, has anybody been able to order a custom vegan cake? I know we could order from Erin McKenna's Bakery, and we likely will get several desserts from here throughout the trip, but my daughter really wants a themed cake to celebrate her accomplishment. Has anybody had any luck ordering a vegan cake? what hotel said they could do this for you?
Thanks
Stacey

Yes. The Contemporary does the cakes for restaurants in Magic Kingdom.
great thank you so much for the tip!
I have put in an email for the cake so once that goes smoothly(fingers crossed!) I will cancel my PF cake.
my husband likes the idea of surprising her the first night instead of the last night anyway

Hi I was wondering if anyone has tried to have a Descendants cake made? I was thinking of ordering one from Pat at our 1900 Park Fair dinner. We love her cakes!

Brides have been able to get vegan cakes for their Disney weddings, made by the Grand Floridian. You could see if any of the other pastry teams can do one for you though. It's best to call/email the pastry chef to see what the options are. Info in post #2.

This is great to hear! Do you have a photo? I ordered a Haunted Mansion mini cake from CR for delivery to WL next month. When I initially inquired about this theme (February 2014) they offered to sculpt a mini gate for the top of a HM mini cake. But when I returned to confirm last fall, my only options for the mini cake were a 2D hitchhiking ghost or a flower. :( I can understand if the wallpaper fondant won't work with the mini cake, but I'd love to have something more themed than the black rose on top - particularly because the cake is for three boys. I've considered going with a 6" instead, but we know from experience that it's way too much cake and we prefer the taste of the mini cake frosting/cake ratio.

Just wanted to share the cake we had made for our trip to Disneyland. It was delivered to Goofy's Kitchen...6"...red velvet...cream cheese filling...supposed to be buttercream frosting, but tasted like whipped cream...Goofy themed = $64 after taxes, etc.

The cake was good, minus the whipped cream, but it was more trouble than it was worth. I initially asked for a blue fondant covered cake with the 60th anniversary D and diamond on top (as an edible image) and the Mickey wave pattern going around the side. They couldn't do the diamond and then they told me I'd be hit with a major charge for a wedding cake design, so I just simplified and went with this. The restaurant was also really confused by the cake. I guess they're not used to people ordering cakes from the main bakery, so it took them several minutes to figure out how to bill this...i.e. it wasn't a podium cake and had a different code in the system. The server and chef also were kind of thrown by a "just-because-cake." They put candles in anyway, but didn't know what to sing to us. LOL

This massive cake was also delivered for a little girl's first birthday just before we were seated. I'm pretty sure this was an outside bakery.

Thanks for sharing your experience and photos! The reason the buttercream tasted that way is that Disneyland uses something called Chantilly buttercream instead of the traditional buttercream you and I like and are used to getting at Walt Disney World. We found this out after being disappointed with the red velvet cake we ordered at Disneyland too... Since then, I've had my Disneyland birthday cakes delivered by local bakery SusieCakes—they taste SO much better than Disneyland's!

It's funny...now that you say that, I seem to recall a post from you (some time ago) about their buttercream. Well, I'll definitely remember SusieCakes should we return to DL and want cake. Thanks! :)

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help with my cake dilemma. Just received an email back and they will be doing my mini cake with all the 3D sculpted elements for $50 (the same price quoted at the GF for one 2D image)
Its definitely an expensive tiny cake but I know my mom will absolutely freak and probably cry.
We are having it on our first night at BOG. I left a lot of creative freedom up to the baker so I hope that means I get a little more!
I asked for a teacher theme apple, pencil, etc. I will post pictures asap when we get back!

We will be celebrating my son's elementary school graduation this summer at Whispering Canyon Cafe with a party of 11. My son is allergic to tree nuts and peanuts. Is there a custom cake option for this that IS NOT gluten free as well and won't break the bank? We would like to spend $60 or less if possible for the cake. My son loves Star Wars in particular, he's a huge fan!

The typical ingredients for these cakes do not involve nut products so you should be fine ordering a normal custom cake and just making them aware of the allergies. If you want them from an entirely nut free bakery though you may be stuck with the allergy free cakes from someplace like Erin McKennas and those may be gluten-free, dairy-free, etc.
