Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

Ok, I've done due diligence in searching the past 4 cake threads. So we are celebrating two boys' tenth birthdays in a few weeks. We think that having a cake delivered to CBR is our best bet with our schedule. If I have read correctly, I contact Boardwalk Inn?

Also, is there an updated gallery? All the links I have followed don't bring me to a list of photos like the Cake Thread II had. I'm open to a lot of ideas for these boys because they love everything disney, and I wanted to see some newer cakes than the 2010 list. I have those memorized! Is there an easy way to navigate new pics?

Thanks everyone!

So excited to say that I placed my cake order this weekend with Yacht & Beach Club Fine Dining. We are staying at BCV and am surprising my DH with an in-room cake delivery on our arrival night. I called the number that Carrie listed on page 1 and after stating I was placing a custom cake order, was promptly transferred to the correct person.

The CM took some general information (how many people, cake size, date, budget, where to be delivered) and asked if I had a specific design in mind. I mentioned that I had a couple of ideas/photos so she sent me am email asking me to describe what I wanted (size, flavors, etc) and include the images. One of my requests was a Christmas themed cake but I was leaving the decorations up to the bakery.

I received a quick return email with the attached image of a cake that they had done in the past. Needless to say, I quickly abandoned my original ideas and went with this one. It was slightly more than I wanted to spend but since it is a surprise and our first trip as DVC owners, well, what the heck.

The cake will be $68 (excluding tax and delivery) and be decorated just like the photo with "Welcome Home!" on the banner. I ordered a 6" chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling and vanilla frosting under the white fondant. (BTW, the only cake flavors offered were vanilla, chocolate, or marble). Our trip isn't until mid-November so I will take a photo and post when we return.

Thank you Carrie for all the hard work you do in maintaining this thread and answering everyone's questions. If anyone is posting for the first time, definitely check out the first page of this post (all the info I needed was there) and if you have a design in mind, google for cake inspirations and send it along to your bakery contact. So far, my experience with Y&BC has been wonderful!

Well just called and ordered our 25th Anniversary mini cake and Fairy Tale Sparkling wine to be delivered to our room at the Boardwalk Inn after check in next month :) Joyce with private dining is the one who took my order...originally wanted Red velvet with Cream Cheese Buttercream but was told they only do vanilla or choc for the mini cakes and that is ok even though I'm sure I saw a red velvet one someone posted at one time ;) but I did go ahead and decide on chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream icing..just asked for silver piping or scroll like accents on the cake so not really sure what we will get ...hopefully it won't be too busy ;) I just want something simple and nice. On the plate it will say "25 Magical Years" Will take a pic and post when we get it :)

Also she did ask for my phone and took my credit card info but never gave me a price or confirmation number. She did tell me I wouldn't be charged until it was delivered. Should I call back a few days before to double check that that will be no issues with the order?

Thanks so much to everyone who posted. I spent alot of time looking at cakes on here. Would have loved to have ordered a big fancy cake but it is just Hubby and I for a Food and Wine Fest weekend so a Mini will be perfect!!

Should I email or call Boardwalk Bakery FIRST and see what options are available, as I know I want either a mini cake or something 6" that is more interesting than vanilla/vanilla or chocolate/chocolate, and then call ASMu to place the order? ..
Also- what is the procedure/cost for getting a cake delivered to ASMu? Ostensibly, I'd like it to be in our room when we check in, but don't want to pay huge money (aka, delivery charge, gratuity, and tax on that!) for the convenience.

I would just work with ASMu and tell them you want X flavors. If you call BoardWalk Bakery, they will read from the standard cake ordering sheet, which only lists basic flavors. There should be no delivery charge for the cake, but BoardWalk private dining may charge you gratuity on the price of the cake. And there's always tax. In the past it has not been possible to have the cake waiting at check-in — you had to be checked in for them to deliver. Someone recently posted here that they were able to have the cake waiting for them in their room because they did online check-in prior to their arrival. So you could try that.

So, we are headed back to Disney for Christmas which means another Disney birthday cake for my son. I've had pretty good luck in the past working with Pat, knock on wood, but I was wondering if there is an email you can send pictures to for the Grand Floridian cakes? ...

And do you think I can still get a 6" cake there for around $100?

You would need to get this email address from Pat or someone else in Private Dining. The price of your cake is totally going to depend on the pastry chef's estimate for what you want. For the Yeti, I'd have them pipe on buttercream like fur or cover the cake in coconut flakes to get that effect, and that should be cheaper than fondant.

I've got my 3rd trip coming up that requires a cake, and you've helped me tremendously with the first two trips, equaling 5 cakes! But it's been 2 years, so when did Chef Brian return? I thought he left the contemp?

I'm so glad to be able to help! Chef Brian's been back for a couple of years now, I think. We here on the Cake Chatter Thread were all very happy when he returned!

No, contact CBR. BoardWalk Bakery will make the cake, but if you call them directly they will tell you they don't deliver. The order has to be placed through the resort where you're staying.

Nobody's been able to take on the huge task of creating another gallery. I tried starting one on Flickr but have not been able to keep up with it much either: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lurkyloo/sets

So glad to hear you're having such a great experience with Yacht & Beach Club private dining!

Disney doesn't give out confirmation numbers for cake orders. I would definitely call again a few days before you go to reconfirm the order. Also, many of us have been able to get red velvet and cream cheese for mini cakes by working directly with the pastry chef. The folks who answer the phone for private dining just read the standard flavors off the cake-ordering form.

Thank You!! Will definitely call back to check , also I may call back and see if I can get the email for the pastry chef to see if I can get red velvet :)

Has anyone tried the baileys mousse filling? Debating that or chocolate filling with a chocolate cake

I went back and forth w/ contemporary to get the actual cake sorted out. To officially order the cake I had to forward what we had finally agreed on to Magic Kingdom cakes. They sent me an email with the exact specs including when (CRT), time ressie#, and then gave me a confirmation number!

Now do yu think there is alchohol in it? I was assuming it is just flavoring but since we will end sharing with the kids I have to wonder! Very excited calling tomorrow :)

$500 (Just shy of $400USD) CAD for both cakes. 8in gluten-free. They looked nice, but no where near $250 worth of nice (IMO) They were inedible - even the kids wouldn't eat them. After this experience I will not order a Disney cake again. I was embarrassed to serve these cakes to my friends. Though the birthday boys thought they were fabulous to look at.
Wait why were these 200 a piece. I have had way crazier cakes made on trips and the most expensive was 150. That's like 120 tops for what they did. Was it because if was gluten free. If not I would be asking for money back

It does seem rather high in comparison to other cakes that I've had or seen here. Gluten free never added anything to the cost of our cakes as far as I know. If it did, it was minimal. I'm curious what bakery was used.

what place were they eating at. I didn't catch it.

I feel like I read this somewhere, but want to be sure, as I'll be ordering soon. I will be requesting a screen print for an 8 inch cake. Do I need to specify that I want a 2D standing screen print? Will they put the screen print flat on the cake, if I don't say otherwise? (Epcot FutureWorld bakery)

Also, anyone know if anyone at that location can e-mail image choices?

Does anyone have any photos of the 6 " chocolate or vanilla cakes that can be delivered to the room at AKL?
Do they decorate these cakes?

How do they taste?

THanks!

Officially placed my order today for next week! I'll be sure to get pictures to post when I come home! :)

Thanks for having this thread with all of the detailed information. It was a HUGE help!

Well, the guy George was the one who I would have called to order the cake. He started the process via email and then called me for the credit card info. Chef Brian quoted $350 but with the Bavarian cream & fresh strawberries it came to $376 plus tip & gratuity. We have the TIW card so that should help. Via the ordering process George asked me to send a picture of the cake that I sent to Chef Brian so I did. He told me it was going to be an adorable cake and asked that when I receive it at the party to please take some pictures of it and email it to the CR cake email. Also, he asked what flavor I wanted the top layer (??), so I'm assuming he figured I was getting both tiers. So I told him all the same flavoring just in case. He said they will not put the topper on and I will not be allowed to go in the back to place the topper. He said I could speak with the waitstaff to see if I could go off to the side to place the topper otherwise I have to put the topper on at the table in front of all the guests. Don't like the idea of that so I'm hoping the WCC staff will work with me on that.

So I think that's it. Next post should be of the cake... in 22 days!!

Thanks so much for all the support everyone, especially Lurkyloo. So excited!!
@Disney_Alli had a topper for the cake she ordered and she was able to give it to the server at Flying Fish and they placed it for her.
