Do you know if you can have a in the room when you arrive?

Also, is there a phone number to order for Pop?

Dd and I are going on a short trip in Aug to celebrate her 16th birthday and I wanted to do a cake, but we have free dining so I'm not sure a cake after a meal would make sense. We are arriving later (flight lands at 6) so having a cake on our arrival day would be better.

When I ordered the other day I was told you have to check in and enter your room before they can deliver the cake.

I just did this as a birthday surprise. All I had to do was the online check in and the cake was waiting in our room when we arrived. It was an awesome surprise after a 10 hour flight.
We stayed at BLT, don't know if that makes a difference.

This may be answered here somewhere, but honestly I've been so busy picking out his cake I haven't noticed .. but ... We are doing 1900PF for my brother's birthday in August. How do we get the cake to him if we have the celebration at the restaurant? Do the servers bring it over? Do any characters sing? Or do we just sing ourselves? Although secondary, he is handicapped with cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair and LOVEs the characters. They always treat him special as well. Just trying to plan for what to expect. Thanks!

Guess I will have to call and ask, I've already done on-line check in. If nothing else hopefully they can deliver it as soon as we get in our room.

How far in advance do you start getting quotes for your cakes? I know they need 48 hours notice, but I'm going at the end of September, and was wondering if its too early to start asking them about cakes, or should I wait til closer to the date? Thanks.

I usually call about 3 weeks out unless it's something really elaborate. You can start whenever—I've just heard too many horror stories about forgotten cakes, so I wait til closer in.

They cannot put anything in your room until after you have checked in. Phone number is in Post #2 of this thread.

You place your order for the cake via the resort where the restaurant is (in your case, the Grand Floridian). The pastry team sends the cake to the restaurant, and your server is supposed to know that it's waiting for you. But they often forget, so it's best to remind the server when you first meet them. Hopefully you'll get some pixie dust and the characters will notice the cake and sing.

Wow! I was told by the Contemporary Team that it would be delivered prior to our arrival as I had done online check in and it WAS in the room when we first arrived. I thought that was the norm.

It could be that with the new online check-in procedures tied to My Magic+ they have started offering this because you really are fully checked in ahead of time. Did you bypass the front desk altogether and go straight to your room?

No, we had to go to the front desk as we do not live in the US and had to pick up our Magic Bands.
They did check my reservation when I ordered and told me it would be in the room when we arrived. I was surprised and glad that it all worked so nicely and easily as the cake, plates and cutlery were in the room when my brother ("the birthday boy") opened the door.

I want to do an anniversary cake for my trip in August and I'm trying to decide wether to have the cake at Chef Mikey's or 1900PF. I would like to do a Jack and Sally theme. Is one location better than the other?

We are planning to do a Jack and Sally anniversary cake at Cali Grill in Feb. we have worked with chef Brian at the Contemporary on several birthday cakes and have never been disappointed. He is very accessible and helpful. I have no experience with GF pastry team, but originally went with Brian because I read multiple reports of them being difficult to work with. I don't know if this had changed, but several years ago there was no way to speak directly to the person making the cake at GF and that led to miscommunication.

Thanks! I had heard the same thing about GF, that is why I asked--wasn't sure if it was still an issue. Though I think I may just go with Chef Mickey's anyway. :) How small can we go with a custom cake? There is only five of us and I really don't want anything really big, but I would like some nice custom decorations.

:thanks:

Thank you! I am starting to get excited! The tips here are awesome!

There is a mini cake (mini two tier wedding cake like cake) for 1 or 2 or you can get a six inch cake

Thanks! I don't want to go too small (mini cake) because I would the kids to have some too. But I also don't want to do a 10" or larger. I will work with them and see how it all works out.

Is the mini cake actually big enough for 2 people? We're probably going to have it with coffee in the morning. Our tradition is to have cupcakes for breakfast on our birthdays, so I'm trying to keep the tradition going as best I can.

I ordered a mini cake to share with DH. It definitely is big enough for two people. It was a surprise at BOG when it was time for dessert. We actually took the top back to the room with us. The top tier is the size of a cupcake and the bottom is not that much bigger.

[GALLERY=][/GALLERY]We will be in Disney for my dd's 4th birthday and are celebrating at Akershus. Her favourite princesses are Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, I was hoping to do a 2 tiered mini cake, with each tier being themed for each princess. Is this even possible? (See top two layers of the pic)I was also hoping to do a 2 tiered mini cake at Le Cellier for Dh and my 10th anniversary, using our wedding cake as inspiration. Does Epcot do this?

A mini cake is too small to do much of anything different on each tier. Epcot does make them, but unless you're ok with just the colors being different, you're probably going to have to get a different mini cake for each princess. The pastry chef/cake ordering contact will let you know what's possible.
