Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

Hi everyone! I sent an email to the Contemporary cake email address (asking about placing a custom-cake order); I was wondering if anyone could comment on how long it might take to get a reply from someone? I am wondering if I should expect to hear from them in a few days or more quickly (really, I want to know how long I should wait before I try reaching someone by telephone).

Thank you for any guidance you can offer!

That is so disappointing :(. I was hoping for a little decoration.

They can do a screen print on a 10-inch cake. And it never hurts to ask about customization - someone here was able to get a slightly more decorated cake made by that outside vendor at Mexico, but it may be because the person who took her order in Mexico made the effort to get that done. Hopefully the person you speak to in France will be as helpful.

It looked like this:

We got this cake and chocolate slipper during our most recent trip to CRT on 12/20/2014.

Thanks you for sharing!

Has anyone had a cake themed around the tree of life or animal kingdom every time I search for one all I can find is cakes for little kids and I'm trying to find one for adults

Well, I dunno if this is too kid-ish for you, but here's one I ordered for my husband at Animal Kingdom Lodge....

If you haven't heard back within a week, try calling. You won't be able to speak to the pastry chef, but they can tell him you need to get in touch with him.

Hi Bizzybee3, via email you should get a response early tomorrow morning. I ordered a cake the week after Christmas. Chef Brian was very prompt in responding to me. I even got emails from him at 6:30am. You can also try calling the bakery at (407) 824-2955. Michelle will get back to you within 24 hours. On a funny note, I accidentally called the wrong number and left a voicemail. I can only imagine what they thought when they heard my message about ordering a Chip and Dale cake. :sad2:

So the Redhead picture (the Marc Davis concept art as suggested by lurkyloo) is not on the approved list, so Johanna at the Y&BC has to send it off to see if can be approved to use on the cake. Crossing my fingers it can be!

Hi we are going in April just for 2 days, weare going to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. On Epcot we are eating at Via Napoli and at sci fi at the Studios. Can we order a mini cake (just for 2) or should I order one at the Boardwalk bakery?

A cake decorator from Contemporary just got back to me via email regarding a small cake with Baymax on it for my son's birthday dinner at Chef Mickey's. They gave me a quote of $38.00 and said to call and order it. WooHoo!

Quoted myself because I wanted to post an update. I called to order the cake that was quoted to me via email and received a return phone call today. I have no idea where $38.00 came from. It's now costing me $70 plus tax and gratuity. The first question she asked me was who's Baymax? That does not make me feel that great about my order.

She said I had to get the 8 inch cake instead of the 6 inch because of the design. So I went with an 8 inch chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and vanilla buttercream icing that will have a standing 2D image of Baymax on it. Hopefully this turns out nice!

Been going back and forth with the pastry chef at V&A's. Trying to recreate the top of my wedding cake. I will post as soon as we get it on the 18th!

I'll keep my fingers crossed too! :thumbsup2

Don't worry—she's not the one making the cake! The person who took my order at the Contemporary didn't know who Fozzie Bear was! But the cake turned out fabulously.

I left a voicemail yesterday for Magic Kingdom Cakes to get a cake for my daughters 16th bday dinner at BOG. I was surprised at how quickly I received an email from them but disappointed in the choices they gave me. Very standard boring cakes. I was hoping for a mini 2 tier cake. I have sent an email back asking about something a little more custom. Fingers crossed! I want to do something Peter Pan related!

I am about to do the same.exact.thing. Sweet 16 at BOG so I am really interested in how your process goes, please keep us updated! We will be there 2/14 so I plan to call soon. Do you have a theme or concept you are looking to get made?

Good luck to you!

Well I had zero intentions on getting a cake for our next trip in May because with our twins turning 3 our budget is now pretty tight. But someone has offered us their CM discount for our resort which with has brought us a few hundred dollars under budget! Woohoo!

Now I'm thinking we will add Memory Maker and a cake because let's face it, the money was already designated for Disney I may as well use it!

A couple questions though. First, are they doing cakes at BoG now or is it still on a case by case basis?

Second, for those who have had fondant covered cakes, is there still a good amount of buttercream beneath the fondant? I LOVE buttercream frosting and I've found sometimes when fondant is used bakeries skimp on the buttercream. Has anyone found that to be the case with Disney cakes?

TIA!

Do you remember what the options were? You said no two-tier mini cake - how about just one tier? And were the options limited to flavors (filling, frosting), or decorations?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm about to send in my cake request to Magic Kingdom Cakes next week, and don't want to set myself up for disappointment. Thanks!

I emailed them back and got a very quick response. I am so impressed with how quick they have emailed me back. I told her I was looking to do something more custom and possibly the mini 2 tier since it will just be the two of us.

She sent me a pic of the two that they do...simple two tier with mickey/minnie ears on top. But she said if that wasn't what I wanted I could email some pics and or description and they would see what the bakery could do.

DD is in love with Peter Pan so I sent her a couple of pics I had found and gave a brief idea of what I wanted and she has emailed me back that she sent it to the bakery and would get back with me with what they could do and cost as soon as she heard back from them.

They didn't have the two tier in the basic original email they sent me but once I emailed her what I was looking for she was very receptive to it. I posted a little more info in the post above.

The flavors offered were just chocolate or vanilla with buttercream frosting.

Is it possible to order cupcakes for pickup at Boardwalk Bakery? I'd love to surprise the grands with Mickey oreo cupcakes. Trying to do something special without too much sugar overload!! Thanks

Does anyone have any photos of cakes not based on characters that might be appropriate for a wedding celebration (but not an actual wedding cake)?

Thank you!:goodvibes

I am just wondering if I ordered a cake for our sons 5th birthday would I be able to bring something to put on the cake. I found these toy story figure play set at the Disney store. they are like maybe 4 inches high they would make a great piece for a cake.
thanks.
