Does anyone have experience with whether you can order a mini cake for dinner at Teppan Edo? I saw that particular restaurant is not ran by Disney, that it's an outside place?? So, I wondered if it's worth it for my daughter's 20th birthday, (like is the quality and appearance good). I was going to order a regular sized birthday cake to our resort room as a surprise, but I wanted a small one for dinner that night.

First I would like to thank everyone on this thread for all of the great info!
We had dinner at Boma on Dec 18th. I had called and ordered a cake about 3 weeks in advance to surprise my family. The lady that I spoke to was very sweet and helpful. I ordered an 8 inch chocolate cake with vanilla cream icing and filling. My only request was for it to be decorated with Christmas colors and say, Merry Christmas and a Magical 2015. At the time I called she did not quote me a price. I waited a week or so and didn't hear back from anyone to confirm, so I called back and spoke with the same sweet lady. She gave me my quote of $40 and confirmed the cake for Dec 18th.
We were very happy with our cake. It did surprise my kiddos and hubby. It tasted great and was even better the next day for breakfast!!!

Has anyone gotten a Baymax/Big Hero 6 cake?

We have a Chef Mickey's birthday celebration coming up in less than two weeks, and our birthday boy initially requested either 7D or Big Hero 6.

Another way you might be able to do this (besides bringing figures to put on top of a plain cake) would be to just have them pipe two black ovals with a line connecting them (i.e., Baymax's eyes) on an all-white cake. When I asked for a Fozzie Bear cake, I ran into the same character copyright issues, but they had no problem doing an interpretive cake covered in Fozzie fur and wrapped in his tie.

Hey guys. Looking to order a Western Theme cake (not toy story, maybe mickey or fab 5, chip & dale...) for my son's 1st birthday party at Whispering Canyon. Looking for inspiration.

I've had good luck searching Flickr and even Google Images for cake ideas by using the terms (like Western or cowboy) + cake. :thumbsup2

Is it normal that my quote didn't include the cost of the special filings? In my initial request i mentioned what I wanted and then when I confirmed the design I was told that special fillings would be 12$ on top of that price.... I feel like this just keeps going up & up ... Can anyone recommend ( from experience with Disney's cakes please) some flavor combinations in the buttercream or mouse fillings?

This is tricky because everyone has different taste. For example, I hate fruit and liqueur fillings, but most Disney brides rave about these (tropical mousse with any kind of cake is big, amaretto crunch mousse with almond cake is big). My preferred combos are chocolate cake with a combo of peanut butter buttercream frosting (not filling - they're two different things) and chocolate ganache, or red velvet cake with buttercream frosting (not filling).

Is it possible to order a cake from the Boardwalk Bakery and pick it up during the day? I wanted to order a cake and pick it up after going to one of the parks for a little while, so late afternoon, early evening.

Yes. They'll ask you what time of day you want to pick it up, but if you're later they'll just hang onto it for you.

Does anyone have experience with whether you can order a mini cake for dinner at Teppan Edo?

No, they only offer a basic 6-inch chocolate or vanilla cake as the smallest choice. However, it's pretty small (unlike the 6-inch custom cakes, which are quite tall) so practically a mini cake...

Quick question: We ordered a cake from the Contemporary for our son's birthday celebration at Chef Mickey's. We coordinated via e-mail with Brian and Donald, and then placed the order via phone. I'm a confirmation number type of person, and we don't have that through the ordering process. Should I just relax, or does anyone call to confirm?

Also, Lurkyloo, thanks for all your work in maintaining this thread. All very helpful! And such beautiful, tasteful and classic wedding photos in your signature.

Hey, thanks! :goodvibes I am a confirmation type of person too. They don't give you a number, so what I do is call a couple of days beforehand and reconfirm every detail of the order with Private Dining. That way, if they did lose it, there's still time to get a new order in. :thumbsup2

Since the cake threads were so helpful to me in ordering a custom cake, I wanted to come back and post pics of the cake I had ordered for my mom's bday now that I know how to post pics, lol!

Cost was around $65 I believe. I had it delivered to our table at Chef Mickey's during dinner. This was in 1/2014

I don't remember the size but it was absolutely delicious and we took the leftovers back to our hotel room, stuck them in the fridge and ate on it for days and still didn't finish it. There were 5 adults and 3 kids in our party. It was chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling on the inside. Very moist and yummy!

Thanks so much! I'll definitely do that!

Hi All

We're headed to Disney in August so I have plenty of time to plan. We'll be celebrating my daughter's 2nd birthday, mother's 70th birthday, and my 40th birthday all while we're there. We're planning on a lot of TS character meals and I'd like to surprise my mom and daughter with cakes. Grandma loves chocolate - period end of story. DD is like her mama - we're vanilla fans and will stretch to lemon/raspberry as well. Where can I get the world's best tasting chocolate cake for my mom? and is it worth having cake delivered to a character meal?

thanks in advance

Jen
As of right now we're planning on:
Dinner at Garden Grill in Epcot
Dinner at Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom

All the rest of our ADRs are for character breakfasts which I would imagine are not cake friendly :)

We're staying at PORFQ so I'm fine with getting cake one day at the resort too if it's worth it.

I just called and spoke to Johanna at the Y&BC for the cake for my mom.

It was funny as we were trying to figure out the design, we both agreed, just send me what you have in an email and both laughed.

I hope I was able to describe what I wanted based off a cake picture which is nothing like what I want, just the 'type'.

I just hope this cake doesn't cost me an arm and a leg :rotfl2:

I was really impressed with the freshness and taste of my birthday cake in Epcot, so I'd say to do Garden Grill. For a chocolate lover, I would suggest chocolate cake with chocolate chips and chocolate ganache for the filling AND the frosting. Soooooo fudgey! You should also be able to order something like this for Crystal Palace, you just have to get through the MK Cake department's runaround about the standard cakes the offer first. :thumbsup2

A cake decorator from Contemporary just got back to me via email regarding a small cake with Baymax on it for my son's birthday dinner at Chef Mickey's. They gave me a quote of $38.00 and said to call and order it. WooHoo!

Has anyone gotten a cake with Mrs. Potts on it, or representing her? She is my favorite character ever! I'm celebrating my 28th birthday there in April, so I'm looking for ideas.

Thanks!!

Does anyone have experience with an outside vendor? When I looked into a cake for chefs de France it says contact for a outside vendor.

Can't wait to see it! :hyper:

Are you referring to the information on the first page of this thread? What it says is that you can order a cake for Chefs de France but it will be made by an outside vendor, not the Disney pastry team at Epcot. The vendor Chefs de France uses offers only chocolate or vanilla cakes with no customization. They look like this:

That is so disappointing :(. I was hoping for a little decoration.

We got this cake and chocolate slipper during our most recent trip to CRT on 12/20/2014. We were celebrating DD's 11th birthday and got her the Royal Highness Package. The cake was vanilla. We boxed it up, took it back to the villa and then mom took it on the plane with her. She froze it the night before and wrapped it in wax paper and put it in zip lock bags. She kept it in the freezer until got it from her. We ate the cake a week later and it was really good. The chocolate slipper was for my mom and she loved it.
