Official Dancing With the Stars: Season 18

I will vote for the first time this season.....too late to save Charlie, but hopefully help Meryl!

Yes, there is a REASON why the Paralympics are a totally different and separate COMPETITION than the regular Olympics. And why Paralympic athletes compete against other paralympic athletes. They canNOT be judged fairly by the same standards and shouldn't be in the same competition at the regular Olympics.
I just re-watched her quickstep and I would hold up THAT dance against anything else we have seen all season. It pisses me off that Derek doesn't trust her enough to actually dance and sits her butt on chairs and tables.

The winner being a "popular" choice is nothing new. Think Kelly Monaco over John O'Hurley and etc.

Dance is defined as moving feet or body or both rhythmically. It's not just moving your feet.

Dancing With the Stars has always been a popularity contest. If it wasn't, Candice would be gone.
....your feet must be on the ground, or at least SOME part of your body...

If Meryl & Maks had gone home I would not have watched next week. I do wonder if Meryl & Charlie shared the same voters. I was worried because last week was not Meryl's best week.

I had hope that something would be said about all the time Amy spent on the table but no they just called Derek "creative". Yes her first dance was probably her best but she had been so overscored all season. I couldn't believe when Oprah called, maybe that will get everybody voting against her but people still love Oprah don't they.

I wish that either Candace or James had gone home. I did think James first dance was his best ever. I liked Candace's second dance but I'm surprised that she's still there.

I think Sharna was the reason that Charlie didn't make it. Her choreography is just, as another poster said, forgettable.

Next week is when we will really need to give Meryl & Maks all the votes. If the judges score them lower than Amy we will know the fix is in. In the past the judges have been willing to give the freedance a lower score. Will they give Amy a second dance that allows Derek to once again use a prop? Amy can't do two regular dances a week, tonight showed that for sure.

Yes her quickstep was good, I think it was her best dance, but she had on racing legs, that added a spring to her step. The other dancers don't get to put springs on their feet.

I think Derek knows exactly what he's doing. He sat her on the table to save her energy, also so she didn't have to learn new steps.

Doesn't the score include the general public? I highly doubt everyone is calling, tweeting & logging in for sympathy only. It's a popularity contest.

....while I agree that lots of people are voting for her because of 'popularity', let's face it - many of those votes ARE sympathy votes..." [ "Oh, how incredible!", "I really admire her for doing what she's doing.", "What guts and determination!" and on and on...that's what a sympathy vote IS]…

OMG....exactly what I was thinking...

Is that in the DWTS rules?

....I don't know anything about DWTS rules, but if a star was dangling from a rope/cord/string and flailing about, albeit rhythmically, would THAT be considered 'dancing'?

I don't see it that way. What would you call Candice's votes? Surely not sympathy.

All the contestants are getting paid. I feel sorry for none of them. Would have loved to see Charlie stay to watch his dancing in the finals. Clearly, he wasn't popular enough.

According to the definition of dancing.

Look back and see that I am NOT an Amy fan. Yes, she had her running legs on and they gave her more bounce, but they did not contribute significantly to the quickness and sharpness of her step while stopped in hold (sorry, I don't know the name of the steps). The whole dance was really great and it annoys me that Derek relies on the pity votes when Amy is actually a good dancer.

....no....that's what's known in the biz as 'a lapse in sanity'....:rotfl:

Why? :confused3 ...because they are getting paid? What does that have to do with it? Isn't their pride at stake?

....I think you could be right...I am a fan of Derek's, but I think he bent the rules a little too much this season...and, contrary to what my views are, regarding Amy, I do happen to think she is very talented. However, I think she made it to the finals unfairly...

THIS. THIS. THIS. A million times this.

The Quickstep was the first time since about week 2 or the switch up week with Mark that I felt like she earned all that praise from the judges. It WAS amazing to watch her quickstepping all over that dance floor. She looked fabulous. And she proved that she could have been doing more than sitting on a stool or a table or being carried around by Derek all along.

Then Derek had to go and ruin all that good will by dragging out the table he and Amber danced Jazz behind last season. The actual dancing that did not involve sitting on the table was a bit off as well, but no one seemed to care about that except (shockingly) Carrie Ann.

Dance is defined as moving feet or body or both rhythmically. It's not just moving your feet...

...it's defined as moving feet or body or both in a pattern of steps. That surely implies your feet[or some part of your body] must be touching the ground...

Next week is a two nite finale.

Monday - last chance to vote.
Tuesday - 2 hour finale - airing during the finale of Supernatural, which I am NOT missing.

Oh well, if Amy wins, I won't need to watch anyway.

I'm not missing Supernatural either. I'll watch live on Monday, use fb, cell phone and 2 email addresses to vote for Meryl and Maks and catch the spoilers on twitter Tuesday during Spn. If I like the results, I'll watch the show on abc.com later. If not, I'll catch Meryl's dances on youtube.

I am starting to get a sneaking feeling that James is going to somehow run away with this thing. I think he should have been gone weeks ago but his fans are keeping him in there. I think everyone expected that the preteen/teen votes would be wrapped up by Cody Simpson but James very clearly has a stronger base. I have to say that I see "Team JETA!" references all over Twitter when I search the DWTS hashtag and youtube videos of his dances have a TON of views. I don't know how all of that translates to actual votes but he has to be pulling in big numbers.
