Official Dancing With the Stars: Season 18

I really like Tristan. He and Derek are my two favorites. I was looking over the male pro list, though, and I really enjoy all of them, except for Henry who is new. I enjoy Val, especially when he and and Maks get together. Who can forget their conversation last season about how Maks always gets blamed when Val screws up, Val asking who gets blamed when Maks screws up, and Maks responding that he never does? Hilarious. I'm excited that Maks "sex on a stick" is back this season, as well. His teaching style is a bit rough for my tastes, but he gets results and I love to watch him dance. Tony is a giant sweetheart and I love how patient he is with his partners. His smile is so contagious, too. Derek moves unbelievably. I think he is missing bones or something because I can't believe people move the way he does. I also love to see what choreography he comes up with for his Paso each year and whenever they do something different like the fusion dance. Mark doesn't really light my fire anymore, but I cling to who and how he used to be and hope that each season is the season where that guy returns. There is no need to replace Michael Jackson or insert a shimmy or five in each dance. I'm really going to miss Tristan, though. Can't they just bring in someone like Tara Lipinski to be his partner? Just so we can see him?

Henry is new, but he did a couple three people dances (with Derek, I think.) And Henry was instrumental in some of the fancy choreography that was put in. So that could be why he has been moved up to a pro dancer now.

I think Peta really changed things. Her first season she & her partner got booted out in the first couple weeks. But in her second season, she won. And I think the producers now realize there really is some good competitive teachers in their ensemble. They are no longer relying on the old stand by pros who win multiple times. They are willing to bring in fresh blood.

Tristan was good, caring and incredibly patient. But Henry seems to be more ambitious. And he's more creative in his choreography. He might actually give Derek a run for the mirror ball.

They could make the finals or the semi finals but it won't be without a lot of hard work. Just because they are ice dancers does not mean they are a shoo-in for the mirror ball trophy. For one, they will have to learn to spin in the opposite direction they are used to on the ice and there are many other adjustments they will have to make.
They will also be headlining a national skating tour at the same time as competing in the show.

I am looking forward to seeing them as well as others such as Danica and Drew.
Should definitely be interesting!

Kristi Yamaguchi won her season. And I think she was also on tour at the same time.

I saw on the news last night that some website, it might have been Entertainment Tonight, did an informal survey. Meryl, the female ice dancer, was favored to win by 41% over all the others.

Meryl is used to being partnered, (unlike Kristi.) And is used to letting the male lead. Whereas, her ice dancing partner, Charlie, will have to learn the dances and learn to lead them, instead of relying on the pro dancer. That may put him behind in the learning curve. I also think Meryl stands the best chance to win.

I don't rule out Amy as a contender. I went to a meet & greet in Times Square of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic hopefuls for the London Olympics. I met our Paralympic contender for sprinting. He brought his former Paralympic gold medals. I got to hold one. :yay: It was amazing to realize that man, with one prosthetic leg, was faster than most humans on the planet are, with TWO real legs. :worship:

Yeah, Kristi did win her season and Evan Lysacek should have won his and was also touring at the same time.
Meryl isn't necessarily "used to letting a male lead her" because ice dance doesn't necessarily work that way always.

Maks and Meryl posted a photo from practice today and man, she is tiny! Usually Maks gets one of the taller celebs as one of the taller pros but they have a big height difference. I can't really think of a season when he had such a petite partner. Should be interesting to watch. I am just so excited he is back!

DH was sooooo disappointed in that. :sad2: The highlight of the show for him (when he can't find anything else to do) was her bleating Taaaaaam to send back to him.

Not for me, I'm sorry to see her go.

It's an almost sure bet who will win. I wish they would chose contestants who cannot dance or don't have a dancing background at least.

I can hardly wait!

I read something today that they are once again changing the area where the couples sit while the other teams dance. I hated last season's set up with all of them sitting right next to the judges so I am excited for that too.
I can't stand Erin Andrews. That might be enough to keep me away.
She certainly is not that attractive.

Man, I'd hate to be the first to dance.
