Official Dancing With the Stars: Fall 2015

Just checking back in to say... Nick was robbed! Even my husband said, "that guy dances harder than all of them." It doesn't take a trained eye to see that ,Carrie Ann!!

There were bits and pieces of dances that I enjoyed. The stairs part of Andy's dance. The lift that Derick and Bindi did made me laugh out loud. She had some good legs on her tonight. Carlos' part with just the guys. I liked the blend of Nick's dance. Miss those disco days. I felt embarrassed for Paula. Her dance was lame but give her kudos for getting all the arm movements. They definitely were too free with the 10's tonight.

I really liked Nick's dance. With all the Disco you could still see the Samba in it. I liked Bindi's dance but to me it really didn't look like a Rhumba. I liked how it had all the dance moves from the movie. I also liked Andy's dance.

I didn't feel it. Saturday Night Fever is one of my all time favorite movies (except the very end with the bridge.) I think I just can't watch "recreations" of people trying to dance like John Travolta. :headache: :(
That's how I felt about the Grease number. It was a travesty, I tell you! Grease is in my top 3 favorite movies.

No, the lift was shaky because of the female or the one being lifted. (According to my ex-BF.) When I was watching the movie for the first time with my ex-BF, who used to be a dancer, he said Jennifer Grey's balance & weight was all wrong. There IS an actual technique to a lift. He said she didn't know how to balance herself to make herself "light." The closest I can explain it is: anyone had a small kid that just doesn't want to be picked up and moved, like to go to bed? They make themselves into dead weight and heavy, and suddenly they are hard to move or pick up. Whereas, normally you can lift them right up and play piggy-back with no problems. It's kind of like that. Patrick Swayzee, who was an accomplished dancer, even had a hard time lifting Jennifer up because her balance 7 how she held herself was off. She kind of plopped into his arms.

And there Jennifer was again, and the only advice she could give was "Trust yourself." And since Derek didn't know how to teach Bindi to balance her weight properly either, the lift ended up heavy & shaky.
Seems odd, but makes a lot of sense. You would think Derek would know this, doesn't he choreograph ice skaters routines?

I do like Derek with Bindi, he is not gushing, kissing and hugging his partner. I sense a more professional level with him. It was sort of fun though to see Derek a little out of his comfort zone, glad he didn't drop Bindi, I am sure he would of caught her and let himself be hurt, before he would of dropped Bindi. I wonder if Olivia Newton-Jon and Bindi know each other, Olivia did say, "Nice to see you again Bindi."

Very possible with them both being Aussies.

::yes:: That's what I meant by "crisp." Janet Jackson does her moves with a bit of a "snap".
I knew, what you meant and was agreeing....just different phrasing due to years of Pom (every dance teacher's nightmare). ;)

I read that the teams are as follows.
Team 1:
Bindi and Derek
Alexa and Mark
Carlos and Whitney
Alek and Lindsay

Team 2:
Nick and Sharna
Tamar and Val
Andy and Allison
Hayes and Emma

Reading that, I would think that team 1 had the advantage. First, Derek has never lost a team dance. Second, Derek and Mark always work so well together and Whitney and Lindsay have been dancing together for most of their lives. Lindsay and Whitney will just have to match Alexa and Bindi and Derek and Mark will just have to match Alek and Carlos. Seems easier than the prod from team 2 who might have been dancing together for years, but that's not the same as dancing their together for most of their lives. Thoughts?

I agree with you about the teams. I think Team 2 will be a bit on the edgier side while Team 1 will be more technical maybe? I think one team has Ghostbusters for their song. I'll have to double check.

I love Nick, but he has my three least favorite contestants on his team. And Allison...:scared:

Derek only has to tell them, "Put a lift in here." He didn't have to teach them how to do one. Meryl & Charlie probably learned how to do lifts back when they were 12 or whenever they started partnering for figure skating. Plus they had a professional coach who taught them back then how it's done. Either Meryl & Charlie probably would have been a better coach for Derek & Bindi than Jennifer Grey as they could have given real, useful tips.

Another way to think of how it's up to the person being lifted to know how to balance her weight right is with a trapeze artist.

The trapeze bar isn't really doing any work. SHE is the one who has to know how to balance her weight on it as it's lifting her up. Replace the bar with Derek's hands and it's still the same principle.

Sorry I am a little behind. I thought last week’s show was really good. I enjoyed Andy and Nick. Bindi did really good, but I’m just not a big fan of that movie. I think Alexa or Tamar will be going home on Monday.
