'Official Dancing With the Stars' Celebrity and Professional Pairs Revealed!

I get tired of everyone (on the show) saying how they feel sorry for her. First she wasn't forced to be on tv with her family. They wanted it and enjoyed a large amount of it along with the money they made. Sry but boo hoo that she is going through a bad spot in her life. Welcome to the club! Everyone has their own problems and issues going on. It's how they deal with. My life hasn't been easy (19 had a baby and 9 months later my DH got leukemia. Fought like crazy to beat it after he was given 2 yrs to live. told we couldn't have kids docs were wrong and we had two more. Money in the past was an issue with medical bills, layed off a job, bad economy, etc. son was born and in NICU first week of his life, the story goes on and on) We didn't give up and we pushed through our problems. Kate has TONS of money to help deal with her issues unlike most of us. She is getting paid to be on the show if she couldn't handle it with what is going on in her life then she shouldn't have done it. She needs to quit playing the poor me game b/c it's getting old! She wasn't trying...if she was she sure made it look like she wasn't. There are plenty of other people who would have loved to be there and she blew it off like she was doing them a favor.

Someone said the pro's pay stops when they get booted, unlike the celeb who gets paid no matter how long they are there. Anyone know if that is actually true?

I have read a few things about this - I googled it now and this statement seems consistent with what I have read in the past regarding the celebs:

"Dancing with the Stars celebrity contestants get a base salary of $125,000 and bonuses for each week they stay on. Bonuses range from $10,000 to $50,000 (for the final weeks). The winner gets an extra $100,000."

For the pros:
"As for the professional dancers, the only references we could find (also undated) said they make 5,200 per episode, up from around $1,600 in earlier seasons. Even that higher number seems seriously low at this point, given the show's success and the increasing popularity of some of the pros"

I would think the ones that come back in and do dances and different things get a union scale for that week.

But I don't know - just what I have googled and have consistently read.

ITA! Did anyone see Good Morning America. Now Kate claims that she didn't allow the kids to watch the judging part of the show because it was upseting the kids too much. This woman is a pathological liar. What did she have the nanny turn the tv off after her dance before the judges gave their scores?? I don't get it--were they allowed to watch the elimination show? If no, then why the "I love you" at the end of the show?? Get your story straight Kate--you didn't belong on the show in the first place. This is the kind of show you have to work at something besides exploiting your kids and degrading your husband and family!

She has said that all along. They tape it and the kids see the parts they want them to see, and don't see the second part until it's over and she is either still on or can tell them she is off. She has said that in several interviews. So I'm not sure I see the lie.

She was asked to be on the show, knowing she couldn't dance. IMO the blame is with DWTS producers for putting people on just for ratings. They also should have made it their business to know she would have a book coming out and would be busy pushing that, as well as kids that would take up some of her time. Just like the ice skater is now off skating. They all have other lifes.

Luckily she is off now, and another dancer better than her is still on the show for us to enjoy.

I was going to say I would miss all the discussions on how she did on the show, but I think those will go on forever..more attention going her way LOL.

I don't buy her excuses either. I am glad there will now be a trust set for the children from any future shows they will be on, so they can someday see something monetary from their success, not the parents. I can't believe they would be that broke right now that she had to do DWTS, she was hoping to close the deals on other TV shows based on her "popularity". If I was going through a nasty divorce in the public eye, this would be the time to keep a low profile, not parade around LA with 7 hour hair sessions.

I think the truth is more likely that she didn't want the kids to see her criticized and found wrong. Maybe then, the two older kids might realize, "Hey, they sound just like Daddy, when he says she's doing something wrong. Maybe Daddy is not so far off as Mommy's been saying he is." :scratchin I'm sure a control freak/perfectionist wouldn't want her kids to see her in less than a perfect light.

A normal, healthy parent would teach their kids that there will be times they will get criticized, and one has to put on her big girl panties and take it. :p

Hasn't a trust been in place all this time? I thought there was some law or union regulation called the "Jackie Coogan law" or the name of some child star from back in the 60's who was worked like a dog when he was a child, doing a TV series. He essentially had no childhood. When he turned 18 and asked where the money was, he found out his parents had spent it all on themselves. HE was broke & penniless, when he should have come into money for college. (Or something like that.)

I know when I visit my makeup artist friend on the set sometimes, I see children who are extras coming on set to work and someone has to check for their birth certificates and some sort of documentation that a trust has been set up for them, where their paycheck directly goes into. Wasn't a trust set up for the kids before?

Maybe Kate & Jon are broke because they spent all the money they each made, while the kids' money is safely tucked away in trust.

I would think the money Kate spent on a dance studio in her basement should have come out of her own funds, or something she negotiated with DWTS. She shouldn't be allowed to spend the kids' money. :(

When it was put in it was said in one of the announcements DWTS put it in, so she could rehearse from home.

I wonder if they have done that for any other dancer.

That's why I was wondering if some of it came out of her expenses. Otherwise, every star should get their own dance studio where they want and have themselves flown in each week for the show.

Maybe next season, they can set it up to have Sarah Palin rehearse in her home dance studio in Alaska, & fly her in every week. ;)

Didn't they also pay for her hair extensions?

I suspect they make production allowances for all of the couples - they fly the pros with the stars to wherever they need to be during the week and practice wherever they are - they are likely paying for practice space, hotels, et. A dance floor in her basement is probably one of the lesser expenses when compared to some of the other couples.

It sure didn't look like Evan and Anna were on a commercial flight to his Ice shows last week.

It's not just a floor. It's also wall to ceiling mirrors & special lighting so the rehearsals can be filmed. But, I see what you mean.

I know Bruno and Len were flying overseas everyweek and flying back on Sunday because they were judging a competition over there. I don't know who paid the airfare, but I'm sure they weren't sitting in coach.
When they showed Evan traveling to his ice skating duties they showed him and Anna getting on a lear jet like the one Donald Trump travels on.
My memory of the Gosselin's on a plane trip was in the back of a Southwest airlines plane with tons of helpers and Kate having a meltdown!

It must depend on what they expect the celeb to bring to the table in ratings and how they negotiated.
I forgot that they would have had to come up with studio time and fly Evan and Anna. Is Evan (I do like him!) skating every week?

Tony had mentioned that he usually spends time home with his child each week, but he spent less time this competition, since he had to go to PA to practice. I wonder if they fly the teaching dancers back and forth. It could get pretty pricey for them, if they have to pay it.

The news here said that the investigation into child labor laws found that the children did not have work permits during the taping the show. While they decided not to pursue charges against TLC and Gosselins, the PA Department of Labor said that 15% of proceeds must be placed in trust for the children. Gosselins attorney said that a trust was put in place in November (this past year). So during the years of the show, a trust was just put in place last year :confused3. Before then, Kate has called their house "the kid's house" and neither parent owns it.

This makes me think that the professional dancers are being paid pretty good to disrupt their personal lives for x amount of weeks. The last time we were in California we could of been in the audience as there were free tickets available. One of the criteria was that you had to be pretty dressed up. At the time it didn't really interest us, but if I had the chance again I would definately go watch.:happytv:

:confused3 The time they had the long delay, and Kate hadn't flown often? Beth was with them. I remember that. I felt bad for her and the kids who were pretty upset.

I'm sure she's used to flying now..it's been a long time since that trip, and lots of water over the bridge (or is it under LOL?).

And I'd bet it hurts less if DWTS is paying for the flying.

Just 15%????????

That's robbery! Why AREN'T charges being pursued? Who is looking out for the welfare of these right kids? The money that should have gone to the kids, should be being replaced. All their "fans" should be in an outrage over this. They watched the kids, they essentially supported what should have been money going to them. (I have no problem with that. We all have our favorite Reality TV shows.) But, to find all this time, their viewership went to support the deep pockets of the parents and not enough for the kids, is unreal.

I hate to make this about Kate and not DWTS, but remember, depending on income, they prob paid 50% in taxes. That leaves 35% for the care of the kids after banking money for them. Although I think they just need to do this from now on, not go backwards. The paperwork is all online. The parents said they did put money away for the kids, although not a trust, each child has an account and college is taken care of. Is it true..who knows. .

That they didn't charge them, makes me wonder if TLC is right, when they say they didn't need permits and would have fought it. Maybe it wasn't worth the fight, if PA thought they would lose.

The children seem to be well taken care of, and I hope they really do have accounts and have had them.

Now, for me, back to DWTS and the dancers that are left.

Kids on reality TV shows, like John & Kate Plus 8, are not considered "child actors" and didn't come under them same laws. Because of J & K, that is being scrutinized in Pennsylvania and elsewhere. That's why no trusts were set-up until last year when the investigation was announced.

These parents exploited their children for their gain.

Hopefully, Kate's 15 minutes of fame are up!

Edie
