Official Dancing With the Stars (cast revealed)

I just watched last night's episode and I am a very happy girl! I absolutely love the final 3 and would be happy with any of them winning: Gilles for his sexuality on the dance floor, Melissa for her grace and Shawn for her athleticism.

I think Giles will win, although we want Shawn to win. The only reason I'm down on Melisssa is that SHE'S A DANCER for goodness sakes. Not really her fault - she got the call and jumped on it - but I think it goes against the spirit of the show.

Didn't Gilles' family and friends mention something about having a passion for dance or having dance experience in the little clip they showed? Maybe I heard it wrong.

I don't understand why everyone jumps on Melissa since she has ballet and cheerleading experience. Did all the professional performers (Drew Lachey, Scary Spice, Joey Fatone, etc...) get that kind of backlash too? Not trying to stir the pot, just wondering if people reacted the same way with them.

That said, I really hope either Gilles or Melissa win it. I love them both!

I guess that because Melissa's resume is "light" - besides being a reality show contestant, she's only "known" for being a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, which is really a dancer, rather than a cheerleader. If dance was way back in her background, I don't think anyone would mind...it's just that with her, it's the only thing.

Yup. Gille's best friend said that he always liked dancing and had natural rhythm. He also said he liked to "moonwalk" like Michael Jackson.

I didn't know who Gilles was until the show. I never saw the movie Sex and the City. I also didn't know Ty because I don't follow rodeo. ETA: but you do have a point. She is best known as being on The Bachelor and being dumped on national TV ... a thin resume as you put it. BUT ... she still has a lot of legitimate fans from the show.

I was trying to think of a dancer who is better known for something else. I came up with Bebe Neuwirth. If she would have been on DWTS at the time of "Cheers", we all would have been amazed that Lilith could dance! She was known to the world as the humorless psychiatrist who married Frasier, but she was a dance major at Julliard. It might not have been a fair fight, but at least she would have had a firm identity in the public eye as something other than a dancer.

I had never heard of Giles (or lots of the other ones) before the show. Melissa is actually one I knew because we watch that DCC show on CMT.

Thanks for clearing that up! I've watched the shows for awhile, but never paid any attention to commentary from others until this season. I think missypie is right, Melissa isn't known for anything else -- other than being a scorned Bachelorette and the DCC show.

I saw the SATC movie, but I only remembered Gilles' for his famous...asset, shall we say? He's an amazing dancer and seems like a really nice person as well. I hope something good comes from his appearance on the show!

There are so many of the Broadway stars that most of us have never heard of until they star in a TV series - look at Jerry Orbach - won a Tony, nominated for several more, but most of us know him from Law and Order.

Oh yes! She has two Tony awards for Sweet Charity and Chicago.

BTW, I just read that she will play Morticia in the upcoming Addams Family musical with Nathan Lane as Gomez. That sounds like a hoot!

Jesse Martain too. I had no idea he was a song and dance guy until Rent came out! We always laugh when we see them on Law and Order together!

Yeah. Her's should have been better, but as stated, they went for the cheerleader dance.
Shawn's was much better and much more enjoyable.

What a great Morticia!!

Nathan Lane was another "overnight success" that took 20 years because he was on Broadway and on a lark auditioned for a voice character in "The Lion King"

I agree with the judges on Gilles dance. I would have loved to see him dance more and less of Cheryl.

Was anyone else disappointed at tonight's freestyles?

I expected SO much from Cheryl & Gille & was really disappointed. Melissa & Tony were a let down as well~ I actually think Shawn was the best as far as fun, actual dancing & having the most growth during the season.

If you asked me last week who would win I would have said Cheryl & Gille 100% positive.

I was quite surprised with the Freestyle Routines.

I personally do not like Melissa, she is a good dancer but I don't feel that she should be in the finals. Just my personal opinion.

I was very frustrated with Giles and Cheryl as well. It was all Cheryl and Giles is a great dancer that was very dissappointing.

Melissa did a Cheer Dance that is all that it was and again dissappointing.

Shawn was amazing and yes she did a few tricks but really was entertaining and she DANCED!
