What we have to remember about casting is that it's casting for a TV show, so there are casting folks trying to figure out who would attract the most viewers. We may care about "fair" but they don't. They just want the most viewers.

There's a local singer who is incredibly talented. He's gone to the American Idol cattle calls a couple of times and has never gotten past square one. He says they send the judges a lot more bad singers than good ones. Of course they do. If a city attracts 5000 candiates, you know that at least 100 of them have to be very talented, but instead the judges see 10 good ones and 40 horrible ones.

But those folks aren't auditioning for a music producer or for the admissions committee at Juliard - they are trying to be cast members in a TV show. Very different things.

Count me in as another one disappointed that Gilles didn't win. In my opinion, every dance he did was really, really good. When a judge tells you that after watching you dance, they couldn't tell who the professional was and who the student was (early on, too) ... that says something.

But I do think this will be a good springboard for his career ... as long as it doesn't knock him out of doing the DWTS tour ... because I'll be in line early for those tickets.

Me too, Gilles was robbed as far as I am concerned.WHY do they have Olympic people on the show, anyway, they ALL have an advantage! Melissa did too, but Shawn? She already won a gold medal didn't she? Acckkkk...and she has Fat thighs too, THERE I said it!!!

That is truly offensive. As others have pointed out, she is a great role model for young girls. Imagine that, a teen girl on TV that is not stick thin. If you're unhappy that Gilles didn't win, I understand that. But there is no reason for remarks such as yours.

Gymnasts can't get a break - if they're built like the Chinese gymnasts (who I still think were 12), they're accused of having eating disorders and if they're muscular, they're accused of being fat.

(Of course, one of the Chinese divers who won gold said she was going to celebrate by eating dinner because for a long time she had been allowed only 2 meals a day to keep her weight down!)

Yeah, if ONLY we could all have strong, muscular fat-free thighs like Shawn! I would LOVE that! I think she's a spectacular role-model for young ladies- she's cute, she's positive, she's got grit, talent and tenacity. You go girl!!! I just think Gilles should've won it!

There is some interview on Comcast.net with Karina. She made some really snarky comment about how they all wonder WHY the powers that be at ABC 'always' give Cheryl the 'good dancers'. It was a total whine. I know Cheryl has had a few seasons where she did not get to even the half way point! I just think she is an excellent teacher. Maybe this new Anna chick can knock Karina out! Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're an excellent dancer, but you're also rude and not pleasant to watch sometimes, so maybe the ABC execs know exactly what they're doing!

I'm no fan of Cheryl, but she did have Wayne Newton and Ian Ziering (who she didn't seem to like.) I don't remember who else she had.

And who knew Gilles would be good? He could have been a Steve O or even LT. Karina had Mario Lopez her first season and that other Mario guy wasn't that bad. I just don't think he had the fan base. I would have thought Billy Ray Cyrus would have been better. She's a whiner and she is bringing Max down!

I remember my older sister telling me when I was in 4th grade that if I kept up with dance lessons, I'd get muscular thighs. I was horrified and quit! At 51, and with a few *ahem* extra pounds, I'd KILL for muscular thighs now!

Boy I would hate for you to see my 8 year old daughter who is on the way to have thighs like Shawn considering she is in the gym 10 - 15 hours a week. I can tell you that those "Fat thighs" are hours of hard work and conditioning. I am sure that even the conditioning that my DD does many adults would not be able to do.

Wow - I guess we see totally opposite! I've always thought that they scored Melissa pretty fairly. And Gilles has always come off as a genuinely nice guy!

I was on youtube taking a trip down memory lane and I was watching Patty Smyth/Scanda l(McEnroe was on Bonnie Hunt today) videos. In the "Beat of a Heart" video there is a cop - around 2:00 to 2:30 and my first thought was that it looks like Bruno!!! Check it out and let me know what you think!!!

ETA: I googled and could not find anything on this, but I did find he choreographed "Ella Enchanted" and a couple episodes of "Ab FAb" which I loved!!!!
