I like the "mythology arcs" as Marlowe likes to call them; I think it's fun digging out little clues here and there even when something else is the priority of the day. I don't think they are going to be able to do that as seamlessly with the Rick's Disappearance story as the were with the Who Killed Joanna story -- unless -- someone is still after him. That was what made it plausible that Beckett and Co. would keep stumbling over things related to her mother's murder; Beckett's potential ability to successfully sniff him out was a loose end that Bracken could not resist trying to tie off. So, what would be the motivation for whoever/whatever diverted Castle to keep him alive but out of it? If digging is dangerous, wouldn't it be better for the baddies if he were dead? Or is he worth more to them alive? (This has clear potential for becoming some sort of Manchurian Candidate homage, I think. Think they can convince Angela Lansbury to do a guest shot sometime this season?)
As to Montreal, I rather liked it; we appear to be getting back on track. It was cute that the toy company's signature product was a doll that is a caricature of Molly Flynn. My favorite line? "Need I remind you I'm a grown man? I don't need to ask your permission. ... That being said, please, please, please can I go?" (Also, clearly, the safe deposit manager knows something.)
Yeah, I love the continuing mysteries - Kate's mom's story, the mystery of Castle's dad, why Rick became a murder mystery writer - and it is very important part of the show. One of the many reasons I love it. And so far, I'm loving this little mystery of what happened to Rick, and so far, I have no theory - I'm going with the flow. (maybe because my guesses are always so so wrong, LOL). I kinda like your guess however.
And I loved this episode - the scene you mentioned from Rick's "It's Canada, how risky could it be?" (very funny from Mr. Canada himself) to the lines you mentioned to Kate letting him go because Alexis will be with him and keep him out of trouble. And I agree -that bank manager knows something. And another interesting thing - remember in "Cops & Robber" back in Season 4 - when Rick & Martha were held hostage in the bank? Remember Rick mentioning that safety deposit box keys do not have numbers on them, that's why the bad guys wanted the hostage situation? Well, I guess Canadian banks are different since the 38 on the key was the box number!
Also, this episode clearly was for Nathan Fillion - and he was up to it. He was great.
And I think you mean Molly Quinn.
