Official "Castle" thread! Spoilers welcomed!

No need to apologize to me ... I didn't much like it, either. ;) I think that the decision to release a sneak the very next morning indicates that the network is well aware that the ep. was weak. Normally you don't get a official sneak until Thursday. I will say that not contacting Castle's father wasn't an issue for me; that feeling came from other plot points (or lack thereof). All indications from his past appearances give the impression that no one knows how to contact Castle's father, except perhaps his Paris handler, and only Castle knew who that was. Of course, Dad probably did hear about the situation in the press, but presumably was not in position to surface at that time ... at least not that we currently know of.

I think I figured it out. Castle is a relatively character driven show & to me this episode had a really weak, plot point driven, feel. None of the characters seemed like themselves. Beckett was missing that determination. Javi doubting Castle right away & then Ryan too at one point.

I went back & re watched the Bracken scene to me it played like Bracken & 3XK, both solid possibilities were blown off, but Castle was seen with suspicion & doubt. Makes no sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if his dad is involved somehow in this.

That was what bothered me too. Okay, maybe I can think that Castle had second thoughts about getting married, maybe... but I do NOT for even a second believe that he would walk away from his daughter & mother. NOPE!

And that wasn't even addressed. At all. They were like cardboard characters during the show.

They were so non-reactive that I thought if this whole story line turns out to be a dream I am gonna be  for wasting my time with it.

Mom and I are watching an old rerun of McMillan and Wife. Guess who's guest starring. Castle's mommy! And she was just murdered.

I'll be honest, my least favorite part of the show are these long term mysteries. Her mothers murder, 3XK, Bracken, Castle's dad.

I know they weren't going to give it all up and solve it in one episode but there was just SO little. I'll be irritated and probably give up if this drags on all season. I like the campy fun. I like when Nathan gets to be silly.

I dislike the drawn out story lines as well. DH and I watched both episodes last night and were underwhelmed.

Why did Castle take the man who was holding a gun on him word as truth? Castle could have told him the story about why he became a writer because he wanted the man to remind him of the events. For instance, Castle and the guy were in the same room and Castle thought he could trust the man. Castle either suffers head injuries or maybe a drug and he knows his memory is going. So he asks the man to remind him of the events so he can see whoever has done this brought to justice. He then tells the man the story.

However the man is either a plant (by who captured Castle) or a fellow prisoner who didn't want it to drag out further and possible endanger his life.

I hope this case has an ending or is forgotten. I don't want to waste episodes rehashing events or trying to remember who is who in the case.

I like the "mythology arcs" as Marlowe likes to call them; I think it's fun digging out little clues here and there even when something else is the priority of the day. I don't think they are going to be able to do that as seamlessly with the Rick's Disappearance story as the were with the Who Killed Joanna story -- unless -- someone is still after him. That was what made it plausible that Beckett and Co. would keep stumbling over things related to her mother's murder; Beckett's potential ability to successfully sniff him out was a loose end that Bracken could not resist trying to tie off. So, what would be the motivation for whoever/whatever diverted Castle to keep him alive but out of it? If digging is dangerous, wouldn't it be better for the baddies if he were dead? Or is he worth more to them alive? (This has clear potential for becoming some sort of Manchurian Candidate homage, I think. Think they can convince Angela Lansbury to do a guest shot sometime this season?)

As to Montreal, I rather liked it; we appear to be getting back on track. It was cute that the toy company's signature product was a doll that is a caricature of Molly Flynn. My favorite line? "Need I remind you I'm a grown man? I don't need to ask your permission. ... That being said, please, please, please can I go?" (Also, clearly, the safe deposit manager knows something.)
