Official "Castle" thread! Spoilers welcomed!

Marlowe has done it again: teased the fandom to intense anticipation for a conversation that Caskett has already had -- off-camera. There was no surprise between them in the discussions about having children; they've obviously discussed the possibility and have agreed that it is something that they want to do.

The "oh no, what if? on Castle's part wasn't about having children in general, it was about his not wanting to to be married to another hands-off Mom, especially during the labor-intensive early years. (There is a difference between not being automatically enchanted by all babies, vs. being irritated by and abdicating the day-to-day responsibility of caring for one that is yours.)

Speaking of that last point, I wonder if the writers will choose to set up a conflict in the Ryan household over the issue of hands-on parenting? Kevin is obviously obsessing over the issue of finances. I can see him having problems calming a fussy infant and deciding that he should focus instead on the breadwinner part of parenting, while Jenny gets more and more irritated with how much time he is spending at work..

I think I've figured out the timeline of the engagement & Alexis leaving for Costa Rica.

Alexis was going to be in CR for 6 weeks, she left a week early, so 5 weeks. After the proposal scene, the action jumped ahead 2 months or 8 weeks. That was the same day that Rick came home from his book tour, and when he got home he found that Alexis was there. So they were engaged about 3 weeks when she left....and they didn't tell her in those 3 weeks. So I can understand Alexis being pissed that she didn't know.

Happy Thanksgiving! TNT is having an all day marathon of Castle today - it started at 10 AM with the first episode.

Lots to love in "The Good, The Bad & The Baby"

Let's start with the quotes:

As they walk into the church, which was a crime scene:
Castle: "When we do this, let's not do the dead body in the middle of the aisle."
Beckett: "Good call."

Earlier, in the loft, when they are discussing Thanksgiving:

Beckett: "So is there anything else I should know about you before we get married?"
Castle: "So many, many things."

(an echo of something Beckett said to Castle)

baby stuff:

Castle: "I have an R.H.D. in childcare."
Beckett: "And an 'R.H.D.' is?"
Castle: "Ruggedly handsome dad."

Castle: Babies love me. I'm the baby whisperer.

Castle: "That's a grownup lying. Get used to it."

Beckett: "I'm suddenly getting a clear and frightening visual as to what my future will look like."

Castle: "What do you say, Beckett? Wanna have a baby? Come on, it'll be fun!"

The morning after:

Alexis: "How long have I been gone?"

Castle (to Ryan): "You see this face? This is the face of your future."

the dumpster conversation:

Castle: "You take me to the most exotic places."

Beckett: "When the time comes, there's no way I'm going to let you take care of our baby on your own."

All together now: Awwwww!

Espo (to Ryan, after he worried about what kind of dad he’ll be): "Well, you care. That already makes you a hundred times better than the dad I had."

Castle, after Beckett mentioned she missed the baby already: "Maybe in a few Thanksgivings from now, we'll have a couple Bennys of our own running around."
Then this:
Alexis: "Hey, if you guys have kids in a few years and I have kids in a few years, they can grow up together."
Castle: "And it's ruined."

and this is probably the best quote of the episode:

Beckett: "Watch those balls."
Castle: "No. Not touching it."

I think after that creepy episode of the week before, we really needed light & fun, and this episode fit the bill.

That was one freaking adorable baby (well, of course it was more than one, and even sometimes a doll) but still.

The sneak peek scene of them with the baby had so much fun stuff - from Kate telling him that if "this is you way of turning me into a baby person, it's not working" to her slippers, to her "I'm not laughing" while holding back laughter to the Mission Impossible diaper change, the whole scene was priceless.

Love Lanie coming to them to discuss the facts of the cause all while snuggling with Cosmo/Benny and talking in that sing-song voice we all tend to use with infants.

I think everyone in the cast (except Espo) got to hold him at least once. I loved how natural Martha looked - she's ready to be a grandma again!

The 2 high fives - baby/Rick & Martha/Kate - were perfect.

Even the case was interesting. Kept me guessing until the end - but as soon as they showed the lottery drawing I put the pieces together. Loved that the victim was a hero.

All in all, a really good classic Castle episode. And now the winter hiatus - after 10 episodes in a row, we now have to wait about 6 weeks for the next new episode. No episode this coming Monday, then the week after that, they're repeating Still for the first time. :thumbsup2

What episode are they showing tomorrow? I hope that it's one that I've seen. I'm staying up for cyber Mon tonight. I won't make it until 10 pm tomorrow night. :faint:

No episode tomorrow at all. And no new episodes until Jan. 6th. Winter hiatus time.

Oh, good! I'll be lucky if I stay up past 8 tomorrow night. I still got another hour to go before my sale goes live. :coffee:

Wait, if she left for CR a week early, wouldn't that put her there for 7 weeks instead of 5, meaning they didn't tell her for a week? Or did you mean she didn't stay in CR the full 6 weeks?
