Torn as to what to do...I finished the Enchanted 10k a few weeks ago and my first thought was to do the 5k for our cruise leaving 3/20 but i haven't been running since the 10k on the 21st. How strict are they on time? My 5k split was 16:38 min/mile.
Also..do ppl dress up like they do for the WDW races??
The normal 5K on the island is free and is a fun run. They aren't strict at all, and dressing up might be fun, but isn't something that seems to be done. Afterall, you get off the ship, go off and sweat in the Bahamas sun for a time, then go spend your day on the beach. There's just no need to dress up.
I'm confused. I am interested in learning more about the CC Challenge. I am planning on doing the Food & Wine 5K and the following week will be on a cruise and hope to do the CC 5K. I thought that running/walking in each was considered the Challenge. From reading this thread it looks like there is a different course and that it may not be offered. How does the CC Challenge work? Thank you in advance
The CC Challenge is a brand new thing that, so far, has been ONLY done twice. The Dream 4 night after the January Marathon weekend, and the Dream 4 night after the February Princess weekend. It was an extra cost to sign up for the 5K ($65 for a 5K, how does Disney do this?) AFTER you already signed up for at least one event over the race weekend. They were supposed to have special things onboard (one special recover smoothie, some tshirts a pin bondibands and a magnet for the January cruise) but it wasn't anything like what they said it would be. They had to get to CC with enough time to make SURE they docked, so we booked it from Nassau and docked at midnight. (same thing happened for the one after Princess, according to Jennifer of Passporter) The Challenge participates got to meet at 5:45 and leave the ship before the sun dawned. This is hours earlier than the normal 5K meets and starts.
I think rundisney got the idea from so many of us doing the running events and then taking a cruise and doing the 5K on our own. And, truly, doing the normal free 5K IS a challenge! It's amazing to actually run while on a vacation. It's a great way to stretch the legs.
They have only offered it for the two runs this year. Like I said the other day, only rundisney knows if they will continue to run the paid event. But as far as any of us know, they WILL continue to do the free "island 5K" (that's how they referred to the free one).
