This is a very good but lengthy chat... I was hoping that I could just remind everyone to post the following..

When posting photos on the chatter thread please include:

Price
Date Received
Location
Cake info - Flavors, special requests, etc
Anything else special about that particular cake

That way the rest of us who are considering a cake order has this info when you post pics of your cake. It would really be appreciated. There are some beautiful cakes and no info posted regarding order information. I can understand not alway knowing this especially if you are a recipient of a surprise cake.

Suggestion... since there has been some concern about the quality of cakes lately... if you do end up with a great cake would you be willing to share with us exactly what you did to order the cake? Did you send a pic? Did you give specific details?

I would hate to think that getting a great cake is hit or miss.

Welcome to the home of the
Official Cake Chatter Thread

There have been many requests for a cake thread that is more of a gallery and shows photos and cake info only, without any chatter about cakes. Well we want everyone to have that, but what good is food if you can't talk about it too?

So everyone gets their ideal cake experience we've created this chatter thread especially for talking about cakes. Have a headache ordering one? This is the place to vent. Was your cake experience the pixie dust filled adventure that you expected, this is the place to share!

This is ALSO the place to originally post those cake photos. The moderators will move them to the THIS CAKE GALLERY shortly after you post. When you post a picture, please also include:

When posting photos on the chatter thread please include:

Price
Date Received
Location
Cake info - Flavors, special requests, etc
Anything else special about that particular cake

(To those viewing the gallery - Please remember that cakes ordered a long time ago may no longer be relevant, or available, but are still pretty to look at)

Can't wait to see and talk about all of the new cakes!

New "Cake Hotline" for ordering special occassion cakes!
There is a "Cake Hotline" for Guests requesting celebratory cakes at most Table Service dining locations. The Cake Hotline number is 407-827-2253 and requires 48 hours notice.

Does anyone have an updated email for cake orders? I tried to use the one in the above post 2 times and it keeps coming back undeliverable:confused3

Our anniversary cake at Jiko. Theme Jack & Sally, unfortunately I had to use a disposable camera and the photos came out terrible! The cake however was a work of art and we couldn't be more pleased. I am so bummed about the camera quality, but I was able to get a decent snapshot of the topper back at our room!

Now that's a cake worth spending $70 on. Maybe I should call there and see if I can get a cake to go since I'll have access to a car.

ETA: Do you know the exact number that you used to order from AKL and with whom you spoke?

I am so glad I found this thread, thank you all for your posts and pictures.

I have looked through most of the pages and was wondering if anyone has ordered a cake that has Winnie the Pooh and friends as the theme? I am hoping to order a cake for DD's birthday when we eat at Crystal Palace. TIA

I'm sure it's too late for me to do anything about it now, but ordered a cake from AKL and they only offered a zebra cake, Mickey head cake, or round vanilla cake. How did you order yours? I called private dining. Did you ask to speak to the chef?

I called the Cake Hotline number at 407-827-2253 about 4 or 5 weeks out. I followed the prompts to order for the AKL and when the lady on the phone explained the cakes to me, I told her I was looking for something more elaborate. She offered to have the chef at Jiko call me. I received a call from the Sous chef, Frank Vega, shortly after, he took my info and then had the head chef call me. I believe I heard from the head chef the next day. He took down flavors, ect.

After we were served the cake, Frank Vega came out to meet us, he in fact made the cake himself, not the head chef. I would definitely order again!

I will be ordering a cake in a couple of weeks for AKL. Can you post a pic of your cake with some specifics please? And, thanks for the info on the chef!

Thanks for the info. That cake is great!

This cake was only $70.00 ?? Good for you !!!

I didn't follow the rules. This is a cake we got the second week in Sept. at The Wave. It was around $80-85 I believe but I had ordered 2 chocolate covered strawberries. Hard to remember because we were on dining plan and I also ordered a beer and used TIW for that. But close to that price. It was vanilla with bavarian cream and strawberries. My only real request was the writing must say "I TINK everyone has the right to my opinion" and I wanted the Tink chocolate statue painted so you could see the colors. Everything else I left up to the person that made it. It came with a milk chocolate castle that was a 6 piece puzzle. It was everything I wanted. the cake was delicious. I only had a few bites and dd had a piece. The rest we gave away to other diners.

I called 407-827-2253 followed the prompts. For Contemporary I believe it was 7 then 1. Spoke with Sally. She was great. Wrote it down perfectly. Made sure it was exactly what I wanted.

I just called the Grand Floridian private dining and talked to Doug about ordering something special for Tea on December 13. He was soooo nice and I feel confident it will be a success. I didn't want cake but rather candy. I requested a "painted" white chocolate Mickey Mouse and dark chocolate candy with a "ribbon" greeting. I will be very surprised if things aren't as I ordered/hoped but it certainly won't ruin my trip if that's what happens. Thank you to everyone who has posted useful information and experiences on this thread.

I will also call a couple of weeks ahead of time to make sure everything is as it should be. :santa:

He said it would be about $55 plus a $3 delivery charge.

So I just got off the phone with the GF bakery. I want to order a cake for my DD9 at 1900 Park Fare in 2 weeks. Wow, they really try to push the 6" cakes on you. Anyhow, I spoke with a lady named Gloriamar (sp?) and she was pleasant. But not helpful. I requested a 10" chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream filling. No problem there. Then I said I wanted the frosting to be blue and she said they don't do that? I told her to please write down that I want the cake blue. She agreed. Then I wanted a white chocolate tinker bell statue and she said they couldn't do that. I said I'd seen it done in the past and she told me that if I put it on my cake, it would sink because it's too heavy. Ugh. So I kindly persisted and then she said she needed to check with the chef first. I waited patiently and she came back and said they can put a white chocolate tink statue on top. I also requested that tinker bell be painted life-like and she told me they only do the gold highlights, no colors. Blech! So again I kindly persisted that I wanted tink colored and she said she made a note of it. I think I'll call again and try to speak with someone else. This lady didn't seem to know what she was doing. :confused3 She was very friendly but not too helpful.

I just got off the phone with Pat at the GF. Ordered a cake for December trip at 1900 Park Fare for dinner. I ordered an 8 inch cake vanilla with chocolate buttercream frosting and filling. Then, covered with red fondant with the gold mickey and hidden character stamps around it. With Snow flakes and Christmas Colored flowers/decorations on top. It will say Happy Disney Holidays! I am so excited.... but was more expensive than I thought.... $85.00. It better be excellent for that!:goodvibes

Just spoke with someone at the CR private dining - I've ordered a cake to be delivered to our room next Sunday (tried to have IPO order it but they told me I had to call myself).

I've ordered a 10inch vanilla cake with chocolate filling and icing *with a monorail on it*. She said they would have to call me back tomorrow to confirm that they could do it and what the cost would be (she said it would probably be $45 for the cake and $45 for the monorail).

She also said they could do an edible image of the monorail. I told her if that's all they could do, I'd rather just have "regular" decorations. I used to be a cake decorater and I really dislike edible images. I think they look cheesy and have had a negative impact on the industry (a lot of places are now paying unskilled people to make cakes for minimum wage instead of paying a real decorator to create a cake).

So now I just need to wait for my call tomorrow.

Good Luck - I went that route too - and was charged for this "statue" (needless to say I was not pleased!)

and we were at 1900 Park fare - - when we checked in I got a ticket to give to our server so we could keep the cake a "surprise" that CM server was just not helpful... to the point we wont be eating at 1900 park fare!

has anyone ordered a cake at Artist Point with an edible image? I'm thinking about emailing the cake people to see if they would be able to do a cake with an edible image on it for our upcoming trip!

Any pics or advice would be great!

Oh no! That's not good. I'm going to call back and talk with someone else about my order then. The lady quoted me $45 for the 10" cake and $28 for the chocolate statue of tinker bell. She also was rushing me through our phone call too. Isn't that strange, here I'm willing to spend a good amount of $ for a cake and she's trying to sell my the 6" one instead? I thought the theme of the year was What Will You Celebrate? Don't most celebrations include a cake?

BTW, I know your cake wasn't what you ordered but I did think it was very pretty. Hope it at least tasted good!:goodvibes

I've already ordered for our trip in Feb - however I'm having IPO deal with the ordering of it for me.

Interesting - when I was planning our trip for last June, the IPO was going to take care of ordering our cakes, then called me one day and told me they could no longer handle cake orders, that they had to be arranged personally thru the cake hotline.
