:rotfl: Thank you for that link! I've laughed so much at the cake disasters in there! :scared1:

I know what you mean. I spent 2 days doing nothing but reading that site when I found it, and laughing to the point of tears streaming down my face. I'm going to ask for the book for Christmas.

On another note, I just called the Cake Hotline and spoke to Marie at the Contemporary who restored some of my confidence about ordering a cake. She was really friendly and helpful, and when I said that I was hoping that Brian made my cake, she said "Oh, you must read the DisBoards"! How cool is that? I'll be ordering the cake by email this evening and I'll update how communications go as they come in.

I'm glad you got through to someone at the Contemporary. I got through once, inquiring about gluten free and dairy free cakes and Chef Brian, but they told me I had to send an email, since it was a few months away. Which I did. It's been several weeks and no response. I even asked Brenda Bennett about it and she went and forwarded my requests on to them too and I STILL haven't gotten any response. I decided to go with the basic GF / CF cake that WL has because we are staying Club Level and IPO has been very helpful with that. I think it will just be easier, although I was hoping Chef Brian could do a figment cake for my 30th birthday, but it seems more of a hassle than anything.

Hope everything turns out for you....sending you loads of pixie dust!

Our anniversary cake at Jiko. Theme Jack & Sally, unfortunately I had to use a disposable camera and the photos came out terrible! The cake however was a work of art and we couldn't be more pleased. I am so bummed about the camera quality, but I was able to get a decent snapshot of the topper back at our room!

Hmm..I can't figure out how to attach the photos?

None of your pictures are coming through. You might have to upload them to a photo hosting site like Photobucket and then copy the IMG code. I'd love to see them since AKL is probably where I'll be ordering my upcoming cake from. Thanks!

Let me second that! My family is planning a Disney trip around a birthday, and cake options are always interesting.

I tried to oarder a cake today but...

Today at 10:00 a.m. I spoke with a cast member of Epcot, in the custom cake department. My purpose was to order a custom cake featuring Tinkerbell for my 44th birthday dinner I’m having at Akershus’s. The cake was to be ordered from the Grand Bakery for a total of $140.00 dollars which I had no problem with paying. The cake description was a marble cake with custard and strawberries, with butter cream frosting underneath the fondant, white chocolate and purple décor. My family and friends loved the cake and stated I must order it for the party.

When I spoke with the cast member from the custom cake hotline, I explained to her what I was looking for and saw online and she informed me that custom cake are not handled in her department. I advised her that I completely understood but the cake I wanted is done at The Grand Bakery in the Grand Floridian. She informed me to contact the Grand Floridian to order my Tinkerbell cake and once my order was completed go to that location and pick it up and bring it to my own birthday party.

My disagreement is that if I’m paying $140.00 for a custom cake, why can’t Grand Bakery deliver my cake order to my event. It’s not like I’m asking them to deliver off of Disney property, we are eating dinner at Akershus in Epcot. After this upsetting event with the cast member I have decided to have my wife bake me a Duncan Hines cake, it is less trouble and very inexpensive. I really wanted my 44th birthday to special and I feel this has put a damper on my birthday celebration.

That's a bummer that you haven't heard from anyone yet, but Marie at the CR told me to make sure I put the date in the subject of my email because they need to speak to the people with dates coming up before they can speak to me, were you told the same thing? Maybe you should call back and see if you can get confirmation that an order form has been started for your cake?

Thanks for the pixie dust! I hope that you do end up getting your figment cake. I bet Brian would do an awesome job with that theme.

Love that!! Good to see that the AKL is starting to do something other than just zebra cakes. :)

Well, I figured that the time thing might be a factor as we are not going until the end of January. But, the reason I wanted to know so far in advance is because of the dietary restrictions. I'd had to be 2 weeks out and be told I can't get any type of cake at all.

Thanks for the info and words of encouragement!

Can you get a cake at any Disney bakeries if you don't order one? I am leaving tomorrow for DW and will be staying until Tuesday and I want to bring one home. Thanks and I am sorry if this is the wrong thread.

Still need an answer to my earlier post...

Is 6 weeks out too soon to order a cake? Looking to order a custom one from 1900 Park Fare.

You can call, but it might take the bakery a couple weeks to follow up on your order. They like people ordering early; it just seems like they are more responsive between ten and fourteen days prior.

I've already ordered for our trip in Feb - however I'm having IPO deal with the ordering of it for me.

The only cakes they keep on hand are the 6-inch chocolate or vanilla celebration cakes that you can order at the podium of any restaurant, the Main Street Bakery at Magic Kingdom, and probably BoardWalk Bakery at the BoardWalk Inn.

However, they say you can order one up to 48 hours in advance, so it's not too late to call for the latter part of your trip. :thumbsup2

Is there a place that I can go to simply pick up a cake instead of having it delivered to one of my ADRs?

What about the small cakes WDW advertises that are in the pirate chest? Do you know to which I'm referring? There is a girl version, also.

Does this need to be ordered through the cake hotline? Are they available at all TS? (I'm thinking of Sci-Fi). I'm assuming no room for writing, but will they use a candle?

Any major problems with these I should know about? It is only for DS turning 12 and me (I don't really care if I have any or not)

Also, hope I can ask this here, at Swan's Garden Grove it has a number to call for cakes. Anyone w/ experience?

TIA for help :goodvibes

According to the Disney website, those cakes are available "at most Family table service locations". I would think the Sci-Fi fits that description.
