princess tori,

I first called the number for the comtemporary and private dining that has been posted and spoke with marie or sallie, can't remember which, and they intructed me with the direct email to send a message as it was a custom cake. It took 2-3 days to get a response email but said to call the same number back to complete the ressie.

Not sure if i can post the email as i think i have seen on here that they don't approve but the number is 407-824-1000 ext 2955. Hope this helps!

Can you get custom cakes at Crystal Palace?? We had talked about going to CMs with custom cake and decided to go to CP instead. I'm looking for a type of cake with Christmas Mickey and minnie scanned onto the cake with frosting. Can CP do something like that or should I wish and pray to get into CM which is now all booked??

Thanks!!

Very pretty! Happy Anniversary!:goodvibes

Our trip is coming up in about two weeks and I don't know what to do for my daughters birthday. :confused3 We arrive on Oct 11 but her birthday is not until Oct 18. I want to order a special cake to celebrate at our breakfast at Chef Mickey,(on her birthday) but if I order a big one we won't be able to finish it because we leave on the 20th. Should I just pick one up at Boardwalk Bakery and have it in our room or could I take it to Chef Mickey's. If I don't take it to Chef Mickey's will they still give her a cupcake to celebrate? Please help if you can . Thanks

I debated on whether or not to post this because I know that at least one of the cake decorators at the Contemporary is a DIS'er and I don't want to hurt any one's feelings, but...

We had a not so good experience with our 10th Anniversary cake at the Contemporary resort on 9/11/09. I had exchanged a few emails with the cake person at the Contemporary as well as spoke with someone directly on the Cake Hotline there. I was of the understanding that I was getting a 6" cake with the white chocolate castle with some blue/violet hydrangea and white roses on top. I asked for a chocolate cake with a raspberry mousse filling.

When the cake arrived at our table I was very disappointed. It had no chocolate castle on it, but a gold stamp of a generic castle on the side of the cake. The stamp wasn't even of one of the Disney castles! The icing and detail work was sloppy and the flowers were nothing like had been described. Although the cake was pretty, it was still dissapointing to receive something that was nothing like I had ordered.

Also, it was an 8" instead of 6", which cost me more. The chocolate cake tasted like cardboard and the filling was a custard not a mousse. I wasn't going to say anything, but i think our server sensed our dissapointment because the manager appeared at our table and asked if the cake was to our liking. I explained the issues to him and he was very nice and considerate, but said that it was out of his hands because "none of the custom cakes are made on site here at the Contemporary. They are all made at the Grand Floridian and then sent over." :scared1: WHAT! That is one question I specifically asked, if the cake was made on site at the California Grill and I was told yes. I asked when the cake had arrived and he said Wednesday morning. WHAT! (again) That means my cake was frozen for two days before being thawed out on Friday morning to be served Fri. evening. Dissapointing to say the least.
I will post a picture soon.

I know when I ordered by cake from the Contemporary I had to explain a couple of times the I wanted a STANDING image..not one on the surface of the cake. I confirmed and reconfirmed several times. Sounds like your requests were not communicated properly to the chef/decorator.

I wouldn't be suprised if the various bakeries assist on cake orders due to demand and GF would be an obvious choice for the Contemporary. Not sure why you think the cake was frozen for two days? In general (not just Disney), custom cakes are not made day of, they are usually at least started a few days in advance and final details that would not tolerate sitting around for any length of time saved to the end. Typically a fully decorated cake canNOT be frozen as many of the icing/decorating materials will not tolerate being frozen. If mousse is involved your cake would have definitely been refrigerated. Sorry you were disappointed with your cake.

Hi,
We're going the second week of November. How soon should I call to make ressies for the cake? I'd like it for the night we are going to Citricos.
I'd like a piglet cake of some sorts. Perhaps freehand on the top? Or do they just transpose the picture? (that is what it looks like to me on some of the cakes but I do not know the correct term for that.) Can this be done on 6inches or do we ahve to go with 8?
Thanks so much. I actually doing this for myself since it will be my birthday and getting a fun cake sounds special.!!!

Are they good tasting? Any found some to be consistantly tastey? Are some flavors better than others? The only thing I know I want is the custard/strawberries filling.
thanks again,
Liz

Not sure you can get the Winnie the Pooh characters due to licensing/copyright issues. I believe there was a post earlier that someone brought their own Eeyore figurine to put on top since Disney could not do images/figures from WTP.

I was VERY clear in the fact that I wanted the chocolate mold on top of the cake because we even discussed the size of the mold.

I understand having to get help from other locations to fill an exceedingly large amount of orders. However, I SPECIFICALLY asked if my cake would be made on site and was told yes.
I know my cake was frozen for two days because the manage told me as much and toward the center of the slice that we did nibble on it was still frozen. The fondant had cracked from being frozen and then thawed and the dusting that was applied to the flowers was running from where condensation had formed on them during the thaw. Refrigerated I understand, frozen...yuck.

Thanks for the quick answer Camlace.
I really could do with having a pretty cake without characters also. that hopefully tasted good!:)

Thank you for sharing your experience! :) I think it's important to be able to hear the good and the bad in order to make an informed decision. For our next trip, I am debating between ordering a showy cake that will look great in pix on the DIS but (from my past experience with Disney cakes) I know will probably not taste that great or a humble-looking but tasty cake that will actually be good to eat... So this really helps!

I spoke to the chef at AKL about a week and a half ago. He said he would email me some designs. Anyone know how long that should take? Cake is for 10/22.

Anyone ever get a cake from AKL? Care to share your experience?

Thanks

I know this will sound lazy but short on time getting things done and was wondering how hard it is to order a cake... I've been trying to order but i've changed dinner reservations twice b/c the restaurants we chose don't participate in the disney bakery. Does anyone know how hard it is to get a cake at all star music resort that i can take with us to dinner?

Just bumping in case someone can help me!:santa:

I can't remember ever seeing a Christmas-themed cake in this thread, but there are a few snowflake-y ones in the wedding cake thread on the Weddings & Honeymoons board:

It wouldn't hurt to follow up, but they probably won't start thinking about your cake until about two weeks out....

You should be able to buy a pre-made 6-inch cake at the food court:

Otherwise, people have had mixed experiences getting cakes delivered to Value Resorts. Could you pick one up at BoardWalk Bakery?

I'm sorry you ended up disappointed! As much as we pay for these cakes, you'd think they'd really try to get them right and at least make them edible!

Seriously, I am NEVER ordering a custom cake again from Disney. Ever. We should've just gotten some cupcakes from the bakery. Or even a cake from Publix! :rolleyes1

:sad1: sorry about your cake.

I can't complain at all about the decoration of my cake in August, it was gorgeous and I was 100% pleased in that respect.
But, I can relate to the quality of the actual cake itself. Ours was stale and dry. Only edible if you really forced yourself. The mousse was good, though. We had a cake from the Poly a few years ago (same type Chocolate w/ Chocolate mousse) and it was delicious, but much less decorated.

I guessed the elaborate decorating required not having a fresh cake, so I was OK with it. It was so happy with the way the cake looked. Now if I wouldn't have been happy with the appearance of the cake, I can imagine I would have been as disappointed as you were.

I'm not sure if this is okay to ask here but I'm going to give it a shot and if I get moved.....:)

I am now officially turned off on the idea of a "cake" for our anniversary trip. I've hemmed and hawed and the post about the cake at Cali Grill (our location) being so bad and the manager doing essentially nothing was the final straw for me. I adore CG and don't want my experience ruined.

So.....is it possible to reach the mythical "Brian" and ask to have a fabulous "dessert" created, rather than a cake? I know they do all the fancy stuff on the plates and stuff but I want something really *wow* for this time. Thoughts?

Did you still pay for the cake?? I can't believe the manager was aware that you were disappointed with the cake and it was not what your order, but you still had to pay for the cake!

It is completely unacceptable for these cakes to come out less than fresh and not tasting absolutely 100% amazing!! Personal preferreances of fondant vs ganach or mousse filling vs buttercream filling aside, your cake should be fresh and moist! dry and cracked fondant or condensation ruining the decoration on your cake is simply not acceptable!! If Disney can not offer the level of service and detail to these cakes as is necissary, than they need to stop offering them/accepting orders! There is no way i would pay $100 for a cake that tasted like cardboard!

and the elaborate decorating is no excuse for the cake to be stale or frozen! The flowers are made ahead of time, not the cake. You don't need to have the cake sitting next to you for 2 days while you make flowers, castles, dinosaurs, or haunted mansion show pieces! Decorations first, THEN you make the cake!

I hope you have responded to the cake hotline, as well as the oerson you were emailing with at the CR to express your displeasure at the cake. Judging by the past cakes we have seen, the CR CAN make beautiful cakes. Someone seriously mixed up your order and you need to be compensated for it! If you did pay for the cake, you need your money refunded!
